A Second Chance
Xeno was lost in his thoughts as he sat by the side of the Great Lake. Mist hung low over the glassy water, shifting like silk across the perfect mirror of the lake. Despite it being spring, the afternoon breeze was chilling, the hairs on Xeno's arms standing on end. He was carefully wrapping fresh bandages around his hands, covering the grooves he had carved there with his nails. His eyes reflected the lake; fogged over by thoughts, getting darker the deeper you went. Otwardly, he was calm. Relaxed, even. In his mind, it was carnage.
Doubts battled for front seat in his thoughts, baying like dogs for his attention. Above the doubts, a swirling cacophony of fear moved like ghosts, brushing up against his consciousness, lurking just beneath the surface of his calm facade.
He was a wreck. His imagination was wreaking havoc on his mind, bombarding him with a million impossible questions. It took all his energy just to keep from falling off the edge of panic.
He couldn't let it show. It was like the world was burning around him, flames licking at his heels, blood boiling in his veins - and he didn't make a sound.
He tore himself away from his thoughts. He needed to focus on something else. The water was lapping gently against the edge of the shore, a rhythmic pattern, the only place the body of water was moving. The trees towering above him rustled softly, the ancient structures moved by a simple breeze. Xeno took a deep breath. He was oddly at peace now. If only the thoughts crowding his head would stop screaming at him, he could probably fall asleep here.

A Second Chance
Eri had been out on a walk to get away from the castle. She felt some how that she was trapped. Like she only had a certain place to go. Maybe that makes sense but the outside was the only place able to calm herself down.
The brunette didn't expect to do anything except read. It was very peaceful and the perfect time of day to read. The sun was shining, it was a bit cold for it being spring. Anyways she continued the peaceful walk to the great lake.
She spotted someone familiar. Xeno, she needed to talk to him and explain what had happened to him. He probably hated her now for being dumb or cowardly but she still thought of him as her friend. Why was Eri so hopeful. Her mind told her that he would tell her to leave if she went and talked to him but she did it any ways.
The Ravenclaw girl tapped Xeno on the shoulder. "Xeno, Can we talk? I have some things I need to explain." She sounded worn and tired. Probably since she just got over from loosing so much blood. She hoped he would not turn her explanation away.

Xeno jumped, the momentary calmness of his mind shattered like a splash on the lake, droplets of thought propelled away as he imploded. He looked up, and saw that it was Eri who had tapped him. A second wave of panic cascaded through his mind, a perfect skimming stone, ricocheting off the water only to touch back down, sinking to the bottom.
"Xeno, Can we talk? I have some things I need to explain." It took a moment for her words to register in his mind, torn up as it was. When they finally did, he opened his mouth without thinking, words rushing like his thoughts, hurtling fourth, never once asking his permission.
"U-Um, sure, but t-there's something I need to say first. " Licking his lips nervously, he didn't dare pause, didn't dare take a breath, knowing he'd clam up if he did. "I'm really sorry about the mess I caused at the Ravenclaw table, I know you probably hate me n-"
He cut himself off, alarmed at how much he'd just said. He hadn't meant to say that. She would have him even more now, for sure. He looked away, ashamed at himself. He was a Slytherin. He was meant to be cunning, not just speak without a moment's thought, show his weaknesses to any that cared to see, wear his heart in his sleeve for anyone to stab as they pleased. He must seem really pathetic now. He was going to end up alone here, just like back in Glasgow, at the Muggle school.
His thoughts gathered, focusing on those memories, once again forming into something darker, feeding on his insecurities and doubts, becoming nightmarish, all-consuming, tearing into him like a starving wolf, yellow eyes glaring savagely, willing him to run, to fight, just so it could have the pleasure of hunting him down and destroying every glimmer of hope still left in his heart. Breaking him, leaving him lying lifeless, no tears left to cry in his cold, dead eyes.

She sighed and shook her head. "Xeno I don't hate you. I thought we were still friends. I-I just came to sat I messed up and said the wrong spell. Now most of my friends hate me. It wasn't your fault it was my own lack of knowledge. I shouldn't Even be a Ravenclaw anyways" She said that last part to herself. She didn't deserve to be in the house of knowledge. It was a curse now, something that would haunt her for a while. She forced a smile onto her face. Would she always live with regret? Maybe it would go away.
She hoped Xeno understood it was her fault. "If you didn't come to the table. I'm still sure all of that would have happened." That was a truth to her. She just hoped she could apologize to everyone who wittnessed it. It was hard for her to go back to normal. Until she absolutely knew she was forgiven. She hoped Xeno forgave her for running away from the great hall without explanation. That day would forever leave a mark. She never goes to the great hall to eat. The house elves let her get food to go so she can eat somewhere besides the great hall.

"You don't?" Xeno could feel his heart leap with hope, refusing to be crushed by his sombre thoughts. He listened to the rest of what Eri had to say, and felt it drop back down to the pit of his stomach. He felt tears in his eyes, but this time, they weren't selfish tears for his own suffering, but rather, he was crying for Eri. Despite his own dark thoughts, he couldn't believe that she could feel those same things about herself.
"Eri... Listen. If anyone deserves to be kicked out of their house, it's me. I acted downright Gryffindor back then, I..." He bit his lip, trying to find the right words. He couldn't. They refused to form sentences in his mind, refused to come out of his mouth. He reached forwards and hugged Eri instead. He body shook, the weight from all that had happened finally letting off, leaving him feeling light headed. After a few seconds, he let go.
"I'm probably going to pretend this never happened, you know. I'll tell myself it's just self preservation, but in reality, it's cowardice. I'll probably even go and sit at another houses table again, just to show that I'm not phased by what happened, and all the while I'll be terrified. I'm not even going to face what happened in my own mind. I'm just going to push it down, repress it." He felt guilty as he spoke, knowing that his words were true. Anxiety curled in his gut, a bitter sickness gathering in his throat.
