Deep breaths.
That's what she had been telling herself for the past 10 minutes, to calm down. But her heart was still thumping as violent as ever, she felt that it would protrude out of her chest at any moment. Strangely, aside from the feeling in her chest and the pounding in her head, she felt numb, cold, a sense of dread, flooding her weak frame, jabbing at her insides. It was highly unwelcome, yet she could be rid of the feeling, it was almost suffocating her. She pulled herself together, tucking strands of hair behind her ears and roughly wiping the angry tears from her eyes. Standing up, she stared around the familiar room, this wasn't the first time she had used this place as a comforting refuge. Her fingers brushed the strings of a nearby guitar, yet this time she didn't take a seat and pluck a sorrowful tune, instead she strolled her way past most of the instruments and sat down on the piano stool, placing her fingers instinctively on the ivory keys. As she did so, she hesitated, feeling a sense of warmth tingle up the tips of her fingers, warming her gently.
She had sworn not to tell anyone. In any case, she hadn't been able to do so, it was too painful. Well, she guessed she had learnt about keeping secrets the hard way. Now a whole bunch of people knew and most of them were people Ariana wasn't even familiar with, not to mention her absolute worst enemy. It was all her fault. Underneath the sorrow, the uncertainty, the panic, there was a feeling of anger, malice. She wanted she hex the snake into oblivion, teach her what it was life to feel hurt like she had.
Furious tears escaped her eyes and this time she didn't bother wiping them away. Instead she leant back, willing herself to stop crying, gulping for air between sobs of despair. [hehehe I rhymed.] She gritted her teeth and picked up one of the music books at random, throwing the sheets onto the floor, one after the other until, wait, it was too late. The sheet of notes was sent cascading to the floor, Ariana dove after it, scrambling between the stool and the music stands to pick it up from the dusty floor. She stared for a moment at the familiar notes. She knew that song. It was one that Alejandra used to play on the piano herself, all the time. Ariana could almost hear the notes reverberate around her head.
She stood still for more than a moment, before abruptly turning to the piano and shoving the sheets in front of her, balancing them on the stand before she placed her hands upon the keys. Ready to play.
