The First Meal Open Closed

After having her thoughts told to the entire school by the sorting hat Odette made her way to the Gryffindor table, all other sound was drowned out and she felt as if every step she took rung across the hall alerting everyone to her presence, she skittered across the stones and slid on to a seat, the room was overwhelming the ceiling reached beyond the sky and the room felt big enough to host an athletics carnival. But pushing away her worries Odette focused on the food in front of her, there were piles of it, crispy chips that didn't sag, little jelly puffs that flew around with tiny sugar wings, piles of different types of pasta, some good old sausages and all types of other things she'd never seen before. Although she had an overpowering temptation to grab everything and pile it on to her plate she didn't want to look greedy. Odette took a few things as her dinner and eyed down the jelly puffs, her plate was empty so she decided it was time to get one, she reached up for it but it darted out of her way, she reached up for another but it darted right and out of her reach. Odette was set on getting one, her frustration was building, she leapt over the table and cupped it between her hands, she felt the sugar wings tickling her palms, although it died down after it realised it wasn't getting away. Odette happily munched down on it, the jelly had no recognisable flavour yet it was the most delicious thing she'd tasted the entire night. She leaned in to look down the table and felt weirdly happy, the feelings of nausea and worries seemed to evaporate up and out of the ceiling above the sky.
