Quidditch what a weird word. Apartly it was a wizard sport. I'd never really thought about wizards having their own sport but appartly I did. I walked up to the entrance the shop and looked through the window. I had never really been into any muggle sport but this, this looked awsome.
Flying broomsticks? How could I not want one? If only the letter hadn't specifically said that first years couldn't have them but still the beautifully carved pieces of wood practically called ro me. Behind the broomsticks were tons of posters of wizards flying around wnd in their hair chaing after small flying objects. I was instantly filled with questions. How did you play? Was their a Quidditch team at Hogwarts? Would I learn to fly. I wanted to learn everything about the sport. I slipped in the door to the building I didn't like the crod but still I was intrigued.
I walked over to one of the broomsticks curiously and I didn't notice when someone walked up near me. I turned to look at a sparkling gold ball with wings and basically ran into another kid near me. I shrunk away quickly saying "Sorry, really sorry. Didn't mean to run into you."

Kaegan arched one eyebrow dismissively as he surveyed the wide expanse of Diagon Alley that housed most of the shops he'd need to visit to purchase his school supplies. Awfully small for a place so popular, he thought with a slight smirk, his green eyes coming to rest on a shabby shop with Quality Quidditch Supplies written in looping, golden script on its hanging sign. Sleek broomsticks and a shimmering, winged Snitch were displayed in the window, resting haphazardly in their velvet holders. He took one more disparaging glance before heavy footsteps came to rest behind him, and the brown-haired boy felt a rigid hand rest on his shoulder.

"I assume you know what to do?" Kaegan didn't miss his father's sharp, steely tone of voice.

"Yes, Father," he said, his jaw tightening and a scowl twisting his features. His father's hand dropped cooly to his side, resting on his silver cane. Kaegan turned around, his brow furrowed, and held out an open palm. One of his father's ringed fingers slipped into the pocket of his emerald cloak and withdrew a leather pouch, dropping it disdainfully into the hands of his son. The audible clinking of many coins sounded heavily from within.

Kaegan nimbly pocketed the bag and moved away with a practiced air of indifference, feeling the scornful gaze of his father on his back. Despite the practical need to purchase a wand and other essentials, he began to gravitate towards the Quidditch shop, coming to a stop in front of a long, mahogany broomstick displayed proudly in the window.

Kaegan's bitter mood deepened as he quickly scanned his acceptance letter and read the annotation specifying that first years would not be needing Quidditch equipment. Not that you care, he reminded himself. You've seen better broomsticks than these in a pile of dead branches.

The boy turned away with a grimace, setting out in the direction of Ollivander's, when, out of the corner of his eye, he caught the sight of an oddly familiar ivory watch hanging in a display case in the back of the Quidditch shop.

Surely, one look can't hurt.

He pushed through the glass door, the ringing of a small brass bell signifying his entrance. Not bothering to acknowledge the few customers who waved a greeting at him, he walked swiftly to the glass case, leaning over to look at the watch face. Any recollections of past memories the timepiece might have evoked vanished completely. It was just a simple knockoff of what may have been an expensive ornament in its day, which had clearly passed.

"I'm sorry, sir, I'm afraid you won't be able to purchase that today. It's on display only." Kaegan straightened up stiffly as the voice of the shopkeeper rang behind him, before turning and smiling sarcastically. "Oh, I wasn't planning on it."

He strode past the salesman and was almost at the door when a girl he had noticed ogling the different merchandise earlier crashed into him from behind. Kaegan recoiled immediately with a sneer, brushing off the front of his jacket. His voice was mocking when he spoke:

"Are you always this ungraceful, or do you just show off when I'm around?"

I was embarssed I didn't mean to have knocked into anyone. When I turn to see who I ran into I see a boy probably my age but taller with dark brown hair, he's glareing at me with dark green eyes the color of moss, his mouh is curcled into a scowl in my direction. I take a step back wondering way he's so angery he seems fine but his glare never lessens as my eyes start to dart around lik I'm a deer in headlights.

