May didn't like her parents as much as anyone she knew would. They were cowards, and did not like witches and wizards. Both having two children in a wizarding school, they decided that they would hide them at all costs. But what about the people that k ew May and Vanessa, her sister? Well, her parents would say that they were going to a school in France.

May had started to walk in the grounds, desperate for a helping hand. Mostly because she had received a letter from her father, telling her that her mother was sick. How did May take the news? Well, she had started to cry. Any child would cry, right? But a Slytherin had been real cunning, and evil. As always. Jack Burnett didn't seem to care that May was having family issues. He disgusts May now.

While she walked through the grounds, two owls came floating to her. Well, not floating, but flying.

She picked some nuts she had in her bag, gave them at the school owl and... And to the owl she knew was from her sister. She decided to open her sisters first:
Dear May,
Mom is getting worse. She has pneumonia, but I know it's going to be something else. Sorry if this is short.

Your tearful sister,

Vanessa.

Ok. So May knew that the last owl was from her father. No emotions came to her as she read her sisters, but she decided to read her father's. It would be more dramatic, of course, but May knew he gave more details. So she opened the letter...

She read it, and tears fell from her eyes. She sat on a rock, and sobs came out of her. She destroyed the letter...

Another day, another “get over here you greasy bastard,” to run away from. These kids were relentless. Wyatt could appreciate the effort, but he didn’t like being the easy target. That’s why he had so many enemies. It was kill or get killed. When another student didn’t hate him, he made them hate him. Unfortunately, this paved the way for more kids to pick on the Slytherin. It was an endless cycle, and Wyatt would never admit it, but most of it was his fault. He didn’t love getting picked on, but he would prefer it any day over being liked and smiled at and hugged.

After running from the Small Hall to the grounds, he looked over his shoulder. No-one was following him. I’m such an idiot, he told himself, I could’ve been running alone this whole time. He sighed and was about to start walking back when in the corner of his eye he noticed another person. It looked to be a student. Upon further examination, it was a Hufflepuff girl, and she was… crying? Wyatt tapped his foot anxiously. He didn’t like seeing people hurt, he wasn’t a monster, but did he really want to get wrapped up in someone else's personal troubles? What harm could lending a helping hand do... Plus, if it was a Hufflepuff doing the crying it wasn’t likely it was her fault.

He took a few careful steps closer, trying not to step on any twigs and scare the girl. He decided to start with a standard introduction. “Hello, I’m Wyatt.” He stopped walking. “Are you alright?”

May looked around. She saw someone. By the looks of it, a Slytherin. "Y-yeah, I'm fine." May said, wiped out her tears a smiled. She didn't want to seem like a cry baby. But she couldn't help it. "I guess I got a bit overwhelmed you know, by everything that's happening y'know. "

She didn't want to lie. But she didn't want to tell the truth either. Changing the subject, and hoping he, the boy, wouldn't ask about why she was crying, she presented herself. "I'm Moonstar. May Moonstar. First Year, Hufflepuff. I guess you're a Slytherin, by the looks of it." May said, and smiled warmly.

She stopped in silence for some time, and then, she felt some spring rain touching her skin. "Oh. It's raining. Do you know the charm?" May asked, pulling out her wand. "Pluvia Velo." she raised her wand upward, like a umbrella, and of course, the extension of the wand, a transparent umbrella with light blue lines, was formed.

She picked Wyatt's hand, so that he couldn't wet himself. Well, if he didn't know the spell, of course.

May was a expert at Charms. Something made her want to be better each time, when she was in class. She usually hoped for more, each time she wen to that classroom.

The Badger looked around the forest before her eyes landed on Wyatt. The Hufflepuff said she was fine, but in Wyatt’s personal experience, fine means “not great.” The girl wiped her tears on her sleeve. "I guess I got a bit overwhelmed you know, by everything that's happening y'know. "

“Sure.” It was completely understandable. Everyone’s been on edge since the Secret Blossom Ball, which was the textbook definition of “mistake.” Still, that was a reasonably long time ago. Wyatt didn’t completely believe the girl, but he didn’t take her as a liar, so he didn’t ask any further. He noticed, though, as she changed the subject slightly in a haste.

