Time to create new memories
Carolyn was still feeling a bit down. It has been three days since she found out her best friend was not coming back to Hogwarts and she still couldn’t quite believe it. What was she supposed to do now? For the first time in her life she wanted to share her troubles with someone only to find out they were no longer in the picture. Sure, she had few other acquaintances, some of which she already considered her friends, but none of them was as close to her heart as Elspeth was. God, she really needed to get outside her head!
September 5th, 2020
And so, Carolyn decided to give herself some well deserved time off. She took her painting supplies and her fluffy companion and marched to find a nice quiet place to create some Art. Mordred, of course, was always ready to follow her steps. He would not leave her side unless she instructed him to stay, which hardly ever happened. “Come on buddy, let’s get outside,” she said with a smile that didn't quite reach her eyes.
It took some time for them to choose a perfect spot but they eventually settled by the lake. Despite the weather being quite nice that day, there were not many people here. Probably hanging out with their friends elsewhere. “Alright, you can play if you want but don’t wander off.” She warned her cat before sitting down and preparing her brushes. Despite her gloomy mood, the scenery could only be described as stunning. There was a sparkling light formed on the lake as sunlight reflected from water, the grass was green and decorated with flowers, which entertained a variety of small insects. At first, Carolyn wasn’t quite sure what to paint but then she leaned to the side to check on Mordred and saw him chasing a blue butterfly. Elspeth loved butterflies, the Ravenclaw remembered sadly. She even mentioned, she would like to become a lepidopterist in the future. A foreign word she would probably never learn otherwise.
Sighing, Carolyn took another look at the pretty creature. Perhaps it’s time to let go, she thought as she started to work on her canvas. She would dedicate this one to Elspeth even if she never got to see it and keep it as a memory. She had to learn not to dwell on the bad things and focus on the good ones. Not to mention, she would most likely get to create a new memories soon. She already met couple interesting people during summer camp. Surely, some of them would stick around…

Time to create new memories
Henry still had a lot on his mind and at the moment he just wanted to be alone so dressed in muggle clothing and camera in hand, Henry decided to go out to the grounds to take some pictures. Since photography always helped him before when he had something on his mind or was anxious, as Henry walked through the ground and to the great lake he noticed that hardly anyone was out which made Henry a bit happy since the last thing he wanted to do was speak with someone since he still had a lot on his mind.
As Henry approach the lake and without noticing was a few feet away from someone that he met at the summer camp, Henry looked through the viewfinder of his camera and started to take pictures of the lake and surrounding area. Eventually he bended down and last on his knees as he got a close up of a butterfly that was landing on a flower close by him,
Henry then checked the photo to be sure that it wasn't blurry before adjusting the camera bag scrap that was sitting on his shoulder. Henry then aimed his camera at the lake and looked through the viewfinder again as he waited for a sign of the giant squib so he could take a picture of it but instead he saw something out of the corner of his eye.
Henry lowered his camera as he saw a small cat a few feet away from him, which made Henry smile as he recognized that cat to be a Egyptian Mau not that Henry cared since he loved all cats. He would have like to get one but his family didn't have enough money well not yet, anyway since last summer when his brother got that owl. Henry laughed a bit as he remembered how much his brother loved that owl, but anyway Henry smiled at the cat as he held his left hand out and watched as it sniffed him slowly since he loved all animals, magical or non-magical and didn't mind if one them bother him since they wouldn't judge it question him.
As Henry continued to hold his hand out while the cat sniff him, Henry spoke softly to it" Hi there, buddy. Aren't you cute?" Henry then looked up quicky for it's owner before looking back at the cat while still holding his out for it to sniff as he spoke again " Where's your owner, buddy? Are you exploring without them, uh?"

