Percival had spent the majority of his free time after dinner lightly playing the guitar. It was something he liked to do often, and today he had enough courage to sit in the courtyard.

Usually, Percival, shy about his ability to play, would play near the lake. Since there were not many people who would go there.

Though today had been an exception, and he had spent a good thirty minutes playing. When he felt like he had played enough the boy stood up from his position.

The boy had left his guitar case upstairs in his dorm room. Though he decided it would be fine as long as he made sure to be careful on his way back.

Percival never had trouble holding his guitar carefully.

Seeing how the guitar was a very precious item to him. It had been his Uncle Terrence's guitar that had been given to him as a present.

The amount of sentimental value he had was large, and he didn't want to think about the guitar every being hurt.

The guitar was being held in between his two hands. With the strap wrapped around his shoulder to keep himself from dropping it.

Percival stepped through one of the many arches not seeing another student headed straight for him.

Dealla was running - no, flying - through the many corridors of Hogwarts. The hour was getting late, and she had already been up in the Ravenclaw Common Room, enjoying a relaxed Friday night and the knowledge that she wouldn't have to get up for classes tomorrow, when she had realized something: She had forgotten a book down by the lake this afternoon. And not just any book, a library book. If she managed to lose that, or damage it, she'd probably be banned from entering the library again - ever.

Hence, Dee was currently sprinting through the castle at full speed, around corners, down the stairs, into the Entrance Hall, out of the door into the Courtyard, through one of the arches - and directly into some poor soul who had probably enjoyed some time outside after dinner and was currently on their way back in.

It was still light at this time of the day in Scotland's summers, where real darkness was next to non-existent, but the sun was still nearing the horizon, sending its golden rays in from the side and shining through the arches of the Courtyard.
It was pretty, certainly, a warm and flattering light that made everything look like it was bathed in molten gold, but it was also rather blinding from this angle, and made it impossible to keep one's eyes open. Maybe, just maybe, it would have been smart to slow down a bit, to give her eyes some time to adjust to the light - but she hadn't.

So instead, Dealla went barrelling straight into the boy who had been so unfortunate as to cross her path, and she sent both of them tumbling to the ground in a tangle of limbs and - wood?
She couldn't be completely sure, because it had happened while she was busy trying to shield her head from knocking into the stone floor, but she thought she had heard the characteristic sound of wood splintering, along with the discordant twang of strings being pulled in ways they hadn't been meant to.
Dee felt slightly dizzy when she sat up and looked at the blond boy she had so skillfully knocked down. "Hi, sorry about that," she said slowly, shading her eyes from the sun to see him better. "Are you okay?"

Percival was never one to rush through the halls to try and get to class or his dorm on time.

The boy was clutching the guitar by its neck. The body of the guitar only held up by the guitar strap.

Percival's hand slid up and down the neck of the guitar feeling the tiny grooves that set it apart.

It was not uncommon at this time to hear students racing down the hall. Not only a short while ago, he had seen a boy race past down the hall.

So when the boy heard more running steps he did not think twice about it. Percival walked through the archway looking away from the other girl as he did so.

In his mind, whoever was running had to be on the right side of the hall.

It did not even cross him that he may have just stepped into the path of the other student.

Percival felt a hard force crash into his back and he ended up letting out a surprised cry as he fell forward.

Reflexively, his hands shot out straight to try and protect his head from hitting the stone floor of the corridor.

His hands scraped against the hard flooring causing them to sting as if a thousand bees had just stung his poor palms.

The boy's wrists jolted as they connected with the floor causing pain to warmly radiate up to his left wrist. Which was caused by Percival putting his left wrist slightly out more than his right to catch his fall.

Percival heard the splintering of wood and the loud snap of the strings of the guitar.

The twang resonated down the hall loudly as it did so, and Percival could feel the force of the strings snapping when the sudden vibration hit his chest.

The boy stayed on the ground even as the girl sat up. He was frozen as he tried to process exactly what just happened.

His chest ached as he slowly came to the realization that the guitar was broken.

Percival sat up slowly ignoring the other as he did so. The fretboard had been snapped in half held together by only one string.

The lower bout had a sizeable hole in it where the boy had fallen against it at a weird angle.

"My guitar!" he yelled out horror slowly seeping into his gut. His precious guitar was broken, splinters of the guitar were now on the floor.

The boy had promised his Uncle he would take good care of the guitar. It had been his Uncle's guitar, and there was no way he would let it come in harm's way.

Yet, the guitar was clearly destroyed at the moment. He had failed to keep his promise.

Percival grit his teeth before clenching his fists as he did so. It wasn't his fault that his Uncle's guitar was now broken. He could have carried it back to the dorm unscratched only if that girl had not run into him.

Percival stood up quickly and whirled around to look at the student who had run into him.

"You ####### dumb###!" he snapped the boy leaning forward slightly to the other.

Percival's arms were slightly behind him as he glared at the other.

The guitar hung sadly up by the guitar strap, and every time the boy moved the strings groaned at the abuse.

Dee was still busy blinking the dizziness from her vision when the boy was already on his feet, holding what was obviously a broken guitar. Which had... probably been broken because of her. Oops.

Dealla rose to her feet a little more slowly, and a small twang in her ankle along with a slight burning on her elbow which had scraped along the floor during the fall revealed that she hadn't gotten away entirely unscathed, but it was nothing that she couldn't manage, or rather, ignore.
She had some half-formed, apologetic words already on her tongue - it was her fault, there was no doubt about that, so even if the instrument could be repaired, she owed him an apology for the incident - when he started yelling at her, and her mouth snapped shut before a single syllable could come out. Her temper flared at his insults, hot and explosive.

