If You Give a Girl a Baking Errand

August 16, 2020𝓐madea was enjoying her summer; it was nice to finally be back home in Camberley and be able to enjoy spending time with her family. She had missed them and it was sad that she only was able to see them for a few months of the year; that was the sacrifice she had to make because she attended Hogwarts and many of the summer activities held at the school. As much as her family missed her and she missed them, both parties knew how important it was that Amadea participate in her schooling and receive a good education. That being said, she still missed the castle when she was away from it. Balancing her homesickness for being back at Hogwarts and missing all of her friends with the giddiness she felt to be catching up with her sister and family was something she was trying to master, and unfortunately, it wasn't going so well for her.
Amadea walked down the stairs and entered the kitchen. Sitting on the counter was an owl who was not Nova. Amadea stood in confusion for a second before walking over to the owl and opening the note attached to it. The note came from the new Keeper of Keys and Grounds, Gargott Dunaid. While Amadea had never interacted with the staff member before, she was excited to receive this letter. It seemed like he was looking for some sort of baked good to eat and Amadea was definitely going to bake something amazing.
While she loved eating baked goods, baking actual desserts was something that Amadea didn't do often. It wasn't like she was bad at baking, but her sweet treats would never get that "wow factor" that some gifted bakers had. Something she could do, though, was decorate her dessert. When Amadea was younger, she and her sister had taken a baking class where they learned how to decorate cakes and cupcakes. Ever since, Amadea had loved adding the special touches to baked goods. As she read the note once more, she decided she was going to bake cupcakes. Because Professor Dunaid was the Keeper of Keys, Amadea thumbed through her recipe book until she found a recipe for key lime cupcakes with vanilla buttercream. Her stomach rumbled as she looked at the recipe; baking these was going to be a blast!
Amadea gathered all of the supplies she would need, including the new stand mixer that her mother had bought on sale only a few weeks prior. It would definitely be helpful in mixing together all of the ingredients. As Amadea leveled out the flour and sugar, she hummed to herself. Putting everything in the mixer, she checked the recipe one more time to make sure she had included everything she needed; this was reminding her a lot of Potions. She had to meticulously make sure she measured the correct amount of each ingredient and follow the instructions word for word, except with this, she would end up with a delicious treat at the end. With Potions, she usually just ended up with a boiling liquid that did not look appetizing at all.
Once she had put the cupcakes into the oven to bake, Amadea began on the frosting. At this point, her sister had come into the kitchen, hearing the clanking. "Hi Kat," Amadea said, barely glancing up as she measured out the cream to whip up some delicious frosting. "I'm making cupcakes." The older girl walked up behind Amadea and reached her finger into the bowl, tasting the frosting. Amadea swatted Kat's hand away. "No eating! This is for one of the staff members at school," she explained.
"Okay, okay, fine," Kat sighed. "Let me know when they're done, though. I want to try one." Amadea nodded and gestured for her sister to leave the kitchen so she could focus. Amadea took the cupcakes out of the oven and put them on the counter to cool. In the meantime, she prepared the owl to send back to Professor Dunaid. She scrawled a quick note that read: Professor Dunaid, I hope you enjoy these key lime cupcakes! Baking these was a blast and it reminded me how much I love to bake sweet treats; I hope you enjoyed the toppings! -Amadea Campbell
Once her note was finished, Amadea checked the cupcakes and figured they were cool enough to put the decorations on. She quickly piped some frosting onto the top of them and started working on decorating. She wanted to do a forest theme with these decorations, sticking to the fact that Professor Dunaid was the Keeper of Keys and Ground. She piped some green leaves onto one of the cupcakes to make it look like a tree and on another, she took some food coloring so she could make the cupcake look like a mushroom. After thirty more minutes of careful decoration, all of the cupcakes had been decorated. Amadea looked back and surveyed her work; she was proud of what she had accomplished. Deciding that she would send the mushroom and the tree cupcake as they were the best executed, she carefully packaged them up and put the note on top. Then she secured the cupcakes to the owl and patted it before it took off and flew away back to Hogwarts.
This had been so fun, Amadea thought to herself. Taking one of the extra cupcakes she bit into it, letting the flavors dance over her tongue. While it wasn't the most amazing cupcake she had ever tasted, for not baking in a while, Amadea thought she did pretty well. She might be biased, but she would give herself an O for these cupcakes!Reducio
