Katrina was already bouncing with excitement. She was obsessively happy with her Scavenger Hunt Club. This Hunt was going to be a bit different than the last one because it was more of a race. She had set up the teams as equally as possible, taking into consideration each person’s strengths and weaknesses and created the hunt accordingly. She had spent several hours coming up with ideas and planning and setting everything up and now she stood in the middle of it all, playing through each clue in her head to make sure it all worked.

T minus ten minutes. Her puzzle was all in place. This time, the hunt wasn’t limited to a room. It was limited to the grounds. Her limits were the castle walls and the forbidden forest. Everything in between was in play. The Great Lake. The Pitch. The Greenhouse. The paths. And all of the trees. There were thousands of places to look around and only a few held the clues they needed.

Katrina raced back to the door, slightly red in the face after having come from all the way across the playing field. People would be arriving any minute now and she was more than ready to let the games begin. This time, the key to let everything begin was not a key, but a piece of paper with the starting riddle.

As soon as her entire group had arrived, Katrina began, “Welcome to the second ever hunt of the Scavenger Hunt Club! Unlike last time, this hunt will be in a much larger area. This hunt will also be split into two teams who will race to find all of the clues. This time I have Aurelia Notrésvace helping out. She will simply be here to ensure that everyone is okay and occasionally helping out if needed. Any questions?” Katrina paused for a moment to allow anything to be asked.

Katrina drew out a notebook and flipped to a page near the middle. “Alright, our teams are:
Team Blue: May, Mars, Bridget, Autumn, and Alan
Team Red: Ariana, Adonis, Taylor, Sapphire, and Evelynn

The coordinator paused for a second in case the teams wanted to split into their groups. “So, each clue is tailored to a specific trait that at least one person on your team has. I would recommend talking to one another to determine what the best tactic is. Along the way, I might initiate certain things so beware! Let the Hunt begin!” With those final words, Katrina would raise her hands and point into the yard.

Just kidding, you need to know what you are looking for,” With a mischievous wink, Katrina would hand May and Ariana different papers from her journal. “Now you may begin,”

This hunt is slightly different from the last one. This time, anything on the map is fair game. As the game progresses, more things will become labeled and more areas to search may open. For most of the clues, both teams will be doing separate things, you will not be able to see what the other team is doing or what clue they are on.

There may be occasional rolls for someone to spot a ‘hidden clue’ with a t!dice 1d20 roll. If the result is more than 18, you would have ‘found’ an extra clue. There will be an extra prize at the end for the team with the most ‘hidden clues’.

I did create each clue with a specific person in mind. A hint is that they are according to the application you turned in. (In case you are stuck)

There will be a prize for the winning team, so there is an incentive! For all spells cast, there will be rolling, however, most offensive spells will be auto failed unless said otherwise. Be careful to only use one action per round, stating it clearly at the bottom of each post. Please post once per mod post, however if you are unable to meet this criteria please shoot me an owl.

@Aurelia Notrésvace is there, however she is not open to interactions. She is simply there because Katrina can’t be in two places at once! 😊

If you have any further questions, do not be afraid to owl me or send me a dm on discord at Katrina Walker#3558.

Let the Hunt begin!!!!!

This was gonna be fun. May knew that her friend Katrina had organized a great Scavenger Hunt that wasn't going to be like the other ones. It was going to be the best one Kat had ever done. She run into the grounds and they selected players. Well, players no-she meant teams. "You know blue is my favorite colour?" she told @Alan Vanes as they got teamed up. A neutral friend she had met in the library, and to May's eyes, seemed quite shy. Well, how to say it...he rambled a lot.

Then, there was Mars, Bridget, Autumm, and herself. She got a little sad, because she hadn't been teamed up with @Ariana Walker but got over it quickly. At least she knew two people from her team. With trembling hands, she read the clue Kartrina handed her over.

May thought for a few seconds. The Great Lake! "It's the Great Lake guys!" she whispered to her team when she finished reading the clue to all of them.

She went to the Lake signaling them to follow her. If they would want, or only thought she wasn't right, they would need to stay behind and fins their own clue. Her blue eyes moved through the ground and above a few plants as she searched for the clue.

