Sugar Cookies!!! {Solo}
Damion had always loved decorating. His mother had allowed him to do so. He couldn't have been happier doing something that he appreciated. He loved doing it at home for his mother and her guests and now that he was in School, didn't mean that he had to leave doing what he liked. He had found what he thought he had been missing and found his passion in decorating. Would he like to become a decorator when he grew up who knew? He loved doing it right now but he didn't know if he'd like to do it when he grew up. But that would be something that he might have to just see.
He had been waiting for the Elf to bring his cooked cookies so he could get to decorating them. He had picked something really interesting to decorate this time. He had every detailed step written down in his "little black book" or well his recipe book. He had every small detail penciled down there. He didn't want to make any error. He had a check list this time as it had many levels of things that he had to get done before his Sugar Cookie looked epically awesome. For a young kid, it might be very appealing: he was thinking about the idea that he was going to go through with the decorations of the cookies.
He was going to make a dogwood flower as the first part of his three parts of decorating his cookie. He took his recipe book out and read what he would be needing.
I need:
~White gum paste,
~A very small amount of light green gum paste
~A container of gum glue adhesive (a pinch of gum paste dissolved in a tablespoon of water)
~Crisco (to revive gum paste if it's dried out)
~ A mise en place bowl
~A tapered spatula
~Color Dust Light Green and Dark Green,
~White Pearl Dust
~Small brushes
~A dusting pouch filled with a 50/50 mix of powdered sugar and cornstarch, the veining and ball tools from Wilton's 10-Piece Fondant and Gum Paste Set,
~A 9" fondant roller with pink (1/16") rings,
~A 3" flower forming cup, a gum paste storage board to use as a work surface,
~The dogwood imprint mat from Wilton's Flower Impression Mat Set,
~Thin pink and purple shaping foam,
~And the dogwood cutter from the Gum Paste Flower Cutter Set.
Damion had already collected the items that he needed for making the dogwood flower. He took the gum paste storage mat and started dusting the back of it. Then he had to roll out some white gum paste to 1/16" thick, then slide the rings off and roll it out a little thinner. Once he had rolled out the white gum paste, then he cut out one dogwood shape and tore away the slack. He then dust the dogwood petal and center parts of the impression mat. He laid the cutout over the petal impression and pressed gently but firmly over it with the thin pink shaping foam. He then placed the cutout, imprint side down, on the purple foam and used the large end of the ball tool to cup each of the two rounded ends of each petal , which ended up being eight in total. He flipped the cutout back over, imprint side up and used the large end of the ball tool to lightly thin the edges of each petal.
He used the wide end of the veining tool, point side down, to form a small peak in between each of the two rounded shapes at the end of each petal. He then pressed an indentation with the large end of the ball tool in the center. Now he had to put it aside as he had to move to the next part of his flower. So he dusted a forming cup and then placed the flower on that very carefully.
He took a deep breath and then rolled a very small amount of green gum paste into a ball and pressed it into the center impression on the mat. Using a small brush, he placed a dab of gum glue adhesive in the center of the flower and placed the green center over it. Now he had to let the flower to dry for a while before coloring it. He put it aside while he started mixing the colors he needed. He took out the ingredients for coloring the flower (the Color Dusts and Pearl Dust, the small bowl, brushes, and the angled spatula). Now using the tip of the spatula to remove a small amount from the light green and dark green dust vials, and then mixed them together in a bowl. After waiting for a while for the flower to dry, when it was dried he dusted the flower with the white pearl dust brush a small amount of the Light Green Dust in the center and using a very small amount of the Dark Green and Light Green in the indent of each petal. His dogwood flower was ready. He took a deep breath as he placed the flower down.
He took a look in his recipe book and smiled as he read the things he needed for the Honeycomb part of his cookie.
I need:
~Royal Icing
~Hexagon Cutter
~Yellow Food Gel Coloring
~#1 PME Piping Tip
~Piping Bag and Coupler
~Honeycomb Pattern
He took it out from his bag and placed it on the table and took one cookie and flooded the base with yellow icing before letting it dry for a while. Now the next step was to pipe the honeycomb on it. First he needed to trace the lines on the yellow icing. He was waiting for it dry and traced it on a paper for practicing it before he hit the cookie with it. Once the icing had dried, he traced the lines one side at a time and one row at a time, until they were all connected in hexagons. Once that was done at the bottom layer, he had to go back to the first lines before he began piping, which should have been set by now, and pipe right on top of them. And he repeated it till he had the desired height for the honeycomb. His honeycomb design looked awesome.
Now for the last part he thought. He cracked his knuckles and read his recipe book one last time to see what he needed this time.
I'll need:
~Gum paste
~Yellow and Black Food Gel
~Fine Paintbrush
~Pearl Luster Dust
~Mini Bugs Mould
He took everything he needed and placed it on the table. He was ready for the last part of his cookie. He had to knead a tiny piece of gum paste and press the smoothest end into the bee moulding making sure the entire cavity was filled. He then gently trimmed the excess gum paste with a paring knife. He had to make sure that the surface of the gum paste is flush with the mould. He had to put the mould in the freezer for 10 minutes. Ten minutes later, the mould had set and after popping it out of the mould he let it wait there for Twenty-Four hours aka one day!!!
He had not left the place for one day, he didn't want to take a risk with his master piece. So he had slept there with an elf looking out for his items. One day later, his mould had dried he painted it with a yellow food gel with black heads and bottom part.
