Itsy Bitsy Spooder
She was never one for fluffy monstrosities. She did not trust them, their beady, hungry little eyes and their dangerous intentions hidden beneath a seemingly affable facade. So, what brought her to this little pet shop on Diagon Alley?
In truth, she was hiding from death witches. She was certain she saw one. They had tells now, in their faces. Particularly their eyes. The false smile. A wolf in labs clothes. They were everywhere, infiltrating society as a whole, leaving her to ponder if it was the chicken or the egg -- had the death witches trickled in from the fringes of society or was it an overflow?
She would press herself against the wall of the shop, out of view of the door and allow the death witches to walk on by as if it was the night of passover. Once gone, she would realize the terrible truth, she was better off with the death witches. Well, crap. She frowned as she looked around with her eyes and searched behind her with her hands for the door. Never turn your back on them, that is when they strike.
"Can I help you?"
"No."
"I am sure I can."
"Nope, just avoiding the death witches."
A soft chuckle, children and their silly games. "No death witches here," an assurance that rang hollow but he did not have their eyes -- the death witch eyes.
She did not give him the benefit of agreement. She wordlessly looked at the animals, an awkward silence between them before she shattered the quiet with nonsense. "I don't trust fluffy things," she proclaimed. "Too much fluff," she concluded. It was a conversation she was having out loud with herself. She just felt naturally agitated by the sweet nature of the pygmy puffs.
"Then how about the not furry?"
The obvious answer, find something hairless. She would not be taken like Galton was and spend her weeks shaving her... [redacted]. He did not try to sell her a hairless sphynx, rather a lizard. Taking what resembled a mini dragon from a terrarium, Erin's eyes widened. This was something that looked trustworthy.
"Does it bite?"
"No."
"Oh." Well, that was disappointing. Her curiosity piqued, she forgot to escape and she would approach the various animals in the 'non-furry'part of the shop. Toads, also not furry but seemingly bland. Lizards, like little dragons. Then she would see it. The many-legged friend she would make. He was perfect. She would press her face against the glass and watch a large arachnid pounce upon a cricket and devour it whole. "...w-oah," she uttered, her jaw left agape. "I-I want that," she pointed at the spider. Her newest bestest friend.
