It was just after 8AM when she came downstairs from her room where she had spent most of her time those remaining days left of Summer. "Are you hungry, darling?" Marige asked in a concerned voice, hating what had went down just within the past week of the Rosier residence.
She shook her head, "No and I'm going to Diagon Alley today for my school supplies." Alina informed at least someone in the household. She couldn't inform her father as he hadn't been home since he took off last week.
James approached the two as he came into the kitchen. "Miss Alina, I will accompany you." She shook her head. "That won't be necessary, James. I don't need anyone." Not her mother who died when she was seven, not her father who up and left without a word last week and they hadn't heard from him since, not her former governess that she cared so much about that left just days before her father. Not her twin sister who left already having transferred to Beauxbatons and not Clifton who wouldn't be around anymore. "I'm fine on my own."
It was a lie. James, her father's assistant and one of the hired help of the Rosier residence knew it. Margie, the cook, knew it too. Even Alina knew it. ...But that didn't mean she'd ever admit it.
She grabbed an apple, placed it into her bag and headed out of the kitchen, down the corridor to the Grand Foyer and to the Floo Network Entrance of the wizarding home. James followed her. "Now Miss, Alina...know that your father would go with you if he ..." but she cut him off quickly. "But he's not here, is he? He's gone. Off doing what he does best with his lack in parenting especially when..." but she stopped. She wanted to say especially when she needed him the most but to hell with that. "I don't need him. As I said, I'm fine on my own. "À la prochaine," she spoke in French, using the goodbye phrase that meant 'until next time' used when one is unsure when they're going to see the other person again. Most likely it was going to be that evening but honestly, she was in no hurry to return.
She entered into Diagon Alley and took her list out of her bag. There were a lot of others there, either shopping with their families or meeting up with friends but there was Alina Rosier, on her own. Her first stop was into Flourish and Blotts, the bookshop where she could purchase her schoolbooks for her upcoming Second Year at Hogwarts.

Henry walked down diagon alley yet again with his two siblings, from all of his other trips he already collected all his supplies for his second year then why was the 12 year old there. Well, his older brother needed some things for his auror training and their father was gone yet again so Henry and Annabeth tagged along not that Henry wanted to go but it was better then staying alone at their house in Liverpool with only his thoughts. The boy wore worn out jeans, an long sleeve white shirt, with his faded greenish jacket and his necklace with the sun pendant that was hidden under his shirt. Henry also had his messager type bag over his shoulder because who knew what one could do that day exactly when they passed flourish and blotts bookstore.
" Would you guys mind if I meet you back here?" Henry asked his siblings as he came to a halt, books have always been his one source of comfort so they would understand as Annabeth spoke in a not caring attitude " whatever, like I would care what you ass does." Before Henry could respond to his twin, she walked away and saw something change in her since their meeting with the Alluring's; their father's family but Henry never asked her about. Arthur then smiled at him and spoke quicky " go ahead Merlin, meet you back here in a hour or two?" Arthur then jogged after Henry's twin as Henry stepped inside the bookstore and took a sniff, he felt at home there.

She had already gathered The Standard Book of Spells, Grade 2 by Miranda Goshawk and now was over in the section of bound blank leather books that one might use for journaling or a sketchbook. She always liked to have a few of these on hand and it seemed this year she might need them more than ever. Whenever a random idea came into her head or she just wanted to list things out to sort out her feelings, she'd jot down some notes or sketch out something.
"I think that's everything, baby girl," she overheard a man say and glanced over to the next shelving of books from the floor the ceiling. A young girl laughed and looked down, "Da, we talked about this!" she said to her father. The man was carrying quite a heavy load of books which told Alina that the girl was most likely an incoming first year and the accent told her that they were most likely from Scotland. "Let's finish so we can get ice cream."
It was nice to see, a father and a daughter. The two obviously had a strong bond with the way the girl smiled so easily with him and he seemed to watch her with a slight bit of sadness that his little girl was soon to be going off to school. Alina almost knew what that felt like that Summer. Almost.
Not wanting to think about it any more, she grabbed her small stack of books and turned quickly, only to upset a display of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them books by Newt Scamander, required for First Years. The hardcover textbooks came tumbling down, the crash echoing through the store. "Sorry," she whispered, feeling like she was disturbing everyone in the bookstore and she hurried to begin picking them up and attempting to rebuild the display.

Henry was just about to wander down a random aisle when he saw a girl who was actually quite pretty knock over a display of his favorite books by his hero; Fantastic beasts and where to find them by Newt Scamander. Henry wasn't big on social interactions but she seemed embarrassed and he did have a some confidence that he gained from his first year plus this would give him the chance to test out how he was going to keep his new family and life hidden from all of Hogwarts before he got to Hogwarts. As Henry approached the girl, he thought she looked familiar so Henry then thought that she was a second year like him but then he remembered or thought he did remember seeing her in his coming room.
Henry bend down and started to help the girl pick up the books as he spoke " I love this book, thanks for finding them for me," Henry tried a joke to help her feel less embarrassed. After he finished helping her pick up the books then reorganize them on the display he spoke " are you alright there mate?" Henry offered her a warm smile as he continued " I'm Henry, your a second year like me right? I'm sure I have seen around Hogwarts since your face is one that I wouldn't have forgotten."