"I'm Moonstar. May Moonstar. First Year, Hufflepuff. I guess you're a Slytherin, by the looks of it."

“Yes. Wyatt Starkey, good to meet you. I'm a first-year as well.”
There was a silence for a moment. It felt awkward.
Wyatt knew the difference between comfortable and awkward silences.

"Oh. It's raining. Do you know the charm?" May asked, pulling out her wand. "Pluvia Velo." she raised her wand upward, and a transparent umbrella was formed. She pulled him under the umbrella.

“Thank you,” he didn’t try to smile.
People always told him a smile didn’t fit his personality, and it was off-putting to see him wearing one.

Avoiding eye contact like always, he averted his gaze to the ground, where scraps of paper were being swallowed by a forming puddle of mud. It was likely the girl was the one who ripped up the paper, but what was it? A drawing? A letter, maybe? He tried to think if he’d seen an owl on his run, but he’d been a little too focused on not getting beat up.

“I wasn't going to ask but I can’t help but think there’s something else bothering you,” he said. “Are you sure you don’t want to… talk about it?” He hoped he didn’t sound like he didn’t care. That was often an issue with Wyatt and other people- his tone, but really, he just wasn't that good with other kids, even though sometimes he truly cared.

“Yes. Wyatt Starkey, good to meet you. I'm a first-year as well.”

May smiled at him. He didn't seem like a enemy. He wasn't shy, but he was serious. May understands his feelings immediately. Sometimes, when people were deeply hurt, or had a trauma, they just didn't want to smile. That, she felt last month. She didn't look at him or anything, she just kept staring at the spring rain. She felt another rush of tears coming, but kept them inside. Maybe she was a bit embarrassed to show them, after all Wyatt had seen enough of her crying. She wasn't the type of girl that cried, and less when it came to cry in front of someone. She never did that. But he had spotted her, and she felt slightly embarrassed to admit why she was crying about. But she shouldn't.

When Wyatt asked her if there was something else she was crying about, and if she wanted to talk about it, she felt that she did not want to, but did at the same time. Despite being serious and strange, the Slytherin was kind, and he was asking her this in a tone that meant understanding. "I~I she began, but couldn't keep on. Tears were streaming down her eyes, but she was calm. No sobbing. No pain. Just...nothing.

She didn't want to say it. She wasn't even sure if it was true. But she had somebody that had asked her kindly to tell him, and May needed to spit it out. She couldn't keep on crying forever. "My mothers going to die soon" she said. She wiped her tears, and looked at him again. "Do you have family problems?" she asked him. She had asked him that because he had asked her a plain question. And now, it was her turn to ask him. But she didn't want to be evil anyways, or nosy. [/b]"You don't need to talk about it, if you don't want to.[/b]

"Do you have family problems?"

That was awfully forward. He dodged the question.
“I think we should focus on the main issue here… I’m so sorry about your mother.” Wyatt couldn’t imagine what the girl was thinking. She’d heard the news and was able to give Wyatt a casual yet sincere smile when she offered him her umbrella. Did she not care for her mother?

Wyatt didn’t care to ask May why her mother was dying. It was none of his business, and if she wanted to talk about it, she would, but he wasn’t going to poke around for answers. Answers his life didn’t depend on.

He couldn’t believe what came out of his mouth when he said, “Do you want to talk about it? If you want peace, I can go.”

Wyatt wasn’t a very… feelings… person, but he always had a soft spot for mothers.
His mother was the strongest person he knew, and he looked up to her a great deal. She’d gone through so much and was still able to care for her son. He feared every day that his father would come home while he was at school, and his mom would be there by herself. Wyatt didn’t know what he would possibly do if he ever lost his mother.