"Well, maybe you should take better care than to just carry it around like that!" she snapped back. "Don't blame me for your stupidity! Don't you have a guitar case for it? Who carries around an instrument like that?"

However, when Dee got a closer look at the sad remains of the guitar, her irritation settled down a bit. It was definitely broken, and badly so, and the boy, despite all his rudeness, was obviously upset about it. Which, in Dee's opinion, still didn't give him the right to curse at her - it wasn't like she'd done it on purpose, and he couldn't have been paying that much attention to where he was going, either - but it made her slightly more willing to overlook this bout of impoliteness.

"I'm sorry," Dee ground out between clenched teeth. It stung her pride to apologize to someone who had just insulted her, no matter any extenuating circumstances, but her parents had taught her better manners than guitar boy had, after all. She couldn't guarantee how sincere she had sounded, but she had tried, that counted for something, right? "I didn't mean to run into you. I can try to repair your guitar, if you'll let me." The offer came out more as an accusation than a suggestion, her blue eyes narrowed to slits, but still.
The guitar didn't look broken beyond repair, and the Mending Charm was one of the first things they had learned in class. It should be manageable. If she could fix a smashed glass, she should be able to do a bit of splintered wood and a few snapped strings.

Percival's hand ached from the rough landing. Though the pain did nothing put full the anger that brimmed just below the surface. He inwardly wondered if his hands were bleeding as it felt like the blood in his hands thumped against the skin of his hands. Looking down slightly showed that his hands were indeed bleeding. Though nothing too serious to warrant a visit to a nurse.

Percival grit his palms in a fist causing a fresh torrent of pain to fly up into his forearms. The boy was clearly angry that the other seemed to be angry as well. In his eyes, the only one who should be upset is the one with the broken guitar hanging sadly around his neck.

"How is it my fault you can't look where you're going! Your such a clutz!" he snapped at her. The boy was defensive about not using his guitar case. Though he wasn't one to admit he was also in the wrong. Especially here, since it would mean admitting he helped break his Uncle's guitar. That thought struck a chord with the boy's heart, and sadness mixed with anger in the worst way.

Percival huffed as the other apologized glaring away from her. The boy was glad she had apologized, but another part of him didn't want that girl to go even two inches near his guitar again. Especially when she had a wand out at the ready. The boy turned his glare back at the other clearly not impressed with her apology. It was clear to him that she didn't want to apologize. He scoffed to himself as he studied the other for a second. He had a one-year-old cousin who could lie better than her.

"Wow that apology really was something. Seemed like it hurt." he jeered clearly showing he doubted her apology. In his eyes, she was just trying to get him off her back. Which in truth was probably exactly what the girl wanted.

At the girl's offer to fix his guitar, no matter how sincere, the boy smirked. "Yeah you better fix it." he ground out. "Why should I have to fix your mistake." he said looking unimpressed. Percival crossed his arms waiting expectantly for the girl to fix his guitar.

Well, wasn't this just getting better and better. Dee ignored the throbbing in her ankle to take a step forward, glaring. The boy looked to be almost 15 centimeters taller than her and was certainly stronger, but Dealla was no one to back down easily.

If Dealla were a little more sensitive to other people, she might have noticed the defensiveness in the boy's stance and words, and stopped poking at wounds, but she wasn't, and especially not after being continually insulted.
"Oh, like you were looking where you're going?" she said derisively, none of her usual cheer in her voice or eyes. "Maybe take a look at yourself first before you try to blame others, hm? Maybe take better care of things that are valuable to you?" She scoffed, and crossed her arms in front of her chest.

The way the boy didn't even look at her while she was trying to force out an apology only served to rile Dealla up more. What, was it beneath him to treat her with some common courtesy? What a jerk.
She met his glare without flinching, her own blue eyes piercing and hot with anger.
"Well, at least I'm trying," she snapped back at his taunt. "Bet your mother would be so proud of the way you're behaving right now."
Some part of her was dimly aware that she might be regretting this later, when her temper calmed down enough for her to properly think this through, but not now.
"Insulting strangers who are trying to apologise to you, real classy."

Her hands balled into fists as he talked down to her, like he could just order her to fix his guitar and she'd have to listen. Half of her was tempted to just walk away, leave him to deal with his guitar by himself. He'd certainly earned it, with every single word that had left his mouth since their collision.
But most of all, Dee wanted this conversation to end, and she got a feeling that he wouldn't let her go that easy. She wasn't looking to make a serious enemy today, not for something so petty. Besides, a tiny, quiet part of her was well aware that this was still, for the biggest part, her fault. She did owe him this.
"Yeah, I will," she replied coldly. "But not because you told me to, but because I'm not stooping to this level of pettiness."

She raised her wand, the smooth wood familiar and comfortable under her fingertips. Maybe she aimed a little too high at first, as if pointing at him instead of the broken instrument, but then lowered it to properly take aim. "Reparo." The incantation was clear, precise, as was the wand movement, and she watched the guitar's neck snap back together, mending as if it had never been broken, the strings whipping up and threading back together, the hole filling back up with the splinters in and around the guitar.
For all she could tell, when she was done, it looked as if it had never been broken.

She lowered her wand, slipping it back into her robes. She wasn't going to stand her holding it as if she felt like she needed to protect herself from him. She wasn't scared.
"Well then, try not to fall down the stairs on your way back in, because then you'll have no one you can put the blame on," she said coolly, and turned back towards the castle to return to the Common Room.

It was only that night, when she was already lying in bed, that she remembered the book with a sinking feeling in her stomach.
(Lucky for her, it was still there and mostly dry when she sprinted down to the lake the next day before class, this time without any collisions.)
