It was a warm, sunny day when Max decided to give flying by himself a shot. Classes were out, the grounds were relatively empty, and if he embarrassed the piss out of himself then at least there wouldn't be many people around to see it. Frowning apprehensively at his school-issued broom, he gingerly mounted it and thought about all the things he'd read about flying, all the things their first lesson had taught him. If he wanted to join the Quidditch team, he had to know the practise, not just the theory.
"This better be bloody easy," he muttered under his breath, clinging to his broom for dear life as it rose shakily off the ground. The first few passes he made a couple of feet off the ground had him convinced that this was the world's stupidest idea, but another few and he started to get used to the feeling. Not bad. Not bad at all. He grinned as he rose higher off the ground - which was probably a dumb idea, since he wasn't to flying and could easily break his neck - but it was fun. The danger mixed with the glee of doing it reminded him of when he was younger, getting up to mischief at family meetings with one of the Blackbournes.
The thought gave him a pause; what had happened with Zed, anyway? He'd assumed his friend had been sorted into Slytherin, but he hadn't been paying enough attention to give it thought after his own sorting. Had he heard Zed's name called? He tried to think back, and before he knew what was going on, his broom was tilting and he was nearly sliding off of it. He let out a - very manly, very dignified, of course - shriek, and forced himself back to the ground before he fell off completely. With a wince, he glanced around to make sure no one had saw it.

The nice warmer weather brought a happy Zed out to the grounds, school issued broom in hand. When he'd seen what it was like out from the window, Zed immediately bolted out of the Gryffindor tower. It was the perfect day to go flying. Pleasant weather didn’t always come by; Zed wasn’t about to let this one go to waste.
It seemed that he wasn’t the only one who thought to go flying this fine day. Upon arriving at the grounds, he spotted a figure on a broom already flying up in the sky. This wasn’t much of a surprise to him. The nice weather was bound to bring out others. He just hoped it wasn’t some mudblood sullying the air. The very thought of flying in the same space as one of them disgusted him. If it was indeed a mudblood, he’d just have to make them leave.
Satisfied with the plan he’s come up with, Zed mounted his loaned broom. He was about to kick off when a scream caught his attention. His head immediately snapped to the source and found the person who was flying just mere moments ago, heading towards the ground at a rapid speed. Stunned by the suddenness of it, all Zed could do was stand there and watch, face pale with fear.
Moments later, the boy landed on the grassy field. It wasn’t the most graceful of landings, but it was certainly better than it could’ve been.
Now that they were on a closer level, Zed could see that the person was actually a boy, seemingly around his age. There was something about him though, that Zed couldn’t quite put a finger on. He seemed somewhat familiar.
Curiosity getting the better of him, Zed went up towards the boy to get a closer look and offered a hand to help him up. “Are you alright?”

If Max was unhappy about being seen, he was doubly unhappy at someone actually thinking that he needed a hand up. Triply, even, when he saw that the hand was Gryffindor - unless it was one of the friends he'd already made, like Aubren, he didn't want a single person seeing that terrible excuse for flying. He was about to wave the guy's hand away and brush him off coldly when he finally looked from the robes to the face. And dropped his jaw in astonishment.
"Hold up a bloody second," Max managed to get out, torn between laughing at the irony and staring in shock. "Blackbourne? Is that you in a Gryffindor robe, mate?" For a moment all the stress of the past few weeks dropped away and it was like he was six again, ready to cackle at the misfortune of one of the other boys getting in trouble at the family meeting.
"No way! What does your grandfather make of that?" The situation struck him as one of the funniest he'd ever been in; two pure-bloods who'd always met up at their Slytherin family meetings, now meeting up as two Gryffindors.
"Oh man, I'm sorry," he laughed, shaking his head ruefully. "Where are my manners?" He grabbed Zed's hand and allowed himself to be pulled up, his eyes sparkling as he arched a brow. This was one person he didn't have to worry about lineages or saying 'morally wrong' things with, and someone he knew for a fact that his parents approved of. "It's good to see you again."
