It Begins
With both her parents having gone to Hogwarts, she was more than prepared for what was coming. They'd told her about the station, on how to get to platform 9 3/4, and how the feeling would be when she went through the pillar for the first time. There were other ways to get there, they'd told her, but it was also something of a rite of passage to get there the traditional way. Or so they claimed. And it was [exhilarating[/i].
Leaving her parents behind was unfortunate, though. Watching them standing and waving was sad, but the sadness was muddled by the excitement she felt. She was going to Hogwarts. She was going to become a witch. Her mother couldn't stop talking about it when the letter came. She was beside herself in excitement, almost practically jumping around the house and was moments from throwing an impromptu neighbourhood party when her father stepped in saying something about the neighbours would want to know what the party was for. But, her mother still threw a party. A small one for the wizards and witches that they knew at Hogwarts. Ellen had the distinct feeling it was for her parents since she was relegated to playing with the little children while the adults drank in the kitchen.
Walking down the hall, dragging her mother’s old trunk behind her, she came upon an empty cabin and went inside. Hefting the heavy trunk and placing it within the cubby over the seats. It took her a while, and by the time she was done, she was breathing a little heavy.
“I think that’s enough heavy lifting for a day,” she said almost to herself and sat down, pulling out an iPhone and some earphones. She put them on and started blasting some music, the moment she did however, her phone started acting funny. The music she was listening to was fuzzing out, skipping, and going wonky. Frowning, she looked down at her phone and the screen just went dark. And immediately died.
She blinked. Tried turning her phone on again, but it wouldn't. Sighing, she put the phone away and sat back against her chair.