The letter had been dropped beside her plate at lunch and for the afternoon counting up to the hunt, it was all Ariana could think about. It certainly sounded worthwhile, a fun activity to pursue on such a lovely day! She made her way out onto the grounds, casting her gaze around for any gathering or setup. Her eyes found the familiar gryffindor girl [Katrina] and she made her way over, just as other people started to arrive.

“Welcome to the second ever hunt of the Scavenger Hunt Club! Unlike last time, this hunt will be in a much larger area.”

No kidding. The grounds seemed a much larger area to cover indeed, more complicated, but that wasn't really a problem. It meant more strategy was involved, more excitement. She listened carefully [for a change] to the instructions Katrina was dishing out.

“Alright, our teams are:
Team Blue: May, Mars, Bridget, Autumn, and Alan
Team Red: Ariana, Adonis, Taylor, Sapphire, and Evelynn”

Ariana had not yet become acquainted with many of the people in her group, but then again this was the chance right? She knew Evelynn though, of course; the girl was her quidditch co-captain. However, any other names from her group did not sound familiar to the young beater's ear.

“So, each clue is tailored to a specific trait that at least one person on your team has. I would recommend talking to one another to determine what the best tactic is. Along the way, I might initiate certain things so beware! Let the Hunt begin!”

Katrina raised her hands and pointed to the yard, before handing May and Ariana, papers from her journal. The gryffindor took it with a smile, casting her eyes down to the clue as she moved towards her teammates slowly.

One of you has a talent of art many have sought

The girl was generally good at this sort of thing, but this time round, her brain had seemed to take an unfortunate slump downwards. She stared at the paper blankly for a few seconds. "‘Go to the place growing much green’" she repeated, “What does that mean!” she muttered desperately. Motioning to her teammates for help, she offered them a smile, “I guess we are all working together,” She started enthusiastically, “Nice to meet you all, now let's make sure we win this thing!” She held up the clue so that they could read it. “Anyone have any ideas?” She asked. “It could be the quidditch training pitch, ugh, but ‘play me a tune’ what does that mean?” Her eyes strayed to the last line of the clue. It was an anagram, one that Ariana was sure didn't spell out ‘quidditch’ when arranged back to its proper form.

Afternoon on the last day of school was bright, clear, blue skies… a warm farewell and perfect send-off to summer from all the chaos of the year. What was even better was that in just a a couple short hours, the party that had been advertised in the Gryffindor Common Room for the last week would be kicking off. A last hurray before they all parted ways for a couple of months. But, there was still time before then, and what better way to spend it than roaming the grounds with a purpose?

It had come to Evelynn's attention just a couple days prior that a scavenger hunt was to take place. She was quite good at those, and adept at spotting things that did not belong and searching out the little things. It wasn't for no reason that she had been granted a position on the Quidditch team as seeker, after all. Even if it was second string. Plus, it would be a nice way to meet a few new faces, and get some fresh air and exercise. Not to mention, this seemed not to be an average scavenger hunt. There were clues involved, and she always appreciated a good intellectual challenge. Especially if she was to be competing against others.

With one last read over the invitation, Evelynn folded it back up and tucked it into a pocket. Just like the first time she had read it over, a smile crept onto her face. It was too perfect. The layout, the wording. How many of her peers, she wondered, would make the automatic connection of the five W's, and specifically the "Why: Why not?" to the Slumber Party invitation that appeared almost exactly the same. When she had made the effort to remain anonymous with the planning, preparation and set up of the event later that evening, she could not even have hoped for a better scapegoat. Yet, here it was.

Her good humored smile still lingering on her features as she arrived on scene a few minutes early, Evelynn waited quietly off to the side, nodding and offering small waves to those she knew when they arrived. Primarily Walker (who was a fellow Quidditch teammate) and Vanes (with whom she'd shared a particularly sensitive moment earlier that month). The rest were mostly familiar from class, but none with whom she had interacted to any significant degree. Still, she offered each of them silent greetings as well.

When it came time for the explanation of the game, however, Evelynn fell still, attention training onto the other Walker. The non-Quidditch Walker. The literal Walker as opposed to the flying Walker. Second game? Interesting. She hadn't realized this was a regular occurrence. A small amount of hope fluttered in her belly that perhaps the games would continue again when the next school year started anew and she'd be able to join them from their start. Evelynn shook her head 'no' when asked if there were questions, glancing briefly around to check for any who did have one.