She smiled just slightly at his attempt to help not only contain her embarrassment but to be friendly. She tried to study his face, wondering if she could place him anywhere but she couldn't seem to so if he knew her face, that only meant one thing. "You might be thinking of my identical twin sister, Bella. She was in Slytherin but transferred over the Summer to Beauxbatons. I'm Alina." She didn't do her normal 'Alina. Alina Rosier.' Curtsy and all. Alina just didn't feel like herself these days and wasn't her normal peppy perky self. Life was beating her down.
"Thanks for helping me with these. I'm...apparently a mess." She knew that was true. She felt empty, broken, blank as the pages of the journals that she was to purchase.
She picked up the sign that had also fell upon the floor and placed it on top of the last book, the way it had before she knocked it down. "At least it isn't too terribly crowded this time of day. If I came afternoon and did this, I probably would have mistakenly attacked a first year." Flourish and Blotts was where all Hogwarts students came to get their textbooks for the upcoming year and with school beginning next week, the bookstore and Diagon Alley surely was about to get pretty crowded later that day.

Henry listened to her talk about her twin before introducing herself ad Alina, Henry then spoke quickly " there's something we have in common, both of our twins go to different schools than us," Henry then listened as Alina spoke about her thanks for him helping her and to that Henry replied " no problem,
and plus it was worth it since I got to meet you." Henry then heard her speak again and waited for her to finish before speaking " that's true, hey if your not planning on leaving soon," Henry noted the shopping list that she had which means she was probably looking for her school books Henry then spoke " I could help you get your books and other things, if you like?"
Henry thought the company would be nice and it would take his mind off of his thoughts and anxiety, plus spending time with her was better than listening to his own twin sister curse and complain about every little thing with her being short tempered and all but Henry did promise himself that he will make a point and ask his twin what wrong with her since she has been especially moody after they unexpecting and unhappily visit with their hidden family.

"Do I seem that pathetic that I need help?" she asked before really thinking. That wasn't kind and she glanced down. "Sorry, I just thought....I just thought it would be different getting my school supplies this year. Things have been a little crazy for me and I shouldn't have snapped at you." He had been nothing but kind and helpful.
He seemed to be alone now that she thought about it. He said he had a twin that was going to a different school and she glanced around the bookstore, noticing that he didn't have any family in the store either. Maybe he was off on his own too. She wasn't so sure she was ready to be company for someone else. The past week or more she had been quite a pathetic mess.
"I think I'll take you up on that," she said, wondering if he too was going through some stress in his life. Maybe he wanted the company. Maybe secretly she did too. "This was my first stop," and maybe his too since it was still early morning, "I've still quite a lot of shopping to do. Sure you're up for it? I even have to stop in and get new robes. I tore two of my others last year climbing trees."

"Well, I wanted to see what they had on Herbology...if there was anything that focused on healing plants and substances. Just for some personal reading, not for class. I believe most of our classes use last year's texts," she glanced to him, not really sure.
"And thanks for the offer to tag along with me. Originally I thought I'd be here with my sister but her school has already started and she didn't come to Diagon Alley at all for her school supplies this year. Then I thought I'd be with someone else but he's not coming back and then my father's skipped out the last couple weeks and has been gone so...just me." She then realized she was not only rambling but she was sounding pathetic.
"I'm sorry, I'm sounding quite needy," she said with a bit of a laugh, "I'm usually quite upbeat. You caught me an off day," week, month, year...however long this might last. No. It didn't last if she didn't want it to. She never let her outside school problems bother her when it came time for school and she had to do that again.
"And I mean to say is, it WAS just me until you came along," and she did appreciate his company. "I think we should hit up most of the stores and then celebrate at the end with ice cream." That dad with his first year had the right idea. "My treat," and she added that in not because she picked up on anything with his family's economics, but rather because it was he who was going out of his way that day to help her and provide her with company. A win-win.
"So you said you're in Slytherin? How do you like it there? Why do you think the hat placed you there? Did you know my sister Bella?"

Alexa had just finished speaking with Walter when she heard the crash from the front of the store. Walking quickly, she peered around the end of a bookcase to see none other than Alina, having knocked over some first-year books, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. She was about to call out, when Alina was approached by a boy Alexa recognized from school but could not place.
She watched them talk for a moment, not wanting to interrupt, and noticed that Alina seemed unaccountably deflated… Certainly not her usual peppy self. Alexa wondered what was wrong, and something moved into her stomach nervously. Why did she feel this premonition something bad?
Just as the pair were seeming to turn to leave, she stepped forward. “Alina!” She strode up to them on her now long, 12-year-old legs, and smiled shyly in the presence of a boy she didn’t know. “I didn’t know you were here today. This is great! How are you doing?” She hadn’t seen Alina since her visit to Surrey not long ago, but something had changed, she was sure.
She quickly glanced at the other boy, and smiled slightly. "Hello, sorry for interrupting. I'm Alexa, and you are?" She was getting better at this introductions thing. About time!
Is the title of this thread a reference to the song "Sound of Silence" by any chance? :-)
