It was a busy day at the bakery, as it was to be the family’s last for a few months. Scents of pastries filled the air, and there was a certain kind of unique dampness from the humidity that came from the ovens. For once, it was not only the perpetual panicking son that was overwhelmed by human interactions, with delivery requests coming in quicker than even floo powder could manage. Of course, they weren’t allowed to use the magical substance in their town of muggles, but it would make it much easier. His parents had reassured him anyways that there was nothing to worry about, since they’d been lent a bicycle to make it easier from the kindly lady down the street, the one that smelled like roses and cat dander. Nothing to worry about at all.

Well, nothing to worry about for them, Leonard thought as he took down the flyers. For him, there was much to worry about, as there was in every social situation. He’d already been half-assaulted by hyperactive twin four-year-olds, who'd expected to learn how to make a gingerbread man and ended up learning that cookie dough was certainly not edible raw. The little demons deserved it, he figured, but the pound refunded was not something to ignore. If he was to do good on his final projects for quite some time in the pâtisserie, he was to stop the children from eating toxic materials, no matter how annoying they may have been. A stupid rule, as most rules were, but a rule that needed to be followed, as all rules were.

The next on his scribbled list was a girl by the name of Wynter Black. Quite the name for a muggle girl, and one he didn’t recognise. Was she new around here? He was sure he knew the names of all those near him, so he could mark down which to avoid. Had he missed a spot? No, impossible. He was nothing if not thorough, and he was not nothing. No matter. Once she was in here he could assess her and adjust his personality accordingly, as he always did.

Wynter Black! Get in here! Your turn to bake some bread.” He called out the door, open just a crack.

much to the detriment of leonard oaksworth’s mental health...
