Pet Snakes & Parseltounge
Excuse me if this isn't the correct place to ask this question but I've gotten quite lost and this seemed like the best place to put it.
Hello! I'm very new here and just got my registration approved and have been trying to read through the the process of making an encyclopedia while also trying to read up on all the different aspects of RPing here (ie stats, abilities, races, talents). While I was reading through one of the pages I noticed that it said that individuals with Parseltounge were considered to have a pet snake and that would be considered unique/unusual.
When creating Iris's character I new I always wanted her to have a connection to animals/nature and I specifically was interested in her having a fascination with reptiles (when writing my profile I was under the assumption that more major parts of her life were supposed to be expressed rather then her interests/hobbies) with snakes being one of her favorite creatures (this character trait may have bloomed from my recently developed love for the greatly misunderstood creatures, I usually find characters easier to rp if I can link up some common interests/hobbies). At the time I knew that Parseltounge existed in the Hogwarts universe but I didn't know how it was implemented into the game/rp world. Now that I've read up on the race/talent section I know how it's implemented in the server (some knowledge about the Hogwarts lore escapes me as I love the world that was built but was never quite the fanatic).
My question(s) are basically this:
Is there certain criteria other then the word count etc that need to be satisfied when applying for Parseltounge? (I thought I remember reading somewhere that characters that are halfbreed were encouraged to have experienced players and I didn't know if it was the same with this despite it being a talent...I'm experienced in rping and character creation but I've never played a character on this server before (I'm not even sure if one can play multiple characters or have played more then one character in the past considering only one profile is allowed.)
Do you have to have the Parseltounge ability in order (once you have done what needs to be done to be qualified for a pet of course) to receive a pet snake? If you could get a snake, would that snake be able to be used against you if you didn't have Parseltounge as a language? (Having Iris's pet snake turn on her would be a type of heartbreak that I'm not quite a fan of lol).
I admit I think it would be interesting playing Iris as a Parseltounge as in my (limited) experience I haven't necessarily seen the talent/language used in the sense of being fascinated and caring for reptiles and it's clear that the talent is more intended to be used for nefarious purposes and could get her into a spot of trouble considering the places I am now informed it can unlock (damn that curiosity). However, I completely understand if applying for the talent is out of my reach considering my newby status to this website. If Parseltounge and having a pet snake (eventually) are out of Iris's reach then I'd be interested to know if there would be any other way she could pursue her hobby/interest in reptiles during casual rps.
Any help on this topic would be greatly appreciated (I'm feeling quite a bit overwhelmed by all the info and I figured focusing on one question at a time would be important especially since there is a time limit associated with applying for Parseltounge.)
PS: Sorry for the book, I tend to get carried away.

Pet Snakes & Parseltounge
Hello @Iris Crowe !
There are differences between races/talents and abilities. Races have their own individual advantages (For the paselmouth that is for example the pet snake and the ability to speak parsel, for me as a seer it is for example visions and 10% auto-hit and auto-dodge for attacks). Those are nothing that people without the race/talent can apply for.
You have one month time to apply for a race/talent, when this month is over and you have not done it, you can only apply for abilities. If you are no special race/talent you can apply for an ability every year, if you are one, every other year.
Being experienced is no requirement. This is my first time roleplaying in english and I have no problem roleplaying as a seer. The only thing you definitely need is the approval of your encyclopedia page and your ability application. Once all those are approved you are the race or have the ability you chose.
Multiple characters is a bit more complicated. Only one student profile is allowed, professors however have of course their professor accounts as well. Also there is a NPC possibility from time to time, so I have an NPC that goes to Ilvermorny. Those applications are closed at the moment.
I hope this helped you a little!

Hello and welcome to Hogwarts.io!
As @Opeila Seilun has given you answers in detail, I think I'll just add a few more points for clarification.
1. Opeila's right. There's no requirement for being an experienced RP-er or a native English speaker to apply for special talents like Parseltongue.
2. She has also stated that talents and abilities are separated. For abilities, sometimes there are prerequisites. For instance, to apply for Animagus ability, you must be at least a 5th grade student.
3. As for the pet snake you're interested in, I'm afraid that currently only characters with Parseltongue/Parselmouth talent. Please also note that at the moment, as far as I know, even this is still under construction. None of the Parseltongue students I know (OC) currently have pet snake to my best understanding.
4. Multi characters are strictly prohibited, except for nameless characters who simply pass by and thus have no big impact on your thread. There's some kind of creating a second character during the iNPC application, as Opeila has explained. However, please bear in mind that usually these characters won't be Hogwarts students, and it's also limited to 1 iNPC per user. Like your main character, it isn't possible to modify an NPC's name etc. This is not a required application. If you don't feel like creating an NPC, you're free not to do that and no consequence for it.
Hope this helps.

Both these replies really do help in clarifying stuff around the Parseltounge/Pet Snake area! Just to clarify in order to apply for a talent (ie Parseltounge) I'll need to finish my Encyclopedia before doing so? Or do I simply need to have a working Encyclopdeia page and an accepted ability application?

Thank you for clarifying @Elisabeth Erner
@Iris Crowe you need to be accepted in the official index. That means you need the basic post and the trunk post in your encyclopedia and you need to register for the index and get approved.
