Let the feather fly!
Kaegen had shown up in the dueling club, looked around a bit and decided that he was going to have to practice a bit before he actually challenged someone, quickly realizing that he was probably not allowed to use his slingshot.
He found a dummy, and stared at it. It stared back.
He stared harder and harder, not moving, hardly breathing.
The dummy stared back.
Kaegen was going to treat this as a actual fight. He was not going to let a dummy intimidate him. No way was his first duel going to end like this. He decided to demoralize his opponent. Kaegen's voice came out of his unmoving mouth like a quiet hiss of steam.
"You are not good"
It had no affect. The dummy kept staring, clearly not demoralized.
Kaegen whipped out his wand in a fluid motion, the dummy remained calm, not moving, not showing any fear of his impending doom.
Looking at the ground, Kaegen found what he was looking for: A rather large piece of lint. Waving his wand and using the levitation charm he learned in charms class, the lint rose up to do his will. Jabbing the wand forward, Kaegen pushed the lint at the dummy.
The dummy didn't move, didn't budge, wasn't worried.
Kaegen's opponent was so much stronger than the boy had realized, his only spell had failed! But, after all that was the only spell that had been taught so far, it was the only one first years could possibly know, unless they were crazy overachievers and had lumos.
Kaegen would have to come at this with a different approach. The dummy had to have a weakness.

Or maybe it didn't have to have a weakness. It didn't matter, it was going to be vanquished one way or another. Kaegen squinted at the dummy and decided that he would try a different approach. Pointing at the dummy's head Kaegen cast the levitation charm. He was going to levitate it's head off!
But sadly, the charm was pretty weak. The dummy didn't even budge, and Kaegen was starting to think that maybe he had bitten off more than he could chew. How was he going to do a decent job at dueling if he couldn't even defeat this one dummy?
Whipping off his boot, Kaegen threw it past the dummy, and then caught it with the levitation charm. Pulling quickly to make the boot hit the dummy on the back of his head. But all it did was slowly levitate towards him, gently tapping the dummy. Why was this so difficult? What on earth was the problem with this stupid spell? And why hadn't the dummy retaliated yet? Well, he was going to see what the charm was good for one way or another. Leaping into the air, Kaegen cast the charm on himself. But sadly he only hit his scarf, which did not keep him in the air. Not even a little. He face planted on the ground in front of the dummy.