He brushes off his jecke before speaking to me as me mearingly bumping into him could have contaminaed him. What is his problem? I start to think.

Then in the most condesending tone possible he says "Are you always this ungraceful, or do you just show off when I'm around?"

At first I'm shocked by his words but just as quickly as spark of extreme anger iginites in me. I give him a very fact smile and making sure to drip my every word in sarcasm.

"Thank you so much you're wonderful question. I just have one of my own to ask you first, are you always this rude, or do you show off when I'm around?" I say glaring at the conceited boy.

The girl stepped backward, her look of surprise quickly melting into one of anger as she turned his words around on him. Kaegan returned her fake smile, cocking his head to one side. "Well, aren't you a little ray of pitch black?" he mocked sarcastically. "You're the result of four billion years of evolution. Is it so hard to act like it?"

He turned away, reaching for the door when suddenly it was flung open and he moved back, almost colliding with the girl again. The bell above the door shook violently as a small child, looking to be only around two or three, raced into the store, shouting with delight. Kaegan glanced up at the owner of the shop, but the man was busy wrapping a broomstick for a customer and paid them no attention.

The kid shrieked gleefully again, running around frantically before stopping to tug on the sleeve of Kaegan's jacket, pointing one finger at one of the expensive Snitches tucked into a display case. Kaegan, caught by surprise, raised his eyebrows and quickly sidestepped out of the boy's clutch. The child looked up, his blonde cowlick quivering with unhappiness, and then let out a loud, displeased wail, flailing his arms and legs in a fit of infantile anger.

Kaegan blinked at the boy in mild surprise before stiffly kneeling by his side, giving the child's shoulder an awkward pat in an attempt to calm him down before anyone began to notice. "Uh, sorry about that, buddy-" the boy shoved him away with an angry yell, cutting him off midsentence. With one more cry, the child kicked out at the display case holding the Snitch and fled from the shop, continuing to bawl as he went.

Kaegan whipped around just in time to watch the contents of the glass box, Snitch and all, crash to the floor of the shop, shattering immediately upon impact. The loud noise cast a silence over the shop, and then irate footsteps stormed towards them.

"Alright," the angry voice of the shopowner reverberated around the silent store. "Who's idea of a funny joke is this?"

Kaegan shot a quick look outside but the child was nowhere to be seen, having already taken off around the street. He straightened up from his crouching position, glancing disdainfully at the girl for a split second before giving the manager a look of mock regret.

"Terribly sorry, sir, I had no idea how uncoordinated this girl could be," he said, gesturing at his companion. "It's a terrible shame she had to let that lovely Snitch go to waste, though, isn't it?" The shopkeeper didn't seem to catch the hints of sarcasm at the edge of his voice.

Kaegan turned and offered the girl a ridiculing smile.

I don't think I'm better than you, I know I am.

"Well, aren't you a little ray of pitch black?" he said mockingly, "You're the result of four billion years of evolution. Is it so hard to act like it?"
I rolled my eyes at this. This statment wasn't ironic at all because he was such a good example of what could come out of four billion years of evolution. I thought sarcastically.

Thankfully he looked like he was going to leave he was reaching for the door but as he opened it he moved back almost falling right onto me.

When he finally moved out of the way I saw what had caused the commotion it was a little blonde boy around two or three he began running around the store running into stuff and touching everything. I srunk away. I was not good woth kids. Where was this boys parents? I think desperately looking towards the door.

The kid ran up to the brown haired boy and began pointing and tugging on him when he didn't give him the attention he wanted he began screaming, crying, and finally kicking at the glass case near him and it broke my eyes went wide as I watched it smash to the floor the golden ball with wing crashed to the ground. I hoped it wasn't expensive.

Then I was suddenly looking at a middle aged man with his arms crossed looking supically around at everyone in the store, I realized he must be the owner "Alright, Who's idea of a funny joke is this?" He said.

The boy gives me a glare before apeaking as if I somehow caused this.

