Tallis had seen the Great Lake many times, of course by boat and just passing by. It had always interested her and so today was the day she decided that she would spend her break time next to it. She went around trying to find a secluded and quiet place to, not really, hide in. She soon came across a tree surrounded by bushes and bramble and decided that this place was perfect. She carefully crawled through the bushes, she ended up catching her arm on one of the few thorns. She winced but was able to get through with out any more injuries. She laid back against the tall tree and sighed. She had always loved the outdoors, nothing could judge her or ridicule her. Everything was at peace, the wind rustling the leaves, and the gentle sound of the lake as it moved. She tucked her hair behind her ears so it didn't cover her face for once. It didn't really make a difference, she couldn't see out of the eye that was usually covered but she did get tired of her hair always covering her face. She looked around, smiling slightly as she watched the lake's waves go up and down, round and round. She leaned back sighing contently, and started to hum. It was called Alouette which was a french children's song. Her dad used to sing it to her all the time when she was little and it always reminded her of home. Of course, she knew the song was a bit dark because it talked about plucking the feathers off of a bird but ring around the rosie, a very common children song, was a possible reference to the black plague so you know songs could be deceiving. She continued to hum the song, closing her eyes and relaxing.

Lyra, as usual, was walking around the Lake with her nose in a book. The Ravenclaw had spent much time exploring the surroundings of the Hogwarts Grounds, and the Great Lake was no exception. Near the water were clumps of brambles and bushes, which few students walked to, out of fear of being hurt, presumably. She was currently reading what was, in her opinion, a masterpiece 'Un Sac de Billes', a nonfiction account of two kids during the Holocaust. Lyra usually disliked nonfiction and refused to read it, however, some historical accounts were so interesting and well-written that they might as well be fiction and were as interesting as the latter. This book was originally written in French, which is why the first-year chose to read it in that language, although it has been translated to English as well.

As she was walking by the aforementioned clumps of brambles, someone was humming a tune that made her crouch to the ground, trying to hear more. It was a French (and perhaps Canadian, she didn't remember) folk song 'Alouette', which was one of the first tunes she had learned on the piano. Hearing that the person was at the chorus, she very softly sang along. Singing was not something Lyra was very talented at and it was definitely not a skill of hers, nor one she showcased. However, she didn't think that anyone could hear her, so why not? "Alouette, gentille alouette, alouette, gentille alouette. Je te plumerai la tête, je te plumerai la tête" the first-year softly sang, trying to recall the lyrics. At this point, Lyra was sitting right outside of the brambles where she was sure someone was.

Hi, I know it's been a while since you made this post, is it still open for interactions?

Tallis had been sitting against the tree for awhile and when she got to the chorus finally while humming. As she started humming she heard something or someone singing along side her humming. She wasn't sure who it was but decided that she would finish. She heard the singing get slightly louder and assumed that who ever it was had gotten closer. Once Tallis finished, she went quiet. She quickly covered her blind eye with her hair and debated whether or not she should come out from her hiding place. She crawled over to the spot in the bramble from where she entered, still debating whether or not she should go out or wait until whoever was around left.
She put her hand up to clear away some of the bramble, once again catching her hand on one of the thorns. She winced but kept going forward, eventually poking her head out and looking around. She eventually found a girl, a Ravenclaw from the looks of it, with semi - long brown hair. Tallis wasn't sure what to do, she wasn't great with people and somewhat froze. She wasn't sure if the girl had noticed her yet and she wasn't sure what she would do once she did so she just kinda stayed where she was.

As the hummer stopped humming, Lyra heard rustling and saw a figure emerge from the brambles, most likely the person she had been harmonizing with. Noticing that the girl's hand was slightly bleeding and that her attire was a little dirty, the Ravenclaw stood up and offered her hand to her, waiting for her to take it.

The girl seemed to be a Hufflepuff, and her hair was hiding one side of her eye, which Lyra immediately made a mental note of, although she carefully kept her face blank of emotion. This was a habit Lyra had. Whenever the girl encountered people she hadn't met before, she tended to make quick mental notes on who they were, or who they seemed to be. Aas a Ravenclaw one of her leading traits was open-mindedness so she would never dream of judging anyone based on their appearance or first impression but she still chose to be aware of certain things. Plus, in all honesty, it was a rather fun game to play with herself and see how accurate she could be. It also helped her develop a good poker face and remain polite whenever the first-year met people.

Anyway, as this little game was going on, and waiting for the girl to accept her hand, Lyra dipped her head in accordance to her grandparents' culture. Well, in their country you were supposed to bow, but not in England, so the brunette went with a slight bow of the head instead. "Nice to meet you, I'm Lyra."

Tallis watched as the girl who had been singing got up and offered a hand to her. Tallis flinched and looked nervously at her, she wasn't use to these kind of things and was hesitant. She watched as the girl slightly bowed her head and said, "Nice to meet you, I'm Lyra." She wasn't sure what to do but decided that she might as well introduce her self as well. She worked up the courage and quietly said, " I..I'm Tallis, Tallis Oblidge. " She took Lyra's hand and pulled herself up, as she stood up she quickly looked up at her and said a quiet thank you and quickly looked back down at the ground.
She twiddled her thumbs and noticed one of her hands were bleeding. She quickly hid it behind her back and glanced back up at Lyra. "Um... were... were you the one who was singing," Tallis questioned her, slightly nervous, people usually didn't like it when she questioned them. She waited for the girl to answer or maybe yell at her, as she nervously played with one of the strands of her hair. "I...It's ok if you were, y...you have a pr...pretty voice," Tallis told Lyra carefully and slowly, wondering how she would react.

Lyra listened as the girl, Tallis, introduced herself and complimented her voice, all in a pretty shy manner. She wondered if Tallis had a stutter, like herself, or if she was just extremely nervous when meeting new people. ‘The best way to put her at ease would be to answer calmly and not make sudden movements, similar to when approaching an injured animal.’ After that reflection, the Ravenclaw nodded and said “Yes, it was me, I used to play that on the piano. I really don’t sing much out loud because my singing voice is not something to be proud of, but thank you I suppose. You have a pretty nice voice yourself.” ‘Wow, okay, I said that whole thing without stuttering once. I’m getting better!’The first-year told herself.

“Aa- are you a Hufflepuff?” ‘Great, I jinxed it. Good job Lyra, I’m real proud of you.’ The brunette sighed quietly in annoyance, still cautious about making Tallis feel comfortable. While this exchange was taking place, a couple of leaves had made themselves at home in the other girl’s hair, and Lyra waited to be able to brush those away; conscious that if she did, Tallis would flinch or feel uneasy.

Lyra asked your house because not all students wear robes outside of class and I’m not sure you specified what you were wearing.

Lyra explained to her that she was the one who was singing and that it wasn't anything special and then stayed quiet. After some time passed, Lyra somewhat stuttered and ask if she was a Hufflepuff. "Y...Yes, I...I am a Huffle...Hufflepuff," Tallis told her, nervous, "and y...you are a Raven...Ravenclaw right?" She still wasn't use to talking to people, and still had the same fear she had when she was little. She looked up at Lyra and then quickly looked back down at the ground, not sure what to do next. She had never been very good and conversations, especially around people she didn't really know.

She started to play with a strand of her hair to help with her nerves and would occasionally glance back up at Lyra. "I...um... I'm sorry if I...if I both...bothered you," she told her, not sure what to say, but for some reason felt like she should apologize. She prepared herself to get yelled at or maybe even hit, because that was usually what happened, or at least what used to happen. She had never really gotten out of the habit and really had no idea what to do. "S... sorry," She said quietly, once again.