Time to create new memories
Carolyn was in the middle of her painting when she heard a male voice. A familiar one too. Once again, she peeked from behind her painting curious, who was her new company. She was also a bit worried since Mordred didn’t necessarily enjoy hanging around strangers. He was very choosy and could be borderline rude. I should probably make sure nobody gets hurt. With that thought, Carolyn laid down her brush and removed a strand of hair from her face (blissfully unaware of the fact that she smeared her cheek with blue paint) before finally standing up and looking for the source of the voice.
Couple steps away, Mordred was sniffing some student’s hand, curiously and somewhat distrustfully. Oh?…Carolyn recognised the boy immediately. “Henry…it’s nice to see you again,” she called to her friend from the summer camp. Her fluffy companion turned to check her expression and after recognising the smile, he finally stepped closer to Henry signalling that he was okay with a pet or two. The young witch chuckled quietly. She couldn’t help but find it fascinating how perceptive her new pet was. She knew cats were smart but still… “I see you’ve already met Mordred. He seems to like you,” she said with a pleased smile on her face. Originally, she was looking for some peace and quiet here but she found herself glad to see Henry. Sometimes silence could be more deafening than a nice conversation with a friend.

Time to create new memories
Henry heard a female voice and looked up and saw it was Carolyn; the girl he met at the summer camp and while Henry preferred to be alone, he also didn't mind talking to another and trying to distract himself from his summer as he spoke to her know " Carolyn, it's nice to see you again," he then heard her introduced her cat which turns out his name is Mordred and after that he seemed to allow Henry to touch him. Henry smiled as he starched Mordred's neck as he look up and spoke to Carolyn " your cat is very cute and I like his name a lot," Henry paused as he remembered that Mordred was the name of a character who wasn't a villain until recently but still was a interesting and wicked character.
Henry continued to starch Mordred behind the ears as he looked up and saw Carolyn had some blue paint on her cheek, which made Henry smile a bit and say " not to worry you but did you know that you had some blue paint on your cheek," Henry momentary stopped petting Mordred to show Carolyn where the paint was by pointing at the same spot on his own cheek before resuming in petting Mordred and saying to Carolyn again " so what are you painting today,
Artist?"

Thankfully, it looked like Mordred approved of his newfound attention and so Carolyn let the cat have his fun. He would probably eventually leave Henry and join her side or continue chasing butterflies but for now, he seemed content with the scratching. “Yes cute but he can be pretty wicked. I assure you he is well deserving of his name,” she huffed amusedly. Carolyn was never a target of her cat’s fury but she had seen it happen.
For a moment, the boy in front of her stopped admiring her pet and looked at her instead. " Not to worry you but did you know that you had some blue paint on your cheek," he asked finally. “What!?” Carolyn definitely did not know that. She noted the hand movement and hastily tried to get rid of the paint, only causing it to get worse. “Oh God…sorry. I don’t use paint all that often. I forgot how messy they are,” she said feeling a bit flustered. At last, Carolyn decided to just give up and use her sleeve to get rid of the paint. She was just glad nobody else was here to judge her clumsiness. It was not customary behaviour for her.
" so what are you painting today, Artist?" Carolyn was finally brought back to reality by another question. So he remembers, the witch thought rather fondly. She wasn’t sure how big of an impact she left on the boy so she didn’t dare to use his nickname at first. It was clear now that she didn’t need to worry and he did in fact remember everything. “Well, Photographer …I tell you what. How about we trade? I will show you my painting if you show me the pictures you’ve taken today,” she nodded towards Henry’s camera with smile. She was sure they were going to be interesting. She also needed a moment to think about whether she should just pretend her artwork was a simple butterfly or whether she should reveal its meaning. Carolyn wasn’t exactly the sharing type. She was more of a listener really. And perhaps, he wouldn’t be interested in the deeper meaning anyway.

