The Slytherin common room, found in the basement of the castle, felt dark and dank to the Bellweather girl. It was awash with a green glow, like the entire room was bathed in envy, and she still wasn’t entirely sure that the Sorting Hat hadn’t made a mistake when it came to her placement. It just…didn’t feel right to her. Sure, she had ambition to be on top, but was that really enough to justify placing her in Slytherin? She had so many questions to ask, but before anything she needed to sadly inform her parents of the news. However, she didn’t feel like she could do it there in the darkness. So, she went to the one place she knew she’d feel at home.

The library.

Paisley carried with her an inkwell and quill, as well as an envelope, pieces of parchment, and her notebook and her Magical Theory textbook. She’d already finished reading through and taking notes over A History of Magic and Hogwarts, A History. The latter had certainly helped her become accustomed to the castle before she’d even stepped foot in it. Walking through the halls, she’d been able to identify where everything was and what had happened there. It sort of felt like she had her own little secret. Well, a secret that everyone else would know with due time. But until then, she figured she was one of the very few First Years in the school who had bothered to read ahead, so she was one step-ahead of the rest.

However, just reading about the Library hadn’t done it justice. When she walked in, her jaw gapped in surprise. Hundreds of rows of books, stacked high to the ceiling in their cases, spanned what felt like miles. Books flew to and fro, some flying to a new master, some back to their homes. The smell of old parchment wet the air and she took a deep breath, a small smile lifting the edge of her lips. Ah, home indeed.

Finding a corner in the back, the newly sorted Slytherin plopped onto the bench and sprawled her items across the table, effectively claiming it as her own. If someone were to ask to join her, she’d begrudgingly gather up her things to make room, but she really hoped they’d take the hint. She smoothed out a piece of parchment, feeling its course texture rub over her fingertips, before popping off the cork to her inkwell, dipping the tip of her quill in the murky black liquid, and beginning to write.

Selene didn't have anything of importance to do today. There wasn't much homework since they just got into the second year, and it's still the introduction stages on what we will be learning and reviewing this and that or what we as students did during the summer-which all of us knew. Good for Selene is that she actually took the time before school to get a spa-day, from one in the afternoon to eight in the evening. She really needed it after all that summer heat and distress-not to mention the sudden rumors going around her house about the fight-club, her house-Slytherin manage to get into somehow. It's not that Selene didn't care no-it's anything more than just a waste of time. She's just there for the rumors, every time there's gossip or rumor, then you'll know who started it or who was in the room where it happens. Selene's a trickster, a devious one in her own style, not much of a troublemaker one, no..a more fun one if you might want to call it. Unlike a certain ginger-haired boy who's popular amongst the big wide school. She had her eyes on many people, yet once they were no longer an interest to her, they will be nothing more than useless to her. Selene truly liked to read many books, of course, she had her own preferences. Although the only reason she's going to the library right now would be taking a nap, more naps mean more beauty sleep-although scientifically it could actually ruin your sleep. The school makes everyone go tired so it all makes sense for Selene to want to try and go to sleep every time she can, let's just be honest, school is tiring in general.

Second years huh? Time sure past so fast around here. It makes Selene believe that it's almost just a dream, for some, it might be-but for others, it could be a curse, getting dragged away from their usual life into one that seems so surreal just because of a percentage of blood inside you causing accidents here and there, and yet Selene wonders if one parent actually called an exorcist thinking their child is a cursed child from Conjuring and everything's a poltergeist-okay, she got a little too far. Selene stopped in her tracks looking at the window, the clouds looked very aesthetically pleasing today-yet the sun continues to sun brightly, blinding those two see through it..who would look at the sun directly? With the amounts of idiots running around the school, it might be common. Selene let out a troublesome groan, clicking her tongue and scratching the back of her neck as she continued walking. One thing to keep in mind every time you see Selene is that she always has sweets with her, always. Just watch her, she'll still have teeth shining brighter than the future itself.