"Terribly sorry, sir, I had no idea how uncoordinated this girl could be," he says gesturing at me, I stare at him incredulous. Is he really going to throw me under the bus for this? "It's a terrible shame she had to let that lovely Snitch go to waste, though, isn't it?" He said. I glare at him.

Then he has the nerve to smirk at me. I want to slap that stupid grin off his face but I ignore him and insteaf talk to the stre owner, "I didn't do anything,"I say. "A little kid ran in here and knocked down the case. I'm sure other people saw. He," i point at the jerk trying to blame me for something i didn't do and I reaize I don't even know his name. "is just a liar who hates me for no reason. "

"He,", the girl said, jabbing her finger in Kaegan's direction, "is just a liar who hates me for no reason." Kaegan regarded the girl superciliously, still smirking at her. "He has a name, shockingly," the boy mocked. "But he wouldn't expect you to know that."

A shorter woman moved from where she had been standing by a rack of broomsticks, wringing her hands nervously in front of her. She was thin and frail, with a nervous tremor, a mass of piled gray hair, and a robe the color of a ripe plum. Her voice quivered when she spoke, but the store was so silent it seemed to carry much farther than one would have expected it to.

"P-Pardon the interruption, s-sir, but it's t-true that none of these young students broke your merchandise. T-there was a-" the woman began, but the red-faced storekeeper cut her off with an angry wave of his hands.

"I don't give a damn over who started this mess, I just want somebody to give me my money for it. I don't run a charity, Chase," he growled, leveling a flustered glare at Kaegan. "You think your father would be happy to see you in here, boy?"

The smirk dropped away immediately from Kaegan's face, all pretenses of reproving the girl gone. He clenched his jaw and scowled at the owner. "No, sir. I'll pay for the Snitch, sir, just give me a moment," the boy spat out, his lip curling as he dug into his pocket for the money he was given to buy supplies. The shopkeeper held out one burly hand impatiently, tapping a large foot on the hardwood floor.

Kaegan felt around, first in his jacket and then in the satchel hung over his back, scanning for the leather pouch he's entered the store with, but it had somehow disappeared. "Pardon me," he said hostilely to the owner, before turning and leaning down to the girl with his scowl still fixed in place.

"When that urchin ran out of the store," he muttered quietly, his brows furrowed, "did you see him holding a small bag of sorts? That is, if you weren't too busy doing nothing helpful." Kaegan stared at her with a disdainful expression, racking his brain for details of the events after the child's tantrum. Could the boy have grabbed the bag out of his pocket, thinking it was some sort of toy? Perhaps when he had been tugging on its sleeve?

"Well, I advise you find whoever stole that money quickly, Chase," the shopkeeper snapped from beside him. Kaegan's jaw tensed even tighter- why did the man have to know his name? "And you should help him too, girl, or you'll both be paying a lot more than Galleons," the owner added.

Kaegan glared coldly at the both of them, straightening up and moving towards the door. "Well, if it's not too inconvenient for you," he said sarcastically over his shoulder to the girl, "then I advise we go."

I don't think I'm better than you, I know I am.

The boy retorted "He has a name, shockingly, But he wouldn't expect you to know that." I glared at at him. It wasn't like he had asked for my name either. I thought annoyed.

A frail older woman as skinny as a rack thankfully spoke up a moment later.

"P-Pardon the interruption, s-sir, but it's t-true that none of these young students broke your merchandise. T-there was a-" the woman stuttered out. I wasn't sure if the lady was always this nervous or if the horrible glare the shopowner was throwing at her was so unnerving she coild barely speak.

"I don't give a damn over who started this mess, I just want somebody to give me my money for it. I don't run a charity, Chase. You think your father would be happy to see you in here, boy?"

I was confused for a moment. Who was Chase then I glanced over and saw the boys sheet white face and realized that must be his last name. I snickered a bit at the fact his stupid grin had finally fallen from his face but the store owners malicious town kept me from enjoying it much. I wkndered for a brief moment about his last sentence, why would his father care if he was in a Quidditch store?

