The Repercussions of Many Incidents
Night of the Blossom Ball, after having escaped the clutches of Mosp #15, Philipe.
He was...
Well... this wasn't the worst pain he'd ever felt...
Well, no scratch that, it was.
He wasn't even sure where he was, flying overhead into the darkness of the school grounds without much power left to fire his brain, to send messages- everything was muddled beyond what he could manage.
It was just one little sting, but-- he couldn't see.
Think, Charles, think through this. He urged himself, trying to keep a steady grip on the broom. How did we get here?
We.
Right, one Evelynn Decipio was behind him, clutching against his back.
His bare back.
Because he'd had quite the night, it seemed.
Down the list of things he was feeling: For one, his persistent headache which had started ever since he found that damned book, right after the match against Slytherin. He both abhored and treasured the information he found and it had been giving him an increasingly painful, jarring headache-- which he'd hoped to clear with a flight around the pitch. A pitch which had been infested with babies in dresses. It looked like an episode of Toddlers in Tiaras, which was on daytime television every now and again back home- and it made his headache worse.
Then he grabbed that stupid bug. Whatever had possessed him to strip and try and catch a massive Mosp was beyond his comprehension.
He was really cold, too, not to mention. It wasn't like the moors had warm spring nights like Texas did. It was nearly freezing, and his skin showed it, showed signs of struggle (he bruised easily, and that damned bug liked to thrash), and he was cold, and he had a headache, and... and there was a massive gaping hole in his thigh.
Right. The massive, painful, gaping hole oozing blood and venom. That happened.
He concluded the worst of it was not the pain itself- he'd felt worse when he nearly went into comatose with a broken leg, ragdolling down the river until a neighbor two miles up found him floating- but the sheer stupidity and embarassment. He was such an idiot!
Not only did he just- make some stupid show about how stupid those kids were when he himself was holding a BUG- but- now he was half naked, bleeding out and barely consience, and the only one to bear witness to it all was a girl he barely knew personally- but he'd KISSED.
He was HALF NAKED, and he'd YELLED AT THIS GIRL-- and THEY'D KISSED BEFORE!
You can bet your bottom-dollar that Charlie had not dared to say a word, at risk of crying, or saying something stupid, or hurting himself- who knows what he would have said in that moment, half delirious from pain and embarassment?
He felt terrible, as if he had room to cry- but he wouldn't, not in front of Evelynn, and he felt like he was going to be sick- the slow but sure dampening of his awareness was causing the broom to begin a gradual descencion- which became exponential as the ground beneath then became nearer and nearer. As if, in the pitch black of the night, they could have ever seen that- but it was coming at an alarmingly nearing rate.
Not quite enough to garner more injury to insult.
But the landing was terribly frightful.
He felt his weak, jelly-like legs come in contact with the tall grass of the rolling hills in the outskirts of the grounds, and then he was kicking up gravel-- and then he was eating dirt.
He nearly fell off the broom with an impressive roll, not enough energy to catch himself against the dark grass under the moonlight, leaving Decipio back near the now-crashed broom, while he stayed face-down in the grass, clutching to Decipio's fur shawl for fear of loosing it.
He'd done enough damage tonight, including this crash which he barely had recognised to be a crash- and loosing her shawl was not about to be added to that list.
Instead, he stayed laying down- faced buried in the grass, waiting for his "ball date" to ditch him in the darkness like the looser he was. It wouldn't be the first time he was left in the dust- and with all the stupid things he'd done, he wasn't sure why she hadn't left him the moment he yeller at her, besides the fact that they were stuck on a broom together- that is.Interacting with @Evelynn Decipio and given permission to Godmod for the crash.
I bid you adieu, until we meet again of course!

The Repercussions of Many Incidents
The pitch was quickly disappearing, the buzzing and the crackling of flame and fire fading in favour of the rush of wind that roared past Evelynn's ears. She'd only glanced back over her shoulder once, and only to ensure that no wayward mosps had decided to take up the charge and chase after them. Fortunately, it seemed to be that the two upon the broom were either of no interest to the ugly, bloated creatures, or they had rapidly out-paced them. Probably a combination of the two. Evelynn couldn't imagine there would be many beasts, magical or otherwise, that would be able to keep up with the speed of a Silver Arrow. How fortunate it was that Woodward happened to have his broom…
Speaking of.. The shifting of weight in front of her drew her attention from the dark silhouette of the castle against the crystalline, star-speckled sky. In lieu of his need for medical attention, Evelynn had managed to — for the moment, at least — get over her aversion to his half-naked state. The shawl of fur that she'd draped over his shoulders had certainly helped, providing at least some semblance of barrier between them. It wasn't his lack of clothing that had pulled back her attention on this moment, however.