Selene took one cherry-flavored Chupa Chups, as she opened the door to the library, good enough and apparently-the librarian seems occupied to not have noticed Selene walking inside. she then examined the place-perfect, not many people were here today, except from one girl who's sitting near the place she's used to taking naps in. Oh well, you lose some you win a few hundred, or as the saying goes. With her ponytail up high ready to slap someone-I mean ready to take a nap. Selene saw there were books sprawled out across the bench, the perfect bench where the sun hits the perfect spot and the view is so beautiful you can stare at it sideways-that is if you look at it sideways. The young girl took a deep breath, grabbing a couch pillow. Examining the trespasser of her holy realm-her bench. An underclassman, just a mere underclassman who was doing nothing more than writing and reading. Although something from the girl seemed familiar, aside from the fact both of them were wearing the same robes color-indicating that as a matter of fact, Selene did notice her at the sorting hat ceremony. The girl's name? Who knows there were new recruits joining this year it didn't matter to Selen, well some-half of the time she was eating food and stuffing her stomach to grow taller than she already is.

Selene cleared her throat, pulling out the chair silently as best as she could. Although it did end with her having to move out a few of the library books. the second-year made sure to put a pillow on the chair, of course, so that her no-no square wouldn't end up feeling flat as 2D objects. God, the last time she didn't use a pillow-couch her back hurt so much. she then crossed her arms on top of the bench, her head laying down gently-she stretched her body in such a feline-movement. As her head laid on top of the bench looking sideways through the window. Ah yes, freedom-something she craved for so much.

In the quiet space, all that could be heard was the soothing scratch of quill on parchment and Paisley’s soft breathing. It felt amplified in the still air, a patch of sunlight filtering down from the high windows and warming the young girl’s body. Her eyes felt droopy as the warmth and silence threatened to lull her to sleep. But, that was quickly extinguished as an older girl, dressed in a Slytherin robe, plopped down on the table side opposite of her. She pushed the Bellweather’s items aside without so much as a word before unceremoniously laying her head down on the tabletop, brown locks splayed further across her books and writing utensils.

Now, irked as she was, she could have ignored this slight. It did no good to fight with someone as obviously pig-headed as the preppy student across from her. But, when she’d sat down she’d startled Paisley and bumped the table. A violent scriiiitch sounded from her paper and quill as it was dragged across the parchment too roughly, the pressure causing a rip to form. She'd have to rewrite the entire thing, the whole front and back of her letter to her parents that she'd already been dreading writing from the start.

She stared at it, blinking for a moment before laying down her quill quietly. She stood up, gathering her notebook and book in a pile, raising them over her head, then dropping them on the table right next to the other with a loud ‘BANG’ that echoed throughout the library. When the girl would look up, she’d notice the First-year’s face was void of expression, her mouth relaxed in a thin line and her brows un-furrowed.

Running her fingers over the hard, worn covers of the books stacked on one of the shelves in the library, Jess exhaled in a slight sigh. In the frantic rush that had been getting to Platform 9 3/4 late and barely making it onto the train before it departed, rowing across the lake and seeing the grand castle called Hogwarts for the first time, barely being able to think through her nerves as she waited to be sorted, and being placed into Hufflepuff and eating with the rest of her housemates before being ushered off to sleep, Jess had barely had any time to relax and ease into the new, magical life that was awaiting her. Now, though, she was finally free to be in her element, surrounded by books and other students, studying or likely just as immersed in their novels as she intended to be in whichever story she was about to begin. A new book, a new adventure to be discovered, she thought to herself as her finger stuck on a particularly beautiful novel, its cover sleek and black and traced over with fine thin lines of gold. The book had no visible title, but opening the cover showed a summary that promised a tale of fantasy, romance, and betrayal. Perfect, Jess thought to herself as she walked over to a seat and plopped down into it, content with her book choice. Having just cracked open the cover and begun to read, Jess was distracted by the loud noise of a girl passing her, who was clicking her tongue loudly and seemed rather full of herself, if Jess was to be honest.
Now interested, Jess watched as the girl popped a candy into her mouth, then walked over to a table occupied by one other person and, without a word, brushed aside the other girl's belongings to lay down on the bench. Her eyebrows raised high, Jess stared as the girl who had been sitting there before glanced down at what she had been working on, then, with her face betraying no sign of anything other than utmost peace, picked up a large quantity of her books and dropped them next to the laying girl, sending a loud 'bang' to resound throughout the library. Hastily covering her mouth to keep from laughing, Jess stared down at her own book, her eyes wide. That girl would be fun to be friends with, she decided. She seemed independent yet sure of herself, someone who could probably be good for Jess and her opening up into a person far less shy and keeping to herself than she currently was.

