Jake,
I have noticed a new Errand taking place involving Make-up and face paint, I believe? It reminded me of when we made you a tiger back in the bathrooms and how happy it made you.
I was wondering if you maybe wanted to join me for that tomorrow in the Courtyard? It might be fun, and if nothing else we‘ll get some chocolate frogs out of it, right? Send me an answer back with this owl to let me know if and when to meet you if you would even like to come with me. You don‘t have to come, of course but I‘d like it if you did but I thought it might be something you‘d enjoy.
If you are already planning on going with someone else I understand, of course.
I only wanted to ask.

Jake looked down at the letter, shocked when he saw who had signed it. Ruka had sent him a letter? Ruka was inviting him?
Things had been hard lately. Jake hadn't been feeling well at all. He hadn't been sleeping, he'd barely been eating. And the fits of homesickness that he'd been afflicted with throughout his first month at school had returned worse than ever, with an ever-present fear that any moment something would go horribly wrong.
But there had been one bright spot, and that had been the day in the bathrooms with Ruka and George. That had been a reminder of what it felt like to be happy again. To feel whole.
It was always nice when a bigger kid (a kind one, anyway) gave you attention, but Ruka wasn't just any bigger kid. He barely even looked bigger if you just saw him, but once you talked to him you saw just how big he really was. He was brave like most Gryffindors, but he was smart too, and he knew more about about animals than anybody Jake had met. Not just facts, but the really important stuff - like how to take care of them. There was a lot about him that Jake wanted to be like.
Could Ruka have maybe sent the letter to one of his other friends by mistake...? But no, it talked about the face paint so it was definitely undoubtedly for Jake. Even though excitement wasn't something he had felt lately, the boy felt the beginnings of it now, along with a sense of specialness and pride. He hadn't been going many places lately that he didn't have to go to, but with a letter like this...
He sat down to write his reply, making extra sure there were no mistakes.

Hi Ruka,
I was happy when I saw your letter. You are right about the tiger. I showed everybody in my dorm and they said I looked really cool. I was sad when I had to wash it off but you could still kind of see it the next day. George said I was like a ghost tiger.
That errand sounds really fun. I am not going with anybody. I didn't even know there was a face paint errand. You are the first person to ask. I don't think my other friends are even going. George has another errand tomorrow anyway. And I don't think Jack would like face paint. You would really let me come with you? If you are sure I will come. I am really happy you asked me. Thank you very much. I can just go to the courtyard near the big tree at 1 PM after lunch if that time is ok for you. I have something that I want to show you.
Oh yeah and I would really like a chocolate frog. Some of the boys in my dorm have toads but I'm not allowed to have a pet yet.

So glad you would like to come along! After lunch is good for me, I have no other plans tomorrow so we can take our time at the errand. I'm not sure I could make you another tiger but we can figure something out. I'm still very new to face paint.
I don't have a pet either but that's okay. Our chocolate frogs will be great and tasty and we can let them jump around until the spell on them wears off. Much cooler than a toad anyway if you ask me!
I'll meet you by the big tree after lunch tomorrow then.
