It was a few short days before the Ball, Some were loathing it, but some like Jo was, was rather Looking forward to it. She was going with her Best friend and what Jo maybe thought was A crush, Riley Arcite. Jo was slouching, almost laying over her history books, looking through the family tree's looking for a hint that she might be connected to them.
Through her side vision, she saw an entrance of something pink and alongside it something dark brown. Jo raised her Head and Saw Ashlyn Winters, A girl she had met in the Rehearsal rooms who she had recognized from the Leaky cauldron, She sported a dashing array of pink hair and black clothing. Walking alongside a tall figure, she didn't recognize the girl, but if she was along with Ashlyn, there was no way that she would be mean in any way shape or form.
Jo was getting a bit Lonely so she decided to wave down the two. As she waved at them from the Slytherin table, she one hand made space for them, she had taken up almost 5 seats on the table with all the books open and laid out. It was kind of embarrassing but considering no Slytherin sat at that end of the table for reasons unknown even before Jo came to Hogwarts, it was fine. They were allowed to sit anywhere they liked, as long as it wasn't during a feast, so maybe they won't mind?
I mean sitting alone at a table when Riley wasn't around Was not the thing Jo liked to do at all.

'UGHHHH', Ashlyn thought as she walked down the hallway with Kira. There were only so many days left until the Fall Ball, and she still had no date. She was planning to go with Jax, but some issues came up at home, and he had to leave. 'Why is it that all of the cute guys are gay?', she asked herself. So far, she hadn't particularly met anyone in which she wanted to go to the ball with, outside of maybe a few friends, but it seemed that the people that she had previously wanted to go with either already had a date or they were, well, to say the least, uninterested. As she thought of this particularly agonizing topic, she noticed her seemingly good friend Jo waving for her and Kira to walk over to her and another...girl? That easily surprised Ashlyn, as she would've never, not in a million years, expected Jo to be the social type. She then remembered Jo telling her about a girl- no, Riley. Of course! How could she forget? Jo had been obviously crushing on this girl for a very long time now. She had even asked Riley to the dance. Oh, the dance..... A thought then popped into Ashlyn's head, actually, two thoughts did. She remembered how Jo would tease her for constantly talking about Kira in a "crushie-crush" way, as Jo had called it. The other thought was simply a question, a question that she would ask Kira before heading over to Jo and Riley. " Hey Kira? Would you mind going to the ball with me?", she said rather shyly as she turned to face the girl.

Kira was walking alongside Ashlyn as they made their way through the hall. The fall dance was coming up and a lot of people were running around trying to find dates or asking out their crushes, but so far Kira hadn't come across anyone she really wanted to go to the dance with. Thinking about it, Kira guessed that it would be nice to go with someone but realistically, she was hoping that she could go with a group of friends and just have a fun time.
When she looked ahead she noticed a girl with dyed red hair siting at a table surrounded by books. Kira furrowed her brows slightly in confusion, the girl seemed to be waving at her and Ashlyn, but Kira didn't recognize her. She was about to ask Ashlyn if she knew this girl, but just as she was about to speak, Ashlyn asked a question of her own, "Hey Kira? Would you mind going to the ball with me?"
The question caught Kira off guard, and she didn't quite know how to respond, so She took a second to think the question over. Ashlyn was a good friend and they got along really well, and Kira also knew that if the two of them went to the ball together, it would definitely be fun. After sorting through her thoughts, the decision wasn't a difficult one to come to. "Um, not at all. That sounds like fun!" she replied with a smile. When she looked ahead again, she caught sight of the same girl with red hair that she noticed before, and she was reminded of the question she had meant to ask earlier. "Oh! By the way, I think there's a girl waving towards us. Is she a friend of yours?"

"Oh! You mean Jo? Yea, she's a good friend of mine.... hey- it looks like she's waving us over... come on, you'll love her!", she said before grabbing Kira's hand and leading her over to the table across the room. As they walked, Ashlyn noticed a few people staring. Well- she had spoken a bit loudly.... then she realized why they were staring. She had just asked Kira to the dance. In front of them. And then proceeded to hold her hand. Also in front of them.... 'Stupid homophobic bastards-', she thought to herself before her cheeks slowly grew bright red. She felt the heat as it rose on her cheeks. Afterwards, she decided to look down, as an obvious look of shyness and slight embarrassment spread along her face, and those emotions were soon followed by some mixture of sadness and anger. If only people were more accepting. That was the thing that she hated most about society. They could never accept anyone that was different from them. People were always so quick to judge.... so quick, in fact, that they hardly ever stopped to think about someone else's feelings. As she thought of this, anyone within a short distance of her would be able to see small tears start to form in her eyes.interacting with @Kira Rosenburg @Josette Rutledge mentioning @Riley Arcite

Ashlyn grabbed her hand with excitement and the two girls began to make their way over to the table when something caught Ashlyn’s attention and drastically changed her mood. Her stride slowed down a bit and she seemed to have lost the confidence she had just a moment ago as a mix of sadness and anger crossed her face. Kira was quickly scanning the room, trying to pinpoint what had upset Ashlyn when she noticed that some people were staring at the two of them with judgment in their gazes. Putting two and two together, Kira realized these people probably weren’t the most open to the idea of two girls going to the dance together, and that Ashlyn had noticed this too. Turning her attention back to Ashlyn, she noticed that tears were starting to form in her friend’s eyes. Kira’s mouth pursed in frustration at the situation and decided the best course of action would be to just get to the table quickly. “Come on, Jo’s waiting for us,” she said softly, giving Ashlyn’s hand a comforting squeeze as she pulled her towards the table Jo was seated at. Kira kept her head up and walked with purpose. To anyone looking on, it would seem that the situation hadn’t fazed her, but as they walked, the distance to the table seemed a lot farther than it did before.
