Help!! I've been completely torn over a pet for my character. What do you guys think?

Great White Owl +The most practical pet, personal postman +Aesthetic, matches Peri's color scheme -Moderate to low interaction -Seems like a common pick

Hi Peri, at first I was about to pick the Great White Owl but in the end, I voted for the Siamese because you mentioned that there will be a lot of possible RP interaction opportunities with this elegant pet. The Siamese looks quite beautiful and its blue eyes are similar to Peri. Also, the fact that Peri is obsessed with cats is really adorable and something that can RP about it

On my student account, I went with a rat - the brown rat, though I was torn between that and a gray rat. I enjoy people's reactions so far - which are either them being a bit horrified she has a rat or them thinking it's adorable. Though I haven't RPed having him around much (because I usually forget to do that), I have said he pretty much lives in the pocket of her robes so I can see him actually sneaking out at an inappropriate time (like in a class setting or during meals in the great hall etc). Very underrated and I do like my underrated things - which is probably why my student is also a part-goblin. She recognised how the rat was lonely and a bit unloved, underrated and therefore related and got one.

BUT If your character is cat obsessed, then it makes sense to go for the cat. Hjørdis would never have a pet rat (sadly) but she loves her cat and there's some cute cat threads with Jeger. It makes sense for her IC.

OOC, I'd so go for an owl though - for my love of writing letters.

So this post isn't very helpful to you as I do like them all. I voted rat because I'm partial to having more rats on the site but I do think cat would be an excellent choice for your character.

Ya know, it’s really all up to what you want, but since you did ask for help to pick I decided to vote for the cat. Both because you said Peri really likes cats (plus great RP options), and I would also just really love to see the visual of Peri with a Siamese cat with him. I don’t know why that seems so great, but hey, cats are great pets in general.
I was veeeery close to voting for the owl though, because they’re my personal favourite. Also the aesthetic would be immaculate, though of course that is not what’s most important.

Umm, I think I would vote for the White Owl.
I think Pericles is Intelligent, and a bit snob, so maybe the owl is better. Tho I do know that everyone is going to win for the cat anyways, have fun with you're pet!

I totally didn't vote for the cat because I want mine to meet it XD ... Maybe partly.

, zero question. Peri being cat crazy sold it for me, and also I just get Persian cat vibes from Peri. I got Ana a bengal cat cause I felt like cats fit her pretty well, and specifically that type of cat vibed with her. I could see the owl too, but I'm Team all the way.

First and foremost, cats are obviously superior. No question about it.

But.

Peri does kind of look like a rat boy. Being cat obsessed is cute, but so is the unexpectedness of winding up with a rat. I personally have always been a fan of things that contrast. Thats why Xail ended up with Schrödinger. I wanted her to have a pet that fit her aesthetic, but I wanted them to contrast in terms of personalities. Hence why I often describe him as being gluttonous and lazy. He is the Garfeild of Hogwarts. Schrödinger needed to be the friend Xail never had, and simply tolerate her.

The votes are obviously in favor of a cat, but I think a rat would give him something interesting (not that cats aren't interesting, I'm sure we will love any pet you pick for him) to work with. Not to mention he would get to figure out how to make the rat fit in with the other pets of Hogwarts (cat playdates are always possible, regardless of pet!). Also pre-picked names can help with your decision too. Some names fit certain animals a bit better than others. Anyways, I can't wait to see what you pick for him!

I agree with xailah. Pericles seems like a rat boy mostly because it is a mobile pet. I can see him carrying the rat around where ever he goes (preferably not to swag games) and engaging in one sided conversations with his rat which would be really adorable to see in rps that I would love to see okay out tbh. Well, you can do the same with cats but usually unless the cat, like many other hogwarts felines, follows their owners every where. A cat serves as protection from Aurelia XD. However I hadn' known about Pericles being cast obsessed , he would have seemed to me as less of a cat person and more of a rat person.

Although granted an owl gives a great aesthetic vibes, I would only think that Pericles would have chosen a natural Predator to use as a tool to send owls rather than the intentions off having a pet. As for why the Great horned owl was my pick for Aurelia back in the day, I saw that the species reflected her self quite a bit, being majestic, slightly intimidating and mostly independent and an avid hunter. However it was also because I wouldn't see Aurelia having one-sided conversations with her pet and if she ever had a pet which was dependent on her, they'd be neglected. (Aurelia at times forgets to check on her owl for weeks but Aspen takes care of herself by hunting)

So yeah.

@Griseldis Edelhardt he is WEAK for cats, it's true 😂And that gave me an idea... if he gets a cat, I hope he isn't too distracted with it to slack off on his homework.... I adored the art of Gris with her Crystal, so I decided to check out the pet thread linked on her ency. So WHOLESOME.

@Hjørdis Jensen the "horrified/adorable" combo is really appealing to me, not gonna lie, and a half-goblin choosing an underrated rat tugs at ALL OF my heart strings. Jeger and Hjørdis look great together too, she comes across as a cat type for sure.

@River Dewlight Owls are my personal favorite too, I know that's what I would want if I went to Hogwarts, but Peri is different from me ;__; Sir Little Hoot is painfully precious, I can guess why River couldn't resist. I saw his birthday listed on her profile, please tell me you write a mini owl party in July.

@May Moonstar I guess your character doesn't know him yet, but Peri isn't snobbish, he's highly inclusive and doesn't look down on others 😌 That's part of why I was eyeing the rat, it's a humble pet and I'm a sucker for going against the grain. Unless by snobbish you meant aristocratic politeness, in which case I can see that. I bet most pure-blooded families would buy the owl because they like following a "standard"!

@Anastasia Beckett Jasmine is very pretty, she and Ana make a great fit aesthetically too. "A Spoiled for A Spoiled Girl" cracked me up, but let's be honest, there is something about cats that just oozes "nobility".

@Xailah Alptraum Xai and Schrö are KEEPER/PET GOALS. They are so much fun. I adore the way you incorporate him into RPs, and I can definitely appreciate the contrast between them. Funnily enough, I do have some art with Peri and a rat. His AU familiar shape-shifts between a rat, bat, and spider. I'm happy to switch things up for Hogwarts, but that is totally a thing.

@Aurelia Notrésvace I first made Peri for a D&D game, and we rolled 1d100 on a list of random items to determine what our character's special treasure would be. Peri rolled for "a paper fan with a cat painted on it", so I joked that he collects cat paraphernalia and is entirely obsessed with cats in general. It started as a joke but became a long-lasting trait 😏 Having a mouse still makes wonderful sense, I agree the mobility would be helpful (but yes, NOT at S.W.A.G games). Aspen and Aurelia are a strong combo too, I admire great horned owls, they're regal and powerful birds. I ALMOST considered that one, but canonically that's the same owl Peri's father already has.