As the teams were called out, Evelynn tempered a small grin. Red Team. Gryffindor, hair, accenting colour of choice… it was her colour. Too perfect. "Best of luck Vanes," she called out to him, her tone a touch sing-songy with its confidence. Already, she could feel the kindling of her competitive spirit, grey eyes alighting with an eagerness to go forth and conquer. "Walker!" She continued, greeting Ariana properly. "Looks like we're teamed up for more than Quidditch."

As the last little bit of the explanation was provided and small slips of paper handed out, Evelynn shifted her stance to come abreast of Ariana, neck craning to read over her shoulder.

"Seems simple enough," Evelynn replied to Ariana as soon as she'd finished reading. "Go to the place growing much green.. I can't imagine that'd be anything other than the greenhouses. And it asks to play a tune sharp and clean, and then gives us the notes…" She continued, pointing out the G G D D E E D at the bottom.

As she did, she hummed them out. It seemed her talent with a violin wouldn't be going to waste. The notes had jumped out at her right away as though she were about to do a few warm-up scales. Another thought had jumped into her mind as well. Primarily, the image of an ocarina. This task, to play a short little quip of music near what she could only assume were the greenhouses, felt like it was taken right out of Zelda.

"It's Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, by the sounds of it." Glancing up, she looked to the other members of their group. "Does anyone happen to have an instrument on them? A recorder or a flute or something? Sharp and clean would be hard to do with voice, I think."

And, unless anyone stopped her, she'd begin to do just as she suggested should be done, and make her way over to the greenhouses, walking backwards at first until she was assured that the rest were coming, before about-facing. All the while, she was keeping her keen eye peeled for anything out of the ordinary.

It was a little weird, making her way out onto the Grounds for a club on the very last day of the school year. All her belongings were already packed save for the clothes on her back and the wand at her belt. Bridget took longer than usual to make her way outside, pausing to brush her fingertips against the stone walls, stare into the rooms she practically lived in, and hold a short conversation with those few portraits she liked. It wasn't goodbye, of course--she'd be back in two months--but she'd miss the place.

Arriving at the start of the Scavenger Hunt a little later than planned but still on time, she sent a quick wave and slightly nervous smile Katrina's way. It wasn't the hunt itself that worried her--from a very young age she'd loved jigsaw puzzles and solving riddles, and nowadays it seemed their whole time at Hogwarts was filled with one big mystery. The collaboration was the uncertain part. Sure, she'd worked on teams before. Bridget was a member of the Slytherin Quidditch Team, for goodness sake. But she knew her teammates. With strangers it was different.

The only person she was somewhat comfortable in working with was Alan; the other three she didn't know. She was here to support her friend's club, though, maybe sharpen her investigative skills, not stress over who she had to do that with. She stood silently, arms crossed, as either May, Mars, or Autumn, she had no clue as to which, read off their first clue. One eyebrow raised slightly when the reader declared it was the Great Lake with so much excitement, but that was the only outward sign she'd even heard anything. Her brain was where the action was. Obviously it was the Great Lake. What else was wet and blue? Interestingly, the girl hadn't even mentioned the second, much bigger part of the clue at all.

Clearly once they got to the lake they'd have to do some sort of art. The clue seemed to be referencing just one person. How would Karina even know who was good at art, then? It made sense in her case, with them being friends and all, but certainly the Gryffindor didn't know all of them. Therefore, the only way she could know that kind of information was the application to the club, in which she had asked specifically for their skills. And Bridget was pretty sure she recalled putting down 'artistic'.

No need to announce that just yet, though. Presenting theories without conclusive evidence would only serve to limit their thinking. It was best to assess what awaited them at the lake before jumping to any conclusions. Picking her way over to the water's edge after the first year, she remained reticent, at least for now. Only if her group started asking the wrong questions or was missing information she possessed would Bridget speak up.

