The Next Chapter
The Platform of 9 3/4 was a bustling mess of exuberant children, obnoxious teenagers, and parents who were somewhere between proud and frustrated. I wish now that I had tried harder to convince my parents to see me off, yet I doubt they would have been able to stay. They were both busy people and understood that I could get myself to the train without problems, merely needed to drop me off in London. Seeing the many different faces of family members saying their goodbyes made me wish my own were here. Alas, I have no power to change what has already come to pass plus, such thoughts are not good when starting a new chapter of your story no matter how you wish it was different. With that final thought, I turn away from the commotion of the Hogwarts school body toward the Hogwarts express. My backpack bounced against my lower back while my truck wheeled behind me with little problems as I made my way to the train. It was an impressive work of machinery for a train as old as it is said to be, although I am not very fond of trains and doubt I will enjoy this ride very much.
Hurriedly, I make my way to the train entrance, handing over my ticket, and make my way up the stairs with my trunk thunking behind me. It takes me a minute to find an empty compartment, not wanting to deal with another person so soon. Once I stumbled upon one, I set my backpack on the left seat and stuff my trunk over it. Next, I close the curtains of the window as the sight of the world around me moving has been known to make me motion sickness. I sit myself down, making myself comfortable as I open my bag to take out several of my notebooks and quills. Writing things down has always been a hobby; planning, making lists, poems, short stories, song lyrics, or stories are my preferred writings. I start off by finishing the poem I had started last night, hopefully, spending my time on these will make the trip to Hogwarts go by swiftly.

Septima initially sat in her lonely compartment. She could hear the occasional shout followed by running. Sometimes other students would sprint by the open door, some would wave but most were too busy roughhousing. At some point the students who passed by had on their robes and hats. A few waving around their wands as they produced sounds that they thought sounded like magic. One time two first years ran by with makeshift brooms pretending to be famous Quidditch players. This produced a giggle from Septima.
The buzzing halls only fueled Septima's excitement. So she hopped off her seat, pulled her robes swiftly from her trunk and slipped them on. She then stepped into the hallway just to dodge a group of boys chasing each other. Septima wandered down the hallway, peeking into other compartments which most ignored. At one point she was forced to wait for a group of older students to purchase hordes of sweets from a trolley. It was stuffed to the brink with candy, an older woman pushing it down the hall. Soon Septima wasn't the only one following the slow trolley. Tons of first years had taken notice and packed themselves behind Septima all begging for candy. The older lady was quite fast as she repeatedly swatted away greedy hands. The first years only packed around tighter. It was the last place Septima wanted to be, she simply wished to look around the train. She quickly entered the first compartment she could reach, making sure to close the door behind her. She released a tensed sigh as she slumped into the seat. Only then did she notice that she was not alone. On the adjacent seat next to the window sat another first year, or Septima assumed a first year. The curtains were shut creating an extremely dark and even creepy atmosphere. The first year sat with a notebook and pen in hand. Septima felt like she was back at the Ministry of Magic after the incident with her mother. She remember how nervous her father was then. That's how she felt now looking at the shadow in the corner. Maybe she should say something...her father always said, "Be brave enough to start a conversation, it might matter greatly in the long run." Septima smiled softly, attempting to make it warm and welcoming. "Well hello! Do you mind if I sit here?" Septima spoke while keeping her voice steady and inviting.

There was another person in my compartment. A young lass with dark hair that must get in the way frequently, mine certainly did when I allowed it down and it did not curl like hers. Her eyes spoke of surprise, evidently, she expected this compartment to be empty, with the amount of noise in the hall, I could imagine why she would assume such. She already donned the school robes, no insignia for their house, likely a first year then. I had not donned my own school robes yet, rather I was wearing a white button-up long sleeve shirt with a grey tie, black skirt, and black vest over top.
Although, I probably need to slip my robes on soon. We had left the station quite some time ago and should be arriving shortly. The best course of action is to send her back to her own compartment. If I was not feeling so out of my element, I would have at least had a small discussion for the next few minutes of our trip with her. However, I have never been surrounded by so many people, having them run by my door constantly have left me feeling like I have a constant itch underneath my skin.
I will look for her again as she obviously was willing to try to be friendly toward me, possibly a good potential ally t add to my empty hand. I try to smile back, but in all honesty, with the ambiance as it is, I probably look quite sinister. Especially since my smile tends to give me a more mischievous look rather than a friendly one. Something I probably picked up from my dad.

"Unfortunately Lass, you may need tae go back tae yer ain compartment," I stand up from my seat, turning around to swiftly hide my notebooks and quills within my backpack. "We should be arriving at Hogsmeade Station shortly."
I do not turn back around, rather I reach for my trunk to take out my robe. Hopefully, she will get the message and scurry back to her own compartment.

Although Septima invited conversation, she was surprised to receive a response. The first year had a heavy Scottish accent much like Septima's father. The first year's smile seemed to be friendly despite the dramatic shading but she was quick to turn her back on Septima, her blonde pigtails flicking aggressively in the air. The notebooks were tucked away and a trunk was pulled out from under the seat. Septima felt it was time to leave.
"Well..." Septima began, her fingers fidgeting together, "it seems to have quieted down a bit in the hall, so I will be on my way." She watched the first year pull out her robes before turning to face the door. Septima opened the door slightly, peaking her head out in search of any traffic. When she was certain it was clear she stepped out of the compartment and closed the door.
Septima made her way back down the corridor, her gaze glued to the dark world outside the windows. She wondered what kind of place Hogwarts would be. So far her impression of the student body is varied. On one side she spent most of the ride observing rambunctious hordes of students. On the other side she met a calm, albeit odd, individual. It made her nervous on how the staff might act considering the majority of the students seem to be so unruly. Upon returning to her compartment she plopped onto an empty seat, leaving her door open again. She was getting rather tired after so much activity. She was still expecting a sorting ceremony and more. A soft groan escaped her lips even though she felt excited. This was going to be interesting.