It was peaceful and quiet-of course, that's the mandatory rule for a library. Selene was thinking through and through, about so many things in her mind that sometimes words weren't enough to describe. The sweet taste of candy as it dissipates like clouds in her mouth. Ah, to be a bitch. The memories of her being a first come to her mind like a flood, she smiled softly thinking about them, looking through the window. Sometimes she wonders if this is what childhood feels like, a momentary moment of peace, a carefree smile not caring about anything else like a faint nostalgia. 'Will this become a memory?' she asked herself, moments like this-oh so she cherishes. The awareness of knowing that this, in fact, will become a memory, Dès Vu. Selene let out a calm sigh, rummaging her fingers through her now untangled and free hair.

She was sure she was about to go back to take a nap, that is until she finally notices that due to her slightly pulling the chair a tad bit loud. The girl next to her whom Selene, placed her books closer to the girl to add more space, had to rewrite some research thing again. Oh well, you win some-you lose a few hundred. The girl, her underclassmen seemed to be a Slytherin. Ah yes, another one of the poisoned knives. Selene knows everything and anything about the series of chaos that surrounds the bloody school, let's not forget the hags incident that happened not so long ago. Selene couldn't care less of what was happening to the girl beside her, and nor was she in the mood to actually bitch about it much. If the girl knew who or what Selene's reputation is in the whole school, she would know that moment such as signs of vulnerability plastered in the face of the upperclassman, was rare. Selene couldn't help but furrow her eyebrows as the girl suddenly stood up. Selene had already closed her eyes, no she wouldn't click her tongue again she already did it outside of the library as she opened the door. Clicking tongues too often could result in tongue cracks. Selene should probably keep that in mind. She was about to go to sleep, you see, already closing her eyes as her breathing calmed down. She was already in a state of mind where the only thing her mind could see, was pitch black and a shining light that she'll always go through. Like finding a star in neverland.

BAM! The loud sound, the fucking surprise, it caused Selene's candy to break. Instantly, Selene stood up from her seat, she was a guarded girl and always will be. The many times she's been kidnapped due to family reputation and money could be considered outstanding. So with the sudden rush and a sound from the chair loud creaks. Out of reflexes and traumas of the past-as well someone disturbing her beloved nap. She immediately took out her wand from her pocket and pointed it right below the girl's chin. With glaring eyes, strands of her black hair shine with brown highlights shown. Did those many ties of kidnapping affect her? Of course, it had, it almost made her emotionless. Now she wishes she was emotionless. Selene mentally remind herself that being emotional was the weakest trait of all, yet, does that she was the best amongst the weakest? That is the question that remains not in her heart, but some chemicals in her brain. There were some ups and downs in being an upperclassman. The young girl's turquoise eyes examining the girl's features.

"I'll remember you."
She muttered under her breath like an unknown whisper. There was no sly smile nor a smirk coming out of the girl's lips, was she trying to be scary, no. Being scared would give off the impressions she was trying too hard. Besides she wasn't like the girl in front of her who literally had to disturb the whole library with her presence, just because? Really just because of Selene? Now isn't that just slightly a bit..too much? If it's just because of Selene unintentionally disturbing the girl while making some space for herself? This is a public library is it not? Sure, Selene moved the girl's books-wait no, the library's books without her permit but does it really matter? This bench was for everyone. Selene wanted to let out a sigh, but of course, she had to do it mentally, why? Misinformation and misunderstandings happen mostly due to body language and tone of voice, if she even let out a sigh the other girl would think of it as something. A poker face would suffice and handles it most of the time, by that she means showing no emotions so no misunderstanding and anyone annoying encounters. Having a resting bitch face naturally without looking like a baby does have its advantages.

As soon as Selene heard footsteps coming closer, that's when she realized that someone was staring at them and it felt like some was judging both of them. How did she know? She didn't have a sixth sense, nor was she good at evasion. She was merely used to it. Before the other girl could say anything else, Selene lowered her wand. Her attention was now not at somewhere else, but finding out if what her gut tells her is..correct. The girl grabbed the stick from her mouth. Threw it on the floor, as it shatters underneath her boots. Of course, the librarian suddenly had to show up and ask what's going on. Now, this really irked Selene-but, of course, it was better than dull moments. Selene glanced at the girl sideways, as she walked past her and spoke to the librarian. "Oh, it's nothing, Madame," Selene said with a convincing smile, not trying too hard, of course, Selene was a natural after all, and she'll forever be. While the librarian took a look around, Selene examined the big-almost empty space. With her cherry-lips clasped shut into a smirk. Before anyone, not even the other girl could notice nor the librarian, she found who or where the person is, as the other stranger's eyes linger on the scene. Selene took it upon herself to put her index finger on her lips, indicating for the girl not to be quiet-oh no, perhaps a threat? ah, more like warning-either ones the same. 'This is our secret.' She mouthed, knowing the person will understand it before sending them a wink, as she immediately puts her fingers down once the librarian heads back to their headquarters. Hey, Selene's registered as beautiful in the master list for a reason, veelas are way too much, besides she acts more like what a true veelas should be even if she isn't one. Nevertheless, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.