Time to create new memories
Henry watched as she wiped off the paint from her cheek, Henry continued to pet Mordred when be said " all gone, don't worry mate," there was something that was the same. He still call others mate which wasn't a bad thing since he grew up around others who also called also mate a lot which made Henry smile as he heard Carolyn say something about him showing her his photos and her showing him her painting. However what made Henry the most relaxed and smiled a bit longer is that she remembered their time during the summer camp, when he said her nickname he didn't know if she will remember but she just called him photographer which confirm that she remembered their times together and Henry remembered the fun he had during the match to.
Henry petted Mordred one last time as he said to him " it was nice meeting you, Mordred and your very adorable mate," before he got to his feet and walked over to Carolyn as he fiddled with the settings of his camera for a bit before bringing up the pictures that he just took. While he is more of a listener and wouldn't have shared his photos with someone else especially since he took these to take his mind off of his family and hidden life, he still thought it wouldn't hurt to show or share then with Carolyn. Henry moved next to her and held his camera out so she could see the pictures as he flipped through them; there were only around 2 so far as Henry spoke " I only just came out so there aren't many, just some of a butterfly and the gaint squid."
Henry then accidentally pressed to far in his photos and another photo came up but this was taken during the summer as the date said and it was of a blonde haired boy with blue eyes. When Henry saw it he quickly fiddled with his camera and turned it off as he smiled up at Carolyn and spoke "sorry I didn't think there were any others on here," then why is there a picture of Oscar on here unless he took it himself but... how would he have gotten my camera and how would he know how to use it, none of this makes sense, why would he even do it? Henry silently thought to himself as he then remembered the picture he took of Carolyn over the summer and added "oh, I got something for you."
Henry opened up his camera bag and gently placed his camera in it as he then took some pictures out and quickly went through then before stopping at one. He put the others away and closed his bag before handing Carolyn the picture that he took of her during the summer as he spoke " so, do you like it?"

Time to create new memories
Mordred meowed dismissively after Henry called him adorable and left to play with the insect again. Carolyn smiled in his direction, she was really fond of her furry friend and he was a great source of comfort to her. By the time she was finished with the cat admiring, her human friend reached her side while fiddling with his camera. The young Ravenclaw moved closer to him and looked at the display with great interest. Huh? She thought mildly surprised. “That’s the same one I’m drawing.” She pointed out, smiling. It was not like this was the only butterfly around but she supposed he was the most interesting out of the bunch... or perhaps the two of them just had a very similar taste. “It’s really good picture. Did you ever think about becoming an actual photographer?” She asked absentmindedly. The second picture was definitely just as good, only further confirming her idea.
Despite Henry' proclamation that he only took two pictures today, there was actually a third one. Picture of a boy Carolyn didn’t recognise. She was about to ask who it was when her friend hurriedly turned the camera off. Perhaps I shouldn’t ask, she guessed after seeing his reaction. "oh, I got something for you." Her thoughts were interrupted by the boy. She watched him put his camera away and pull out a picture from the bag. Carolyn inspected it carefully. It was still weird to her seeing her face in it but objectively speaking it was a well taken photograph. “I’m not going to lie, I kind of wish it was not my face but it’s really good picture nonetheless,” she admitted her feelings aloud. “I still think it would be nice to have a memento from the camp though. May I really keep it?” The witch asked. She didn’t really have any other pictures from summer camp or Hogwarts, which was a shame. “Now, you did your part so feel free to take a look at my picture. I don’t usually use paint so it’s not amazing but it requires more concentration than pencil drawing so it’s a good distraction.” Normally, she would be more nervous showing her art to someone but Henry already saw some and she knew he was not going to judge her.

Time to create new memories
Henry smiled as Carolyn spoke and ask if he was sure that she could keep it to which he spoke " of course you can keep it," Henry pause before continuing " and plus I already made a copy for my photo book. I keep all the photos that I take especially ones that are as beautiful as that one." Henry smiled at her as he thought about their promise about finding and giving her the picture, this wasn't what he had in mind but with everything that happened over the summer, after camp, it would have to do.
Henry heard Carolyn say that he could look at her painting then admit that she doesn't do it much as he smiled at her and took a steps, as he leaned over to it and saw a painting of a blue butterfly, sort of like the one that he took a picture of, Henry then looked at her and spoke " it's beautiful, bloody incredible really. Have you ever thought of becoming a actual Artist, Artist?" Henry asked, sort of copying the question that she asked him about becoming a actual photographer. Henry then looked back at the painting as he spoke again " it also seems like we both found a distraction in the same butterfly."
Henry looked back and smiled at Carolyn as he saw her kitty was playing in the grass, Henry smiled at it and sort of wished he had a cat instead of the owl that his brother had which made Henry speak " do you have any other pets besides that adorable little guy?" Henry then paused before adding again " I would like to have a cat, but the summer before my first year, my brother got a female barn owl named sandy," Henry took a breath before continuing " the owl cost a pretty penny but it was a gift from our father for graduating Hogwarts,
so my cat would have to wait a bit. Not that I mind, much." Henry bit his lip since the last thing he wanted to did was talk of family or his father so he spoke again " so what have you been up to Carolyn?"

