Lydea Wayland | First Year | Gryffindor

Full Name: Lydea Marie Wayland
House: Gryffindor
Age: 11 (Birthday: April 17th)
School Year: 1st
Patronus: ---
Species: Human
History: Dea grew up in Killarney, Ireland (so yes, she's Irish), which is a pretty small town considering the population is under fifteen thousand. Her da's (Ian Wayland) from Wiltshire, England, but he moved to Australia when he was ten. He met her mother (Joslyn) while she was on holiday there, so he moved to Killarney with her and now he builds boats (really nice ones at that) for a living. He's some sort of architect, but Dea doesn't quite know what type. Joslyn runs a shop where she makes and sells clothes. She always wanted to be a designer, but never had the money to move anywhere else.
As a muggle-born, Lydea's parents obviously never expected to have a magical daughter. So when she started having accidental magic incidents at the age of seven (involving some serious bouts of flames bursting from her ears), they didn't quite know what to think. They're honestly a little...freaked out by the whole thing, but don't tell their daughter that. When someone in robes and a pointed hat shows up on your doorstep, telling you your young daughter is actually a witch, you're bound to be doubtful. Lydea herself had opened the door (which her parents had told her not to do with strangers multiple times) and Joslyn had nearly had fit over the whole thing. Ian had stayed stoically silent, trying to figure out if this whole "magic being real" thing was actually just some large, practical joke.
It just doesn't seem natural to them, and Joslyn would much prefer that Lydea receive a normal education. They hope that eventually, she'll see through the bright lights and sparks of the first impression, and choose to go to muggle university.
Lydea grew up with a pretty normal, happy childhood until her magic ended up leaking through with her emotions. At nine, she got in a schoolyard fight with a boy who insulted her hair and bullied her often. Eventually, she lost her patience and slapped him. Except, the slap had some literal heat to it, and left the boy with a burn in the shape of a handprint for several weeks.
In muggle schooling, Lydea didn't really make many friends. She was considered too loud, too rambunctious, too bold. She was laughed at for speaking out of turn, for always making her points known. Mostly, she hung around her cousins, one of whom even went to her school. Andrea, her cousin that was the same age as her, was really the only one who stayed around to keep her from doing anything stupid.
Lydea is the kind of person who is always ready for something new. She craves freedom, and adventure, and exhilaration. She's always chasing some adrenaline high, and her curiosity can land her in places and situations she never expected to be in. She's bright, and loud, and quick to fight. She takes her loyalty seriously, and isn't afraid to step up to a challenge (though she's never been known to back down either, sometimes to her detriment). Lydea has a sweet tooth and sharp tongue, and her head might be a little big but she means well. She values her honesty and loyalty as two of her greatest traits--she's brave enough to be blunt and fiercely protective. She stands her ground, and an attack against her friends is a direct attack against her. Her emotions and impulsivity can cause her to say or do things she doesn't mean, and she's too stubborn to apologize right away (or even to be the first to apologize).
Lydea is a fiery thing. And no matter how someone might try, her flames can't be stamped out.
Appearance: Lydea stands at a measly 4'8, and is shaped like a twig. Her hair, a rusty red, hangs over her shoulders in a long bob style, and her face is framed by slight curtain bangs. Her large, almond-shaped eyes are the color of a dark, reddy whiskey, and are almost always sparking with mischief. Her skin is pale, and covered in freckles from time spent in the sun, with a healthy splattering across her nose. She's an odd beauty, with a delicate, pixieish facial structure. With a button nose and sharp angles and a permanent smirk, "trouble" seems to be stamped on her forehead. She has a noticeable scar above her left eyebrow that stretches up toward her hairline, though it is hidden by her hair.