"H-hang in there.." Evelynn had murmured, words likely whipped away to be thrown behind them the moment they had left her lips. It didn't really matter, though. They could fly in silence. Conversation wasn't needed. The nurse was. "H-hey…" she had stated a moment later, however. There had been something in the slackening of his shoulders that had set off a periculum within her mind. The slight downward angling of the broom a moment later only served to reinforce her worry. "Woodward," she spoke again, her tone concerned.
"Woodward!" there was a definite urgency in her tone as she repeated his name, shoulders and arm jerking to try to compel him to focus. "Come on! Please don't tell me you're losing consciousness.." she urged, almost pleaded, as the angle of the broom took a sharp and unintentional dive towards the ground. They were picking up speed now. "Woodw— CHARLIE, SNAP OUT OF IT WE'RE GOING TO CRA—"
The next thing she knew, Evelynn was staring straight up at a black expanse sprinkled with white flecks that seemed to flicker in intensity. The stars. It was a remarkably clear night. A slight breeze and the crisp spring air were refreshing, if a bit chilly, although that helped to disperse the haze of her mind and distract her from the throbbing pain at the back of her head. Wait.. Pain? Wincing as she plied her hand from its for some reason awkward position of being pinned beneath her to rub at the back of her head, she tried to push herself to a sitting position. Iron. She tasted iron. Why.. One hand still cupping the base of her skull, her other lifted to touch gingerly at her lips. Nothing. Her tongue prodded from within. Immediately she regretted it, a sting and throbbing pain erupting in her mouth to grant her the realisation that she had somehow bit her tongue. How…
It all came back to her in that moment. The ball. The escape. The crash.
"CHARLIE!" In a rush of adrenaline, Evelynn abandoned the assessment and inquisition of her own minor bumps and fished around for her wand. Thank God, she must have held onto it with a death vice grip as it was within easy reach, and miraculously in one piece. "Lumos!"
Immediately, the tip of her wand alighted in a soft white glow illuminating her immediate surroundings. She found herself on the side of a hill, perpendicular to its angle so that she somehow managed not to go rolling. Probably lucky that there'd been a hill at all, in fact. A crash to the flat ground might have been a might bit more painful. There was no fellow teammate to be seen, however.
"Charlie?" She echoed, pushing herself to a stand and brushing off her knees. Her wand was held aloft to the highest pinnacle above her head to wash the grounds as far as she could in its rays of light. A shadow of a form caught her eye towards the base. "Woodward?" she called out again, already having started making a quick descend down the slope. The figure wasn't moving, and as she neared, she could see that he was face-down in the dirt. Fear washed over her, her heart hammering hard in her chest. "Please, oh please, God, be okay… no no no… Please…" A string of pleas and hopes slipped from her tongue as she raced to close the distance, more than one silent prayer uttered in thought.
As soon as she got next to him, there was no moment of hesitation, no tentative poking or prodding. How many times had her mother walked her through this? She dropped to her knees, laid her wand next to her on the grass, and crouched over him. "Woodward," she spoke, trying to contain her worry. "Charlie, wake up!" she urged, one hand dropping to his shoulder to give it a firm shake, the other to the side of his neck, fore- and middle fingers curling around from the back to just below his jaw to feel for his carotid.

The Repercussions of Many Incidents
His embarassment, pain and shame was enough to keep him down, even when he heard the distant struggle of the girl getting up, calling out to him. From the corner of his eyes, he saw the simplest little twinkle of light, accomanied by a desperate call of "Lumos!"
There was a long pause as he assumed she took in their surroundings. It was hilly, he'd picked up, from the fact that he'd taken a nasty tumble down one of the dunes of grass and mud, a ways away from the castle in the pitch of night. And then she caught sight of him.
