“Arthur was carved from the same stuff as Camelot - regal and majestic. But Mordred belonged out here, with her.”
Caroyn’s summer has been somewhat rough recently. Things seemed to be going well after summer camp but then her estranged relatives showed up and everything went downhill. Now, her grandparents were in the hospital and the young witch was mostly stuck at home…alone. Morgana kept her company of course, which greatly lifted her spirits yet she couldn’t bring herself to be properly happy. “Tell you what Carolyn. How about we make a trip to Diagon Alley today?” Her mother asked one warm August morning. “Already? Well, I suppose so…Do you have time?” The girl asked hopefully. Eleanor smiled, she looked tired. “Yes, I should have the whole day off. If there are no unexpected disasters of course.” And so it was settled and the two women headed out shopping.

At first Carolyn’s mother simply made sure her daughter had all she needed for the upcoming school year, that however was not the main reason why she brought her here today. “Alright, I think we got everything,” the young Ravenclaw checked her list for the last time. The blonde woman next to her smiled cheekily. “Not quite yet.” She said as she grabbed Carolyn’s hand and led her towards the shop that always stood out to her the most. Carolyn looked at the sign reading Magical Menagerie in utter disbelief. “Really?” She asked hesitatingly. She has been pestering her parents about getting a cat for months now but she didn’t think they would actually do it given the circumstances. “Yes, really. I know how hard it is for you to leave Morgana at home and you did excellent job in your first year, which means you deserve a reward.” Carolyn jumped up and down in happiness. “Thank you, mom!” She said before finally rushing into the store.

The young witch was already here last year and back then, she promised herself to get the Silver Siberian cat. “Good Afternoon,” she greeted the shopkeepers politely. The older woman smelled of cookies and she was just in the process of putting some on a plate. The man didn’t seem to be busy at the moment. “Oh welcome young lady. Came to pick up a pet? We got some new ones,” he announced proudly. Carolyn smiled at the man, nodding. “Yes, I would like to see your Siberian cats if you don’t mind.” Ernest Witticker fixed his glasses; he seemed quite pleased with her attitude. “But of course. We happen to have five beautiful kittens, let me show you,” he beckoned the girl to follow him.

Mr. Witticker was right, the kitten were incredibly beautiful and fluffy. Carolyn wasn’t sure she would be able to choose one. The shopkeeper chuckled at her expression; obviously, her face was showing the inner struggle. “Shame you can’t take them all, isn’t it?” He winked at Eleanor, currently standing by the counter. The woman shook her head amusedly whilst sharing a knowing look with his wife. “Truly…it is,” Carolyn answered without hesitation. Just as she was about to take a closer look, something heavy landed on her shoulders. She nearly toppled over but managed to keep her balance due to her ballet training. “Oh, hello there,” she smiled sweetly on the silver cat, who was currently rubbing his head on her neck. It was a young Egyptian Mau. Magnificent and graceful. “Anita! Look,” Mr. Witticker sounded positively shocked. His wife stopped chatting with their customer’s mother and looked in his direction instead. “Oh my, you are the chosen one!” She proclaimed happily. “This little guy has been hiding and hissing at anybody who dared to come close. I was beginning to think we might have to keep him,” she explained. That made sense considering most cats would be adopted as kittens and this one looked almost grown up. Carolyn suddenly felt extremely special. “Say, do you want to go home with me, Mordred?” She asked in a gentle voice, receiving a soft purr in response. And in that moment Carolyn knew, this was her cat. He was not what she expected but definitely what she needed. “Why Mordred?” The old woman asked as she was offering the young lady a cookie. “Well, did you know that he was made a villain only recently? Originally, he was mostly positive character. I think it's rather fitting.” Carolyn explained quickly. Clearly Mordred was not a mean cat. He was just waiting for her and she was glad he did.
