☆ Boarding The Train ☆

Earl got onto the train, breathing hard, a bruise forming on his stomach from a little...ahem incident, earlier. He'd handed the ticket to someone, didn't remember who, and was walking around the train, dragging the heavy trunk behind him, fingers having turned white from the effort of hanging on to the trunk. His normally perfect cotton candy pink hair was in disarray, and despite trying his very hardest to shake the dust out of his clothes, white jeans and falling on your butt didn't work very well together.

Serves him right for running into the wrong wall.

Most of the compartments were empty (he'd arrived way too early) people just starting to claim them as their own and settle down for the long ride ahead. Slipping into a cabin near the doors of the train, the young boy pulled out a hand mirror from the pocket of his gray jean jacket, and set his wand behind his ear, where the whitish tip could be seen peaking out from between a combination of spiky and curly locks. After making sure there was nothing on his bum from the little fall earlier, and managing to get rid of the remaining dust in his clothes, he sat down and folded his knees underneath himself, digging through the trunk he'd shoved underneath the bench to pull out his Cassandra Clare book.

She was his favorite author, but having her book in his hands was doing nothing to calm the combination of excitement and anxiety currently brewing in his stomach. The words kept blurring over, his thumb tapping on the page of the book to calm the overwhelming energy. No. He couldn't do it. Setting his bookmark carefully between the pages of the book, he started pacing inside the compartment, eyes flitting over to the door hopefully, praying for someone to show up and talk to him. The thought of having to brave a seven hour train ride by himself was honestly terrifying.

So what did Earl do?

Well he went outside the compartment, leaving the glass door open and leaning against the nearby wall. "Hey!" he said, waving at the next person who walked in the train. "Wanna sit with me?"

Lana winced as her mother kissed her on the cheek, her eyes darting towards the concrete floor. As much as she was aware they loved her, she knew her parents only cared about her excelling in school, not to just 'enjoy' her second year.
Her summer was just as bleak as always, perhaps more miserable than the last. Her parents had become more strict on what she was allowed to do, therefore practically brain-washing her into what they thought was best.

She glanced at her father, giving him somewhat of a smile. She couldn't help but love them, even if their way of showing it was questionable. She thought of her brother, completely disowned from them. She wondered if that could happen to her, especially considering she was a Ravenclaw rather than Slytherin like the rest of the family. It frightened her, to think that they could completely get rid of her had she disobeyed.

As the whistle blew, she waved goodbye to them quickly and ran onto the train; her trunk clunking up the stairs as she went. As she searched frantically for an open compartment, her eyes met another, their expression particularly inviting. They waved to her, or at least so she thought.
The boy had asked if she'd be interested in sitting with him, causing her to nod in response. She'd hoped she didn't seem too eager, trying to maintain her somewhat intimidating presence.

"Lana Monet, Ravenclaw." She said formally, holding out her hand indicating a hand shake was in place.

Here would be a good time to mention Earl had no concept of personal space. So rather than shaking her hand, he went in for a bear hug, taking a few seconds to release her. "Hiii" he squealed, helping her drag her trunk inside the compartment, his fingers wrapping around her wrist and tugging her inside gently. "You look so serious, what's wrong?" he asked with a brilliant grin. And when Earl smiled, it seemed like the entire room lit up, the joy he was practically vibrating having an infectious effect.

He floated over to a bench on one side of the train car, folding his knees underneath himself, careful not to get the bench, nor his pristine white pants dirty, before looking back up at her, joy dancing in his gray eyes. "SO!" he exclaimed, leaning forward onto the bench, hands gripping the edge of his seat. "Are you excited? I'm excited. Like my dad doesn't really like magic, so when we got the owl he got SO mad that I'd be going to Hogwarts, but I'm here anyway, like thank GOD. What's your wand like? Did you get it from the old man in that wand store? Your parents seem nice! My dad kinda dropped me off and left, and I ended up running into the wrong wall, so now there's a dent in my suitcase, and my mom said she'd show up but then she didn't, and now I'm on a train with you! How cool is that? Do you think anyone else will join us? That would be SO cool."

Yep. It was safe to say being in the same compartment as this guy was bound to get exhausting. "I talk a lot," he admitted with a meek smile. "I'm sorry, I don't get to talk about magic a lot. Jeeze, I didn't even introduce myself. Hi, I'm Earl. You have SUCH a pretty name!!!!

Her eyes widened when she was embraced with a hug, not entirely sure what to do. She'd practically never been hugged before, as her parents found it to be an over-exaggerated form of affection. It was sad, yes, though it worked for them she supposed.
She chose to awkwardly keep her arms at her side, slowly raising them to hug the boy in return.

As she was forced into the compartment, she flinched as he grasped her wrist tightly. It reminded her too much of when she was dragged downstairs for dinner in the Monet Manor, though she chose not to speak on it. Instead she ripped her hand away, crossing her legs as she sat down.

The boy began to ramble leaving Lana perplexed as to how someone could speak so much. She tried to grasp the key points of what he was saying, though it all flew past her before she could register anything. Eventually she gave up and began to nod, trying the best she could to make it seem like she was intrigued.

Once he died down a bit, she laughed at his confession of rambling. She found herself taking a liking to this boy, unsure as to why or how. Lana practically seemed to hate everyone she encountered, so him out of all people she found endearing was a little disorienting.
Nonetheless, she pulled out her wand for him to look at figuring he'd find it somewhat interesting considering how fascinated he was with magic.
"I assume you're a first year, yeah?"

The boy beamed as he felt her return the hug, if somewhat awkwardly. Her slight wince didn't go unnoticed, and he made a mental note not to drag her places anymore. "Oh yeah," Earl grinned, tucking a strand of pink hair behind one ear. "Honestly I can't wait to see which house I get sorted into!!!" He was hoping Hufflepuff, and was somewhat scared of going into Griffindor. Those guys were rough, and he didn't think they'd get along well. "Anyway, anyway, hi! What's Hogwarts like? Are the teachers nice? My dad refused to talk about it, so I literally have no idea about anything"

A few minutes passed, the boy keeping up his fast, confusing way of speaking. Within one minute, he'd complained about how dull the robes looked, complimented her wand, told her his entire life story, and managed to rant about baking. No matter what happened, he seemed to have an endless supply of chatter. That was, until he'd stopped mid sentence, studying her with a smile. "How about you????" he demanded. "I've been talking for a while, sheesh. Your turn!!! Sorry, I know it's exhausting. My dad actually bought a pair of headphones because he couldn't get me to shut up. And I'm rambling again. Nope. Your turn. Tell me about yourself!" He made a locking motion above his lips, and mimed throwing away the key with a goofy smile, eyes shining with a strange joy you didn't see in a lot of people anymore.

Earl had the air of someone who'd manage to find something good in any situation, and it showed.