He'd never heard her call him 'Charlie.' It wasn't... why was she calling out to him? She could have just left him in the ditch like the loser he was, after all. Loser was... a brash was of putting it... but what else was there to say? He'd ruined it further- idiot, dumbass, screw up- really, the choices were endless with what Evelynn could label him as.
And then he heard the shuffle of her approach, running down the squelchy hill towards him. He stayed violently still, for fear of what she might do or say- expecting something akin to a kick in his back and a huffed "you absolute IDIOT, Woodward!"- not because he saw Evelynn Decipio as the kind of person to engage in that type of outburst, but from his own previous irrational fears and experiences- how past engagements had come to be- his own frights and terrors eating at him. But, that's not what happened.
He felt the presence of her visage beside him, kneeling down fervently as he pleaded to whomever or whatever might be listening, placing a hand on his shoulder to push him to the side, shaking him while checking his pulse- he thought he was dead.
He jolted at the contact, between a stage of grief and fear- pulling back before falling onto his back, yelping out in pain which shocked him up the side if his leg. He felt like a deer in headlights, staring at her with tears at the corners of his lower lids- threatening to drop down onto his cheeks and cast shine against the girls Lumos. Should he be happy she'd come down to check on him? That she was in a state of fear, praying and hoping he was okay? Should he have been relieved to feel he wasn't abandoned once again?
He didn't feel happy that she'd stayed- even more guilty, if anything, that the girl was now worried over his wellbeing- he deserved all the shit he'd just gotten, if not more-- she didn't.
His mouth was left agape for a long moment, unsure of what he should say in his hazy, guilted mind, feeling the consequence of his idiocy and misdemeanour weigh on his sore, bruised back. "I-I-- He barely managed to stutted, before he felt a hot trickle run down his head, between his eyes. He looked down at the ground where he'd landed, rockier than the soft grassy top- but he didn't feel too terrible. He must have cut his scalp somewhere.
It didn't help his migraine, but he knew he wasn't concussed, thankfully. He supposed sitting up cause the blood which had been dribbling out to feel the weight of gravity- although to Evelynn, that might have been a far more scary visual queue- hinting to a greater pain than that of his already throbbing leg.
"I-I'm sorry- Evelynn-" He managed to choke out. He never used her first name- it was always his stupid 'Miss Decipio' habit he'd picked up from his southern roots. "I'm s-so sorry- I- I lost co-c-control of the broom, my eye-eyes closed on t-their own, I-" His usual souther twang which came out in a smooth drawl was replaced by a panicked, pained stutter, accent lost in his wavering voice. "I-I- I'm so stupid-"
He looked away, letting his hand raise to touch the blood on his face, he didnt have any sleeves to wipe it with- so he let it be, drips falling onto his lap and fingers, eyes averted to the rock which he'd landed on, a small shine of blood at the tip of the sediment.

The Repercussions of Many Incidents
There wasn't even a chance to check for a pulse. Not that it became needed. The moment her fingers had made contact with his skin, Woodward had burst to life. Whether delayed, or a sudden revival, or who knew, but the contact had almost appeared to serve as an electrical shock. Almost violently, with enough of a reaction that it made Evelynn jump just a bit, he jerked away from the touch.
"Oh gosh!" Evelynn reacted, jerking back from him herself with arms freezing in position and fingers splaying wide before her. The entirety of her body became frigid through his movement as her mind processed what had happened, elbows anchored to her ribs, arms at right angles, eyes wide. The thump of his body onto his back with the accompanying groan of pain revived her after mere seconds, however, and she pushed forward on her knees, one hand swiping up her dropped wand. "You're okay," she breathed in relief, the statement both a reassurance to herself that he was actually alive, and also an uttered statement of calm to him.
"You're going to be okay," she repeated, as she inched near again, this time speaking entirely to him. The whites of his eyes and the way he gaped in the night left her with a sense of unease. He looked like he'd seen a ghost. Shock, maybe? "Wait," she murmured, lifting her hands again between them as though both trying to show she meant no harm and also trying to ease him to calm. "D-don’t move," she added as he pushed himself to sit up.
