The Witch and The Wand
"Wand.Wand.Wand." Asteria muttered to herself as she walked down the road of Diagon Alley. Today was the day she needed to get her supplies, and while she was excited, Asteria couldn't help but worry. She would be starting her first time at Hogwarts soon, and her mind has been listing about one-thousand things that could go wrong. 'What if you lose your books?...What if you lose your wand?!... What if you miss the train?...' with each question that pops up Asteria swears she'll lose her mind. "How long until we get to Ollivanders?" Asteria asked impatiently.
"Not long now...you know, it's perfectly normal to be nervous, darling." the loving, soothing voice of Asteria's mother says on her right side. She didn't need to say anything for her parents to know how she felt, they could hear it in her voice. "Your father and I were as nervous as you were when we were in our first year." Asteria lips pulled into a small frown. "Really?" Asteria asked. She never pictured her parents to be the nervous type. "Of course, princess." Asteria's father chimed in. She looked to her left to see her father looking down at her, a smile lighting up his youthful face. "Even we get scared or nervous sometimes. Nothing to be ashamed of. Ah! here we are!"
Asteria looked at the shop, it seemed quite small on the outside. Above the door, in gold letters, though barely readable it seems to say 'Ollivanders: Makers of Fine Wands since 382 B.C.' Walking up to the shop, Asteria opened the door. In the dusty window, Asteria could she a single wand laying on a faded purple cushion. There was a spindly chair in the corner and piles upon piles of boxes of what Asteria could only guess were wands stacked all the way up to the ceiling. 'What a small shop...' Asteria thought to herself as she looked around in awe, her mouth in a small 'o' shape and her green eyes wide with wonder.
"Oh, what do we have here?" said a voice coming towards them from the back. "Ah, yes I think...I remember, yes. You..." the old man said as he came into the light. pointing to her father with a pale white finger. "Charles Hana...yes- 10'',Apple wood and Unicorn hair, unyielding, powerful, but not overwhelmingly so, highly loyal to it's owner. Perfect for someone such as yourself" Charles gave a nod for confirmation. "That's right." he responded. "and you...." The old man said turning to her mother. "Olivia Wilson, or should I say Hana, now?...9 1/2'', Rowan and unicorn hair, Surprisingly swishy, very protective and selective of who it chooses." Her mother gave a slight chuckle. "of course." she said happily.
"Now." he said, pale silvery eyes turning to meet her deep green ones. "I am Ollivander- I own on this shop as you may have guessed. and You..you must be their daughter, yes?" he looked at her awaiting confirmation. "Yes," Asteria began trying to hide her nervousness. "My name is Asteria, Asteria Hana, sir." "Why it is a pleasure to me you, Asteria, now," he said turning to look on a nearby shelf. He pulled out a box from the middle row. "Let's get started yes? Here, 11'', chestnut wood and Thunderbird tail feather, Pliable, enjoys novelty and inventiveness, it will choose a curious-minded,independent wizard." He handed it to Asteria. She gave it a swish and five boxes fell over. "No,no,no. I think not." he took the wand and handed her another. After about 2 more tries and the brink of a nervous breakdown, Ollivander handed her yet another wand. "11'', Chestnut wood and Phoenix Feather, Flexible, very powerful but hard to use, very selective or the wizard it chooses." Asteria gulped and took the wand.A warmth began to surge through her as a glow began to shine from the wands tip. A breeze blow through the store before dying down as quickly as it started. "There we are, the wand chooses the wizard." Ollivander said as a smile began to etch itself on to his face. "Take care of that wand, and it will be kind to you." Asteria handed him the money and thanked him before walking out, a small feeling of confidence began to bubble with in her as she and her parents went off to buy her robes.
