At Home
August 31, 2019
7:30 AM
7:30 AM
Rose Moon woke up to her alarm. When she pulled herself out of bed, the alarm clock read 7:30 AM. She pulled her clothes on and went downstairs. As always, she was the first one down. She began making waffle batter. Once she was done, she got out the waffle-maker and put some batter in. When the waffle came out, she put some more batter in and smeared the first one with butter. Her mother came downstairs and Rose put the plate with a waffle on it in front of her.
"Thank you, Rose," she said. "What would I do without you?"
Rose smiled. Her mother wolfed down the waffle, gave her a hug and a kiss on the cheek, and left for work.
By then, the next waffle was done. She cut it in half, putting whipped cream around the edges as a "border" and flooding the inside with syrup. She then put the other half on top of the first and put it on the table, where her brother, Franklin, sat.
Sure enough, Frankie was the next to come down. He had shaggy blonde hair and green eyes, and glasses sat on top of his nose.
"Thanks, Rose," he said before sitting down at his spot and starting to eat.
Rose then took another waffle out of the waffle maker, drizzling it with syrup and spotting it with whipped cream. She put it down at the spot across from Frankie, and as soon as it hit the table, Jessica, the youngest, came down. She was looking at her phone, scrolling through social media, no doubt.
"Good morning, Jesse," Rose said in her sister's ear, plucking her phone out of her hand. She pointed to the waffle. "Eat."
Jesse rolled her eyes, but picked up her fork and spoon and began eating her waffle. When the waffle maker beeped to say it was done again, Rose put Jesse's phone face-down beside her plate and took the waffle out. With this waffle, she slathered butter and applesauce over it and put it in the spot next to Jesse.
Gabe came down next and sat next to Jesse. He leaned over to look at what Jesse was doing. "Makeup tutorials?! Even when you're allowed to use makeup, it won’t make youlook any better," he scoffed.
"Hey!" Jesse exclaimed.
"Gabe, apologize," Rose said as she prepped the next waffle (she put whipped cream on one side and syrup on the other).
"He's not wrong," Faith said, sitting down.
As Rose Gave Faith her waffle, she smirked and said, "I know that. But he didn’t have to say it out loud."
Gabe mumbled, "Sorry, Jesse," but he didn’t mean it.
"So, Frankie, what’s your fun fact for the day?" Rose asked, changing the subject.
Frankie thought for a moment and then said, "Nifflers are magical creatures with pouches and love shiny stuff. They are also extremely adorable. So, Rose, what house do you want to be in?"
Rose made her own waffle and thought about it. "Well, I'm expecting to be in Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw, but I don’t care what house I get in."