"Hey Katrina, th-thanks for the invite!", he would chirp upon arrival on the grounds, smiling at the girl who had set all of this up. He was quite curious about how this would go and listened as they were sorted into teams. Alan knew all but one of the students in his team and was determined to change that quite quickly. He walked over to the unfamiliar girl [Autumn] and held out his hand for her so that she could shake it if she wanted to. "Hey, I'm Alan," he would introduced himself in his usual soft manner with a kind smile playing on his lips before he would face May who had gotten their first clue. "I actually didn't know th-that, you never mentioned it before," he would let the girl know with a chuckle as he peeked over her shoulder to read the clue himself. In an instant he already knew that they had to go to the Great Lake for this one so he nodded when May mentioned the solved clue.

"Let's get going th-then," he agreed as he would go along with May. Tiger who had joined them for today's activity was quickly following, sensing this to be some sort of game as he tried to catch the tied shoe laces from his red sneakers. It was something the grown kitten likes to do when bored and Alan was quite sure he did that to tease the Gryffindor which made him chuckle in amusement as he quickened his steps to keep up with May and his team. "Hi," he would mutter a greeting to Bridget with a light smile, a little nervous perhaps. The two of them did not interact much so far and he mostly knew her from the Out of Range game. However he was happy to have her on his team.

The sun was as bright as always for an afternoon at Hogwarts, even if it was the last day. Mars was glad for it, glad for it and the soft breeze that carried the sounds of their little group through the air. It was something to focus on, something to distract from the reality that they so wanted to avoid. Apparently, the gods had felt benevolent for once, because Katrina had scheduled the second SHC Hunt for this afternoon and had decided that it was going to be outside. Mars could kiss her—on second thought, no that wasn't something they wanted to imagine either.

Forcing their own idiotic thought train away, they turned to their own subgroup of the people in the Scavenger Hunt Club. Katrina had nicely outlined teams, something that Mars was half-grateful for and half-dreading. There was no telling how easily a group of people might mesh. Luckily, they weren't a complete fish out of water. Two of the present wixes were familiar, Alan with Tiger at his feet and May looking as eager as she had for the first hunt. But the other two, Mars had never seen.

They walked over to the two witches with hands in their pockets, still feeling the dredges of exhaustion in their shoulders. It turned out that being let down zapped a lot of your energy. Shaking it away and plastering on a smile, Mars extended a hand to each of them respectively.

"Hey, I'm Mars. Don't think I know either of you, but seeing as we're on the same team, introductions seem to be in order," they quipped. The silver heart they'd taken to wearing on their lapel since the Pride Errand glinted in the rays of the sun, its black "They/Them" lettering winking out from underneath. Whether or not the girls returned the handshake or noticed the pin was up to them, but Mars dropped their hands directly after, turning as Katrina handed May their first clue.

The Hufflepuff gave it a once over and then, the excitement shining in her eyes, whispered, "It's the Great Lake guys!" Mars blinked, taking in the clue. Well, that assessment made enough sense. Wet and blue... a lake certainly fit the bill.

Mars wrinkled their nose. Hopefully, whatever artwork it was didn't have anything to do with getting into the water. Swimming had still not grown on them at all. The wix thought over the clue as they followed May, Alan, and one of the other girls towards the lake. Katrina had said that each clue was tailored to a specific person... an artist then.

"Any of you an artist?" they asked lightly, kicking away rocks as they continued walking.

Autumn remained quiet, and looked around to her team. Something Vanes, something Collins, May Moonstar, who she had seen around in the Hufflepuff common room before, and Mars T'ien, who Aeri had mentioned through their letters.

As she went through them, she suddenly realised Mars looking at her expectantly with her hand raised. Autumn, awkwardly, shook it, and turned away, making sure to note the "they/them" silver heart. Nobody was going to be misgendered on her watch.

She muted out the group as she looked around at their surroundings. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary.

Katrina spoke, and Autumn listened without comment, giving the occasional nod. As someone from her group took the hint out of Walker's hand, she got on her toes, and tried to read. She could make out the words "create", "to", "very next", which did not give her much to go off of. She then read "wet", and "blue", and thought immediately "water", which made her remember the Great Lake.

Before she could speak, though, her team began scurrying, and Autumn, hoping they were going to the Great Lake, followed silently. She stayed at the back of the group, looking around once in a while, for no specific reason.

