Homesick
It had been a night of overwhelming emotion for Aurora, most of which she just couldn't contain inside her. She had been lying in her bed, but with her thoughts racing one another throughout her mind, she was in desperate need for some fresh air. She escaped the confined feeling of her dormitory and followed the pathway of the darkened halls towards the owlery. With a piece of fresh parchment in one hand and a quill in the other, she gripped them both tightly as the wind pushed against her. She wanted to write a letter to her grandmother, the only person who she felt comfortable opening herself up to about the pressures and struggles she faced inside the bricked walls of Hogwarts.
Once she reached the owlery, she was welcomed by the comforting feeling of the owls flying around her, swaying above her head, wandering in and out of the open space. Taking in the scenery, she sat down and began to write almost immediately. The words spilled onto the paper, her hand aching with every word she wrote as she pressed hard with emotion onto the parchment. While she was grateful for her life at Hogwarts, she still missed her family back home. She missed her little brother, who loved to run around the local market, pointing in awe of every colorful object he saw. She missed her father, who would sit and read his muggle newspaper early in the morning, waiting for the rest of the family to wake up so he could inform them on the new happenings of the Muggle World. She missed her grandmother, who would brush and braid Aurora's hair whenever she was upset, because she knew it made her problems feel so much smaller. She missed her older brother, and while he was at Hogwarts with her, she still didn't see him all that often, and as she sat writing her letter, she reminisced the memories of them talking endlessly for hours about every topic they could possibly think of. Once the entire piece of parchment was covered with ink, Aurora stood back up, feeling lightened now that she had poured her emotions onto something solid.