"It's.. It's okay," she tried to assure him as he started talking. Eyes flickered as the trickling appearance of a crimson stream drew her attention. He was bleeding. Not just from his leg anymore, but also from his head somewhere. "It's fine. I know.. It's okay. You're not.. Just.." She swallowed and took a steadying breath, slowly releasing it through pursed lips as he continued. He sounded like he was panicking, the cadence of his voice shifting into something she hadn't heard from him before. He needed to calm down. "Charlie, I'm okay. You're going to be okay, too, but.. Lie down, okay? Don't move too fast. You're bleeding. You're not stupid. You're hurt."
She had never realised how hard this was going to be. Her mother had run her through a few simulations. As had that first aid course she'd been insisted to take. But in those, the person was usually unconscious. And if they weren't, they were far more calm and bored sounding than they had any right to be, and would give no issue to receiving first aide care. She'd never considered a moment where she wouldn't actually be able or allowed to help — or at least try to — when it was needed, but looking at Woodward now, seeing the anxiety in his eyes and the way he seemed a little scattered, she wasn't so sure he would let her. It had taken a significant amount of effort not to just immediately jump in to try to find the source of the blood, or apply pressure to the wound on his leg that was now free to cause some major issues if they didn't deal with it sooner than later. But one of the first rules... get permission.
"Charlie, you need to get to the hospital wing.." she stated as calmly as she was able. "But we need to get you stable enough to get there. Or for someone to get here. Will you let me take a look? Please?"
She'd hunched back to sit on her heels, hands drawn up to rest, closed fisted, on her thighs. Her heart was racing, pounding in her chest. Teeth bit down onto her lip to provide her some sense of tactile stimulation to keep her senses anchored in the moment and to try to prevent any panic of her own from getting out of hand. If he had lost consciousness once, he could do so again. And who knew how bad his fall had actually been. Or her own, for that matter, but she was pretty certain she was in a far better state than him. Adrenaline was a mighty beast. And a double-edged sword.

The Repercussions of Many Incidents
They were both okay. Well, As okay as okay in this instance could allow. He was moreso relieved that he was the one who got a rather non-serious blow to the head, and not his passenger. That didn't stop his embarassment, however, given just how ridiculous the past few hours had been.
He listened, though. Each word that escaped her mouth hung in his head, her worry was enough to convince him that she wasn't upset with him, she was just concerned. More afraid for his wellbeing that his stupid choices.
Whilst a good part of his mind was foggy, unclear, dipping between the consious and the unconsious- he could tell where she was going when she instructed him to lie down. The long pause which followed, the look of thoughts and innerworkings in her pupils [i(]albeit shaded by the nighttime they were sitting in) told him that she wanted him to get help.
That, and the fact that she followed her concerned stare with the statement as such. 'You need to get to the hospital wing..' he gathered from the fact that there had been burning children at the ball; one stab wound and a minor concussion (at best) wasn't exactly anyone's priority. "I'll be fine... Evelynn, I think I can manage-" He breathed out in reply, finally, after her words ended in a ask of permission- disregarding her request for him to lay down in the grassy patch they had just crash landed in. "Be my guest to look, but I think I can make it back to the dorms... if I can just..." He struggled, reaching for his broom which was just out of arm's length, straining before finally grabbing the silver shaft from the creeping darkness around them. "-if I can get this stupid broom to work... I'll just... fly up to my dorm window and figure a way in. I'm sure one of my roommates will open the window..." Obviously, he had no intention of going to the hospital wing. The last thing his already-clouded and rather anxiously-riddle mind needed was to feel like a burden. He gave the broom a look, as if it had a mind of it's own to read his expression, and set it down next to them, frustratedly.
"I don't think I've got any brain injuries, it's just a cut on my scalp from the landing." He then reported. "I mean, I'm dizzy... but who wouldn't be? M-My leg's gone half-numb from that stupid bug... I'm tired... a-are you sure you're okay? He finally looked back up at her, stopping himself from rambling on as he tried to read her expression. "I-I'll be able to fly you up to the dorms as well... if..." He fumbled for words... "If you'd still get on a broom with me, of course. Although I-I don't blame you if you don't.. I'm not exactly a fantastic flyer apparently." He tried to cover his embarassment, and injury for that matter, with a forced chuckle at the end- feeling rather sorry for himself in the situation that they had gotten themselves into.