Just as she’d expected, the girl across from her jumped when the books smacked down. She stood bolt upright and, in a split second, Paisley felt the tip of the girl’s wand pressed against the underside of her chin. Her expression remained passive other than the rise of her brows, basically daring her to do something. Even though it was the beginning of the school year, there were still plenty of students around. Even if they were alone at that moment, there was no doubt that a few people would notice a flash of light and come to check it out before the preppy girl had a chance to escape unseen. Hell, there were probably even people coming to check now with the ruckus she’d made slamming her books down.

It seemed her assumption was right. Her possible assailant sheathed her wand quickly as the patter of footsteps approached, the librarian rounding one of the shelves to see what the noise was about. “Oh, it’s nothing, Madame,” the girl said as she moved to leave the library. The librarian looked to her next, brows lifted in question and the Bellweather shrugged. “Sorry, I dropped my books. I’ll be more careful,” she responded. The librarian hrumphed and turned, leaving the girl alone again.

Paisley sat back down with a sigh, picking up her ruined letter. She looked at it before frowning, crumpling it up and throwing it on the table. ”I’ll remember you,” the girl had said and the first-year mentally scoffed. Yeah, she’d be sure to remember her too. This who fiasco was why she’d known she didn’t want to be in Slytherin. They were so uppity, so sure they were better than everyone else and never considered others. Paisley never bothered anyone unless they initiated it. Her brother had always told her “Never start a fight, but if they start it, you better hit them just as hard”.

She settled, pulling out another piece of parchment, tipping the tip of her quill in her inkwell, then began writing from the beginning.

Jess stared as the older girl sprang up from where she had been sitting and pointed her wand at the other girl's neck, a clear threat. She whispered something, but Jess was too far away to hear what it had been. The loud click, click of somebody's shoes caught her attention, and Jess glanced to the side to see the librarian stalking past her, no doubt on her way to figure out what was to blame for the loud bang of the books earlier. Trailing her eyes on Madame Pince as she walked up to the table where the two girls had been sitting, Jess saw the older of the two hastily hide her wand and insist that nothing was wrong. The younger girl, too, seemed willing to uphold the tale, as she simply stated that she had dropped some of her books on accident. Irked that the older girl hadn't gotten any sort of reprimand for her rudeness and threatening of the other girl, Jess turned to glare at her stonily. With a pang of fear, Jess realized that the girl was already looking at her, as if alerted by some unseen force that Jess had been watching her beforehand.
She looked down speedily, hoping that she hadn't noticed her, but it was too late- the girl had already seen her. 'This is our secret,' Jess saw the girl mouth as she raised a finger to her lips in a silent message. Her heart pounding, Jess snapped her head back to her book, eyes looking but not seeing. Shit, she thought to herself. Now I've gone and put myself on that girl's radar... Sincerely hoping, although she doubted it, that the girl would forget about her, Jess fiddled with a corner of a page nervously. If the older girl had been willing to threaten someone just for dropping some books near her head, then she definitely wouldn't hesitate to make Hogwarts worse for Jess, right? Damn it... Jess thought again. With a defeated sigh, she closed her book and stood up, accepting that she had probably just made an enemy. And...the enemy of my enemy is my friend, right? Plus Jess had already thinking of becoming friends with the other girl... Slinging her bag over her shoulder, Jess walked over to the younger Slytherin, intending to try and forge some sort of alliance.

Once again, the sound of quill scratching on parchment filled the air, her free hand rising to tuck her hair behind her ear to keep it out of her face. If she hadn’t been interrupted she could have finished the letter by then and been on to studying. She had every intention of getting ahead in her course work, including the optional work. The fire that had been lit inside of her from a young age was a fiery, burning passion. She was determined, ambitious for a future where she was a top dog and there were certain, boring steps she had to take to get there.