"Anybody here an artist?" she heard Mars speak up.

Autumn's voice came out raspy, due to having kept silent for basically the entire day now. She was an introvert who was having an antisocial day, it was no big deal, but her voice sounding weird did annoy her.

"Well," she spoke, "I write, sing and act, and singing and acting are performing arts and writing is literature which is art, so, technically, yes. However, I believe you meant visual arts, in which case, still a yes; I draw. What about you?"

She remembered to actively hide the fact that dance, which was also a performing art, was something she enjoyed and did often.

It had only been two days ago that Adonis had received a letter that was actually an invitation, which was left beside his plat during lunch while in the Great Hall. Adonis had read it then and there on the day he got it and wasn't sure what to think of it at first but then after awhile he got excited about it. Himself and nine other members this time, huh? Two teams as well? It seemed this second scavenger hunt was going to be two times bigger than the first one. Adonis was straight hyped for this scavenger hunt at this point. This was also supposed to happen quite literally on the day before they left Hogwarts for the summer. He didn't mind it though. Anything to give them one last bit of fun before they left for the summer was perfectly fine by him and he would gladly join.

As the day that they were meant to convene on and do the scavenger hunt had finally came around, Adonis excitedly made his way over to the grounds to get this scavenger hunt started. He was ecstatic and ready to hopefully beat the other team at this game. Losing was not part of his gameplan nor his mindset for the scavenger hunt. No surrender. The boy greeted those around him with his charming smile and a wave upon his arrival before focusing his attention on Katrina to listen to what she had to say.

After everything was said and done and the teams were left to fend for themselves, Adonis instantly turned towards the others. Don looked over Ariana's shoulder to read what it said, trying his best to make sense of the first clue that was given out to them. "Agreed. I think it's the greenhouse and I assume the 'play a tune sharp and clean' are most likely meant for a flute. I can sing but shoot I can't reach that high unlike the woodwind instruments. So, not me unfortunately." He shook his head and looked over at Sapphire and Taylor.

SHOWING EMOTIONS WASN'T SAPPHIRE'S THING, but scavenger hunts were exciting shit, and her sister had probably noticed her happiness. Of course, she may have just assumed it was excitement about getting to return home, but that wasn't the case. On the day before they all got to go home, she would be participating in her second scavenger hunt. She'd enjoyed putting her wits to the test in the last one, and she was apprehensive about this one.

When it was time for her to go down to the entrance of the school, she practically ran out of the castle, keeping a quick jogging pace as she turned up second. She bounced on the balls of her feet, sleeves of her worn hoodie rolled up to her elbows. She would probably have to take it off later, but she wouldn't yet. She was clearly excited, though her expression didn't betray much of that. She didn't have the dead-eyed look she normally did, but her expression wasn't a smile. She didn't really know many of the people, other than the ones who'd been at the last scavenger hunt. May, Adonis, Mars, and Katrina were the only ones that she'd ever seen/interacted with. The people she'd interacted with most were Katrina and May, and more so Katrina. She'd only talked to them once (separately), but her interaction with Kat (was it okay for her to call the lioness that?) had been considerably longer.

She was a little relieved that she was teamed up with someone she'd met before, even though they hadn't really done much interacting. She headed over to the rest of the group, since she'd been hanging out on the edges of the gathering. She looked at the paper that was held by another girl, reading the words quietly under her breath.

One of you has a talent of art many have sought
Not on paper as you might have thought
Go to the place growing much green
And play me a tune sharp and clean
G G D D E E D

She listened to what Adonis had to say about it, as well as the girl with grey eyes. "I agree that it probably has to do with the greenhouses," she said, words flowing smoothly and quietly almost without consent from her mouth, "And I'm able to play flute." She was a bit shy about her musical abilities, never really broadcasting it. Shyly, she followed Adonis and grey-eyes towards the greenhouses, fiddling with the strings of the hoodie.

It would take quite some convincing to get her to get her to come out of her shell, since she didn't have anyone who knew her - or whom she knew - to convince her. She hoped that she would be able to be a little better with these people, but she was going to be an antisocial, awkward teenager like she was until then. She ran a hand through her hair as she walked, sighing to herself as she walked. Will I sink or swim?