Time to create new memories
Carolyn blushed slightly at the compliment. Sure Henry was talking about the picture but technically speaking it was picture of her so… “Well, thank you Photographer,” she said with a smile and proceeded to store the picture safely in her bag so it wouldn’t get dirty when she started playing with paint again. It didn’t take long however, and the young witch was gifted with another compliment this time directed at her artwork. She always struggled with accepting compliments but they made her happy nonetheless. And she could really use some right now. “Well…thank you again. You are too kind,” she said with a grateful smile, although she felt somewhat saddened by the second part of his question. “You are a second friend to ask me that,” she revealed hesitantly. “I actually painted this one for her but…she is not coming back to Hogwarts.” She shrugged still smiling, although this time the smile didn’t quite reach her eyes. It did feel strangely relieving to tell someone though. “I’m going to disappoint you both since I’m really not sure what I want to do just yet. I love Art but I’m keeping my options open.” For a moment, they both turned to watch Mordred playing in the grass as if he had no care in the world. Well, he probably doesn’t, she realised immediately.
“Oh, I do,” the girl perked up when Henry asked about any other pets. She always liked to boast about her dog. She was her closest friend after all. Carolyn reached into her bag and passed a magical picture to the boy standing next to her. “Meet Morgana, she is just as awesome as Mordred. Unfortunately, she can’t follow me here. I truly wish she could.” Carolyn had Morgana for as long as she could remember. It was hard getting used to life without her. “I really hope you will get that cat soon. We could meet and let them play together,” she offered excitedly. “Assuming Mordred will be willing,” she then added sheepishly, remembering her pet was not exactly social. For once, Carolyn was glad to be the only child. It meant she never had to wait in line. Although, being home alone wasn’t really all that great either. “Honestly, I sometimes wish I had a sibling but yes, it has its perks not having one.” She chuckled quietly while watching her fluffy friend jump around.
" So what have you been up to Carolyn?" Henry eventually asked her, interrupting the peaceful silence between them. „Hmm…“ Carolyn paused a little, considering her options. Should she tell the truth or was he just asking to be polite? „Well, summer camp was nice,“ she started in the happier territory. „Then I went home to Chester, which was nice for a week or two before all hell broke loose with ...family issues,“ she scratched her head nervously. “Couldn’t really do much after that. I was mostly stuck at home but hey, at least my parents felt guilty enough to by me a cat,” she attempted to make a joke. “Sounds like you had a tough time too…considering you are here to distract yourself?” Carolyn was very perceptive when it came to other people's feelings and Henry hinted a few times that maybe, he was here to clear up his mind as well.

Henry listened to her speak about becoming a Artist and about her friend as well, when Carolyn was finished however Henry spoke " I'm sorry to hear about your friend, but the ones we lose never really leave us," Henry smiled at her as he quickly added " your friend sounds nice, I hope your able to keep it contact with them and if not then I hope you continue your art for them." Henry smile when Carolyn then started talking about her other dog and even showed Henry a picture of it to which Henry replied " your dog is just as adorable, I hope she gets along with Mordred thought."
Henry looked at the moving picture one last time before adding " maybe one day I could meet her?" Henry laughed at his comment before continuing " being an only child must have its perks. I mean you have two pets who you seem to care for a lot meanwhile my brother has a owl that was suppose to be a family owl. I sometimes use her to send a letter but rarely do since he has too many precautions about sending letters with her, if you see how he treats that bird, you'll think he would want to marry it."
Henry listened to Carolyn talk about her summer and he sort of felt bad for her but also knew how she felt since he to has been dealing with some family problems and to his surprised Carolyn ask him about it in which Henry decided to tell some truth while keeping most of his life hidden as he spoke " that must not have been good about your family but I know how you might have felt.
I had a good summer too minus some family problems, which is why I'm here." Henry didn't want to say more as he wanted to keep that part of his life hidden.
