Fear Of Water And A Lake Don't Mix PV Closed

Felix had been wondering around the grounds for sometime now. Skipping and walking as he enjoyed the beautiful scenery and fresh air. He had always enjoyed wondering the forests around his home growing up and so was very pleased that he had such a grand area to explore outside. That's when he realized that he hadn't explored one place yet today.

He still hadn't gone around the Great Lake today and so decided that before he went back inside he would go around the lake. He skipped over to the edge, wondering if he would see any of the lake creatures. He had heard rumors that there was a giant squid that lived in the lake and hoped that it was true. He heard footsteps and looked around to see who was there.

In the distance, he saw a girl with light, blonde hair and tan skin. She looked slightly older than him so he assumed that she was probably a second year but sometimes it was hard to tell. She looked uneasy and very uncomfortable so he wondered what was making her so uneasy. He walked towards her, hoping he didn't scare her accidentally.

"Hello, are you alright," he questioned, his Irish accent thick as ever. He fixed his bangs slightly as he gave his warmest smile. He wanted to make sure that he didn't scare her or at least if he did it wouldn't be as bad. "Are you a second year," he questioned, curious and wanting to make sure that he was correct in his assumptions.

Miranda had been just about to leave when a - it took her a moment to discern their gender, but she decided to go with male - boy with short orange hair walked up and spoke to her. "I'm fine," Miranda replied, perhaps a bit too sharply. She didn't really want people to know she hated water. They'd probably find it quite amusing afterwards to toss her in the lake, even more so than when they thought she didn't mind it. And Miranda didn't intend to take any risks. "And, uh, yes, I'm in my second year." Hopefully he wouldn't notice anything off about her first answer if he continued to ask questions. Or maybe she should just leave.

The Ravenclaw glanced back up at the castle, then back at the boy. No, leaving now would most likely cause more suspicion than answering. She could just try to fib her way through - although the idea of lying was repulsive to her, even though she'd technically done it not even twenty seconds ago.

"What are you doing out here?" Miranda asked in a further attempt to draw his attention away from her obviously uncomfortable mood, although her question came out a little more brusquely than she intended. To her ears, it almost sounded like she was mad. Hopefully the boy wouldn't think the same.

After the girl had told him she was fine, which he didn't really believe but didn't really want to pry, she confirmed his assumption of her being a second year. The way she spoke did come off as a little harsh but he was pretty sure that it was just because she was uncomfortable. After a little awkward silence, she asked him what he was doing out here. The question yet again came off as a little harsh, but Felix didn't mind.

"I was just exploring and enjoying the fresh air," he told her, smiling happily, "I like to come out here when ever I can, the lake was the last place for me to explore today before I went back inside." He looked out at the Great Lake and smiled again slightly. It was really beautiful and he remembered the time he rode on the boats with the other first years at the beginning of the year. That was when he saw the castle in all of its glory for the first time.

"What are you doing out here, if you don't mind me asking," Felix asked the girl, turning back to her with a smile. "My name is Felix by the way, Felix Hayes," he told her, thinking that it might be a good idea to introduce himself. He wanted to help her feel... less uncomfortable and he kinda hoped he wasn't the reason why she was still uncomfortable.

Miranda half smiled when the boy mentioned getting some fresh air. She herself did the same thing on many occasions - she had always been an outdoorsy person, after all. A cautious glance in the lake's direction showed that it was a safe distance away. Perhaps it would be okay to stop acting like a frightened rabbit.

"Same here," Miranda replied, still smiling slightly. "Although I've yet to check out the Quiditch Pitches and such. Flying is a - mixed interest of mine." She didn't elaborate further, although if pressed, would no doubt share a few more details. After all, perhaps sharing the knowledge of her dilemma might help, like the way she'd had to share the details of her...condition last year in order to get the weight off of her back.

She hoped her tone sounded more friendly now, otherwise Miranda was sure the conversation wouldn't last long. "Oh, I'm Miranda Everest. From Ravenclaw." After a year of attending Hogwarts, she found that most people ended up asking, or volunteering their house anyways. Miranda preferred to just get it over with right off the bat. Then they could move onto more important things, like what their true personalities were like, not just what people assumed because of their house.