"No, sir. I'll pay for the Snitch, sir, just give me a moment," Snitch must have beem what the golden thing broken on the floor was. Chase, reached desperatly into his pockets searching for some sort of cash but he couldn't seem to find anything.

"Pardon me," he said to owner clearly trying to conceal fear.

Then he leaned down a fact I didn't think being taller then him or at least the same height would have been preferable and asked

"When that urchin ran out of the store. did you see him holding a small bag of sorts? That is, if you weren't too busy doing nothing helpful." He said I almoat had an ounce of sympathy forhim because he had lost his money and this store owner was srill coming done very hard on him but of course he had to add in that statement. Nothing helpful? None of this was my fault. What did he expect me to have done? Wrestle the kid to the ground and body search him for stolen goods?

"Well, I advise you find whoever stole that money quickly, Chase, And you should help him too, girl, or you'll both be paying a lot more than Galleons," the owner snapped at us.

I hadn't even done anything why was I being dragged into this?

"Well, if it's not too inconvenient for you, then I advise we go." Chase said in his cold and callous voice.

"Oh? You need my help now?" I say arching an eyebrow. "I thought I was an annoying ray of pitch black, an utter failure of evolution." I say sarastcially. I had more to say but the shopowner was still glaring at us, he growled "stop you're squabbling and get out of my store already."

I gulped worried about what would happen if we didn't get his cash soon and hurried out the door.

"Oh? You need my help now?" the girl questioned, raising one eyebrow. Kaegan gave her a contemptuous smile. "My apologies, your highness, am I asking too much of you?" he said, his voice laced with mockery. The small cluster of wizarding folk watching their argument had amassed into a fluctuating crowd, some entering, but most taking their leave, wary of the tension in the room. "Stop your squabbling and get out of my store already," the shopkeeper snapped, seemingly noticing their drain on his business. He glared at them with a face an even angrier shade of red than it had been before.

Kaegan moved quickly out of the door with the girl on his heels, the bell chiming loudly while they exited. Whispers from behind them floated into the street as the Quidditch patrons loudly speculated over the culprit's real identity. One man in an emerald green suit stepped forward and held a shard of the golden Snitch to the light as if he could see the fingerprints just through examination.

Kaegan let out a disdainful sigh and squinted down the cobblestone street, hoping for a glimpse of the blonde cowlick, but to no avail.

"If using your eyes wasn't so clearly a foreign concept to you, I might ask if you saw that child anywhere," Kaegan snarked to the girl. Oh, I never caught your name, did I? What a pity," he added sarcastically. Turning the opposite direction, the boy looked to where he'd been before entering the Quidditch shop. Before he could properly glance over the area, however, a hard, voice froze him in his tracks.

"I see you've made a... friend," Kaegan's father said distastefully from behind them, eying the girl with contempt. The audible murmurs from inside the store ceased immediately."What an odd thing to happen to one looking for school supplies."

Kaegan felt his jaw clench as he slowly pivoted to face the arrival. "Hello, Father."

The man arched one eyebrow, turning his focus towards the shop the two had just left. "Correct me, but weren't first-years not allowed a broom?" His father stared at him coldly, his proper British accent enunciating every syllable with scorn. "Come. I should have known not to entrust you with such a simple task."

Kaegan scowled and moved forwards, inwardly debating his options. Saying no to his father seemed entirely out of his capacity, but he was sure the girl would make a scene if he left her to pay for the damaged merchandise. The boy continued to stiffly walk away, before coming to an abrupt halt, stopping to stare at a small blonde boy trotting past, clutching a familiar pouch in one chubby hand. Kaegan looked at the girl and jerked his chin towards the child, before returning into step behind his father, his glare leveled at the ground.

Hopefully, the girl would take the money and find enough sense to pay for the Snitch and appease the shopkeeper. In the meantime, Kaegan had school supplies to purchase.
