Trying to bake
Date: August 16th, 2020
Time: noon
Place: Liverpool, England
Even after six days as passed, Henry still felt worried and weird about his newfound hidden family and life. The twelve year old just wanted to be alone most day to his thoughts which wasn't that hard to do since his father was away on business and his twin sister was out somewhere in Liverpool chasing chaos like usual so the boy almost had the whole house to himself, like I said almost. As his older brother; Arthur was still there and he was in no means going to let his younger brother spend the rest of his summer holiday locked in his room dwelling on their father's family but luckily a letter came that would change that soon.
A knock, a knock on Henry's room door and that how it started as he heard his brother's voice speak from behind the door " Merlin, I got a letter for you it's from Hogwarts," even through her was curious the twelve year old merely laid on his bed as he groaned " who cares," clearly his brother wasn't about to give up as Henry heard him use the unlocking spell on his door before letting himself in. Henry barely opened one eye as he groaned " go away, don't you know a locked door means go away," Arthur seemed to laugh a little as he spoke " and don't you know Henry that I'm 19 and already of age, meaning that I can use magic and a lock door is just a lock door to me."
Henry reach under his head and tossed his pillow at his brother who dodged it as Henry said " just leave me be at least Art," Arthur laughed as he walked over to Henry bed and sat down before ruffling up his brother's hair and stomach before holding the letter out for him, " here, I know your curious just go on and read it already," Henry looked at his brother for a few minutes before he propped himself up and leaned on his headboard of his bed before taking the letter and opening it. Henry slowly read the letter and laughed a bit when he finished it before handing it to Arthur to read as he spoke " the keeper of the keys and grounds at Hogwarts wants students to send him bake goods for a baking competition, but why would he send me one? I mean I never baked anything before."
Arthur pulled his brother's arms to him as he wrapped his arm around Henry's shoulders, and Henry crawled to the edge of his bed as he leaned into Arthur and listened to his brother speak " maybe he just wants you students to do something over the summer and not just sleep," Henry merely just rolled his eyes before saying " I was thinking and I don't know the first thing to baking so how I'm I suppose to do this?" Arthur still holding the letter got up from Henry's bed as he spoke " I'll teach you and help you, come on Merlin it will be fun," as Arthur exited Henry's room and started to walk down the hall, Henry quick ran after him as he spoke " sounds fun but no guarantees that it doesn't end up burnt or inedible."
As Henry and Arthur entered the kitchen, Arthur placed the letter on the counter before starting to take out ingredients and place them on the counter to, Henry leaned on the counter as he spoke " so what should I do or should I just watch?" Arthur just laugh at his younger brother before saying " your definitely helping, don't worry Merlin. But you can get out the eggs, sugar, and chocolate chips," as Henry did what his brother said and while Arthur still had his hack turned and looking for ingredients, Henry started to eat a few of the chocolate chips before saying " so exactly are we baking and where did you learn how to bake?"
Arthur finally finished as he placed the last few ingredients on the counter before saying " were baking chocolate chip cookies and mum taught me the recipe the summer before my first year," Arthur then pulled Henry toward him as he ruffled his hair a bit before saying " and no eating the ingredients, merlin," Henry laughed a bit as he spoke " alright, alright and cookies sound good but have you ever made them by yourself without help?" Arthur smiled at his younger brother " once or twice, now Merlin if you could mix the dry ingredients for me," Henry just looked at Arthur almost stunned as he spoke " what's the dry ingredients?" Arthur then laughed a little as he pulled a bowl toward them and said " I'll show you, don't worry Merlin."
The two brothers started with mixing the dry ingredients which were mainly sugar, flour, a dash of salt, and a bit of brown sugar. Once down they then mixed in half or so of a stick of butter, two eggs, and vanilla extract before mixing that up and finally Henry poured in more then half the bag of the semi sweet chocolate chip cookies which made Arthur laughed " I think you added a bit too many there Merlin," Henry just laughed as he elbowed his brother playfully " well there chocolate chip cookies aren't there, better more then less if I say," Arthur just smile as he playfully elbowed his brother back before Henry started to mixing the batter together.
When done however the two boys started to scoop out small amount of batter onto a tray before sort of shaping them into circles or semi circles while doing it the two boy couldn't help but to push each other playfully a bit and compare their circles while the whole time they were laughing, Henry was definitely in a better mood now. When they were finished Arthur placed them into the oven after they debated for a while at temperature and for how long,as the two brothers waited they grew closer before hearing the timer go off knowing that it was time.
Henry took a fee of the chocolate chip cookies and wrapped them up in a red cloth napkin before wrapping a brown string around it and tied a knot onto it, Henry then gave the package to his brother's barn owl; Sandy as he spoke to her " to the keeper of the keys and grounds of Hogwarts girl and good luck on your journey," the owl then took off on her journey to Hogwarts to deliver the cookies.