The girl told him that she had also gone outside for fresh air and that she was interested in flying. Felix smiled at this, she seemed to have relaxed a bit more while talking about her interests. He had come to learn that people become more at ease when they talk about their interests. Not that he really had many conversations with other people back home but he still could listen to conversations.

He went to say something but before he could she started talking again. She introduced her self, telling him that her name was Miranda and that she was a Ravenclaw. Felix smiled warmly," It's a pleasure to meet you," he started, then realizing that he had forgotten his house, "I'm a Hufflepuff, almost forgot about that." He giggled and looked up at her, sometimes he wished he wasn't so small but what could he do.

"I've heard people talk about flying for... Quidditch I think," he continued talking, steering it back to her interests. "It sounds fun but i'm afraid of heights so I don't think I would be very good at it," he told her, playing with the sleeve of his sweater slightly as he looked out at the lake. He hadn't always had a fear of height but after a certain...incident... he had been afraid ever since. "You seem like you would be good at it though, especially if you like flying, you seem like you would be rather athletic," he told her, looking back at her and smiling.

So Felix was a Hufflepuff. Miranda supposed she could have guessed that if she'd relied on the classic house personality guidelines to place him. But she knew quite well that the basic assumptions rarely covered everyone they were meant for. She herself was more into getting in trouble and exploring places normally marked off bounds than the classic Ravenclaw, after all. Although her brother was a true Gryffindor until the end.

When he mentioned that he thought Miranda would be good at Quidditch, she winced audibly, much to her chagrin. Apparently lots of people thought that - but not her. She very much disliked being off the ground - probably not as much as she hated getting wet, but it was up there. Which posed the following problem; how was she supposed to play for her house when the very thought of mounting a broom and heading out onto the pitch made her queasy?

"Quidditch looks interesting," she finally replied, making sure to choose her words carefully. "And some people love to play, I'm sure." Miranda shrugged, trying to keep her expression and demeanour noncommittal. "I just find it...well...I'd rather keep both feet on the ground for the time being. It'll take a lot of work before that changes.

Felix could tell that Miranda was choosing the following words she spoke carefully. It took him a moment to process the information but as he thought about it it became somewhat clear to him what this was about or, at least, he thought so. She must be afraid of heights, that's why she was uneasy about the idea of being up high. Felix wasn't quite aware as he started speaking but slightly regretted it as the words came out, "It's alright to be afraid of things you know?"

He looked down at his feet, slightly flustered. "uh...I mean...um... I'm afraid of a lot of things so you know it's ok to be sometimes depending on your fear I guess," he stuttered out the first part and then quickly said the rest. It was almost impossible to understand with his accent and the way the words had all jumbled together. "Like a fear of heights or spiders, there both common fears, I know I have a fear of both," he laughed nervously, he was used to getting yelled at by people when he accidentally said things he didn't mean to and so was getting ready for it.

"But you know, people can get over their fears with a little help sometimes," he smiled, fidgeting with his sleeve again. He looked up at Miranda, wondering what was going to happen. He couldn't help but think now that there might have been another reason for her being nervous when he first talked to her and wondered if there was something around that she was also afraid of. He would of asked but he figured he had probably said enough for the moment.

"Yeah, they can," Miranda agreed, although her gaze was distant and she didn't seem to be thinking about the present time. "But...well, it's not easy to start. What am I supposed to do? Jump on a broom and go for a fly?" She sighed, mentally berating herself for opening up to pretty much a complete stranger. She barely even knew him, after all. Some of the paranoia she'd felt in her first year about professing her fears and worries was coming back, and that made her shut up pretty fast. Perhaps Felix noticed. Perhaps he didn't. Either way, her voice trailed off and she simply continued to stare off into the distance, a small crease between her eyebrows.

Memories of the many doubts that had chased her when she'd been a first year were cycling through her head once more. They no longer affected her as deeply, but they were still there. Always had been, perhaps always would.

In a small part of her mind, she wondered briefly what Felix had been saying when his words had jumbled together and become ineligible. It almost helped her keep her thoughts off of the worries. Almost, but not quite. She wasn't distracted that easily from her problems. Well, at least not today.

"Sure, I get that there are people who live with their fears constantly, but if you can avoid them...well, why not? At least for a while." Miranda was very conscious about the fact that her words weren't making much sense coming from her. If she truly wanted to avoid flying, all she had to do was talk to the Ravenclaw team captain about resigning. But she didn't do it. Why was that?
