What Time Can’t Erase

Summer had flown swiftly by, leaving Ariana with a raw unkempt feeling that she longed to be rid of. Her first year at Hogwarts had been much simpler than this one was to be. She had made friends, messed around and had dangerously reckless fun, yet as she delved into second year it was almost as though she had been stripped of this ability to take things in a carefree way. Reality had hit her; life wasn’t all fun and games. That saddening theory had been undeniably proved this past summer.
She supposed there was verity in what people often said, ‘the truth can hurt.’ indeed it did, a fickle friend in the fact that its attributes were not always positive. It stood rather still, adamant in its fact of unchanging possibility.
Learning the truth of her dear cousin's death had brought something of deep sadness to her, she longed to turn back in time to escape such lifeless memories, to be rid of such an aching pain. Then again would that be cowardly of her? After all she had been trying to live through it, to live on despite such an unfortunate concept. Often, change was something she didn’t favour quite enthusiastically, however it wasn’t as though this really was a problem now. After all she had changed quite a bit since last year, she was more mature, more aware. Hell, her whole life had practically been turned upside down. It wasn't something new to her anymore.
Last year she most likely would have come down to the lake amidst friends, chattering perhaps, exchanging endless stories and random humorous thoughts. However, she wandered down quite alone this time, silent, content within her own thoughts. Who was to disturb her here anyway?
Sneakers crushed over dry, crisp leaves and she sat down by the lake, her hair tickling her face as it danced along with the winds whistle. Her expression was unreadable, aside the flicker of confusion in her eyes. Her hand moved to her face, brushing away stands of dark hair from her pretty visage. In all fact, inside this was the same Ariana, the same carefree, reckless, girl who could cheer anyone up with a joke or a smile. Whether she would choose to punch through to that side or not would be another story, for there was an urge to wrap herself up in her own thoughts, to cut off anyone who dared poke their nose into her business.
She would not stir from her tranquil spot, enjoying the fresh waves of air that ruffled through her hair. During the end of summer she had become rather accoustomed to the fact that she really couldn’t trust anyone, however, here within the grounds of hogwarts, she felt more welcome, she had people she could trust here, real friends, family. For a second it was as though she was scolding herself for her own stupid thoughts. She wasn’t alone, at least here she wasn’t.