The patter of footsteps could be heard again, the swish of robes fluttering in the air. She hoped, for a moment, that it would dissipate, but instead it grew closer and closer until it was right in front of her. Had the older girl returned for another piece? She looked up, brown eyes locking with brown instead of turquoise. A girl, about her age who reminded her a bit of herself stood there, though she looked timider. The Bellweather’s gaze shifted down to the other’s tie; A Hufflepuff. Well, that would explain it.

“Did I disturb your beauty rest, too?” she asked bluntly, quill paused above where her next word would be.

After Selene heard the girl scoff, she couldn't help but let out a quiet snicker. Once the younger Slytherin said that she'll remember Selene, her soft-lips curling more into a grin. "The feelings are mutual then.” She replied her tone of voice as sweet as an apple-laced and covered in poison. Yet her diamond-like eyes averted somewhere else, reflecting it’s gaze like a small dim star on the girl’s brown eyes, Selene always had her preferences for darker eyes-merely since it reminded her of her cool-uncle, but then her aunt got divorced, so really-you win some you lose a few hundred. Selene saw how the girl silently panicked. Selene wasn’t one to scare people away, no-she was one to lure them in, poisoning their mind with her sweet words and broken persona. Selene hated sugarcoated words, that is until she discovered the true meanings behind it, that it was a strategy.

‘The complimenters don't always formulate it so gently. For example, two years ago at the end of an arduous corporate project, slowly turning 1,000 red squares in a spreadsheet to yellow, then green, my office mate turned to me and said: "I thought you were a terrible ass-kisser when we started working together."

She paused and frowned. "But it actually helped get things done. It was a strategy." ‘

Selene looked both left and right, the librarian already doing whatever she was doing before. Of course, the whole inhabitants of the library were able to hear them but see the whole thing? Perhaps if they had the cloak of invisibility with them, lurking and admiring the view. Still looking at the Hufflepuff underclassman. She couldn’t help but tilted her head to the side, her grin fading thinking of how adorable it was of the girl’s reaction. The girl was right, in Selene’s eyes, she had found another prey. She glanced at the other girl, turns out she went back to writing-whatever it was she was writing before. Once the now fully visible lurker showed herself, making her way over to the stranger whom Selene did not know the name, she walked past her an aura of intimidation and the sweet scent of flowers and candy. The Hufflepuff girl could feel the eyes of a predate linger on her. Until the day Selene finds her useless and uninteresting, she will continue watching the girl in silence and behind the shadows, or just trying to find any intel she can of the Hufflepuff girl. “I’ll leave you to it~” Selene said to the girl, her voice above whisper-with the same tone of voice. The upperclassmen made her way towards the entrance of the library, pulling out chocolate cigarettes from her pocket, she took a mental note-not being careful, but to be prepared for the big alliance! @Jess Malters @Paisley Bellweather

With a sinking heart, Jess realized that the girl had picked up a quill and resumed her writing. Piecing this together with the girl's earlier placement of her books around the table, taking up the space so that no one else could sit, Jess figured that the girl probably didn't want to be approached by anyone. But she was already almost at the table, and to turn around now would mean humiliation from whoever might be watching her and the risk of having to face off against the older Slytherin by herself later. She took a deep breath and stepped up to the girl.

The Slytherin turned, and for a split moment, Jess hoped that she might have been wrong and the other girl would actually turn out to be friendly. "Did I disturb your beauty rest, too?" the girl asked, and Jess's heart sank. Somehow, even though she had understood that the girl hadn't wanted to be bothered, she hadn't expected her to be quite so...stand-offish.

"Oh!" she exclaimed, despite herself. With some interest, she noticed that what the girl had been working on earlier seemed to be a letter, though there were some textbooks scattered around as well. Then, realizing the girl was still waiting for a response, she looked back at her and blushed. "Sorry...it's just that I saw what happened earlier with that older girl, and I thought that the way you handled it was really cool...I probably would have burst out in tears if she threatened me like that, really." She paused for a moment, looking down. "Plus the older girl noticed me staring and basically said that I had best keep it to myself, or else...so I thought that, I don't know, we should make an- an alliance or something? Just so that neither of us have to- is that a cigarette?" she broke off, staring at the older girl as she walked out of the library.