May wasn't surprised that Wyatt hadn't replied to her question. She wouldn't had done it herself, but, when she sees someone that she thinks she can trust, well, she trusts him with her secrets. She was never very fond of Slytherins, but, there were some that she liked very, very much.
"Well, you know...thanks." she blushed a little and gave him a warm smile, wondering, Im sure he does have family issues. Yes, why else would've he had skipped my question?
But she didn't want to be nosy. Or impertinent. If he would want to tell him, he would've had told it already. So he didn't want to. But May didn't mind.

"Oh, no. You can stay. As long as you don't laugh at me or get bored with my story." she said, chuckling. She waited a few seconds to think of the words she was going to say, and began telling him about everything.

"I've always thought of my mother as a stranger. She's my mother, and she's been with me my whole life, but we have never talked like they do....like real ones. I fear she has never loved me. And now that she's dying, I fear I won't have the chance to mend my wound...with her."

"Oh, no. You can stay. As long as you don't laugh at me or get bored with my story." she said, chuckling. It would be easy to follow her as-long-as requests. Wyatt didn’t get bored, he had so many thoughts all the time that he just used those to entertain himself, and Wyatt rarely laughed. It wouldn’t be a problem anyway, he didn’t think anything would be funny about someone losing their mother. There was a pause before she started telling her story.

"I've always thought of my mother as a stranger. She's my mother, and she's been with me my whole life, but we have never talked like they do....like real ones." He knew what she meant by that. Wyatt was lucky to have had a really good relationship with his mother, even when his father was around, though it was easier for them to talk to each other when his dad left, and that’s all they ever really did, talk.

"I fear she has never loved me. And now that she's dying, I fear I won't have the chance to mend my wound... with her."

“I’m so sorry, May.” His voice was monotone, but he didn’t know what other tone to use. Though he didn’t talk to people a lot, he was strangely good at consoling people when they were sad. Wyatt assumed it was because he knew what he would want from someone when he was sad, which was quite often, unfortunately.

He always knew to be there for the person first, and then help them find a solution.
“I can’t imagine what you’re going through.”

He wondered if the school had heard about it, or if she’d told an adult or her head of house. He would ask that soon enough.

[quote]May didn't mind. If she wouldn't have the chance to talk to her again, it was fine. May thought about how stupid she was of having feelings. For her own mother. This was something nobody could think of, except somebody that deeply loved their mother, and now that her mother was dead,...or was going to be, well, May felt empty. Not happy, of course. She couldn't be happy when someone was dying. That would be heartless, of course, but if she was sad, it would mean that she had been in a very happy relationship with her mother, nonetheless, with her own family.

"You don't have to be sorry." May said to Wyatt, smiling forcefully, not wanting to make eye contact. It was obvious that she was tense, unhappy, not Hufflepuff-like, totally a different personality than the girl that Wyatt had met about ten minutes ago. She was thinking hard, fast, it was almost disturbing to be with her, her presence was frightening, but May knew that the boy that was standing beside her wasn't going to feel a thing. He was the serious one, after all.

May patted his shoulder, but didn't move. "I haven't told anybody about it." May said to Wyatt, als out reading his thoughts. "You're the first one.

"You don't have to be sorry."

May put her hand on his shoulder. Wyatt saw it coming so he was able to suppress a flinch, surprising himself. Wyatt was concerned. He felt like May was trying to comfort him, when May was the one with the dying mother. He didn’t know if it would be too rude to shrug off her hand, but he had to make it known that he wasn’t accepting her comfort. So he did anyway.

"I haven't told anybody about it. You're the first one."

The fact that she’d basically read his mind was unsettling, but to Wyatt, most things were unsettling so it didn’t mean too much to him. Still, it struck him as odd. The Slytherin decided to keep that in the back of his mind. It was also odd that a random Slytherin that happened to be in the same area as her was the first person she’d told.

“Are you sure I’m the best first person to tell?” At this point, Wyatt was questioning her sanity. The girl was quite strange, and Wyatt wondered what was up with her. She could have just been strange today since she’d found out her mother’s “situation”. But, when you’d think about it, Wyatt questioned everyone’s sanity. To the point where maybe it wasn’t everyone else that was off.

“Not that I’m evil or anything, but maybe you’d want to tell a close friend or a professor?”
