Can I Have This Dance? PV Dakota Parker Closed

Amelia had awoken that morning missing her mother more than usual. Rubbing the sleep from her dark brown eyes, the first year couldn’t help but think about all the fun she’d have with her mother when her father was out on his business trips with the Ministry. She’d get to slide around with her socks on in their large dining room, dancing with her mother to a music that her father would never let be this loud. The Lovell girl would have the time of her life in those short times with her mother, where she was allowed to let go and be free of academic responsibility, if only for a couple hours. Sitting down at her small writing desk next to her four poster bed, Amelia wrote an owl to her mother that she sent off quickly right after she finished it.

Feeling a lot better after that, the Raven hummed a familiar tune under her breath and headed down, out of her dorm room and then the common room and out towards the winding staircases, where she continued to proceed in a downward fashion. There was no real goal in mind as she traveled, Amelia just got lost in thought thinking of her mother, singing a tune and trying not to bust out any dance moves on the staircases—that would definitely not be safe. A laugh escaped between her pink lips at the thought. A smile still lingering on her face, the Ravenclaw noticed she had gotten quite far down the staircases.

Looking around, she made the educated guess that she was on the fourth floor of the school. It looked lie a familiar landing, one where the library and the dueling club usually were. The corridor she had found herself in, though, was not an easily recognizable one. A small furrow developed between her brows, wondering where she’d gotten herself to this time. Heading down the corridor, there was what appeared to be two big, french-style doors that looked rather important. ‘How had I ever overlooked this before?’ She thought to herself. Then again, she had heard stories that even professors could still get lost in Hogwarts castle. Giving the wooden left side of the door a tug, she discovered how heavy it was and only managed to crack it open.

Squeezing herself in, the eleven year old gazed around the huge room in awe. It was quite clearly a ballroom, sectioned off into different areas. One whole wall to her right was covered in mirrors, the opposing wall being tables and chairs stacked on top of each other to make more space. The center of the room stayed bare, she assumed for singing or dancing or something of the like. A grand piano stood on stage at the back of the room, accompanied by a few other instruments strewn across the wall. Forgetting to close the door behind her as she took this all in, Amelia began to step towards the center of the room. Staring out the double-paned windows that were in the room, the Ravenclaw felt her mind ease. It was peaceful in here, dusty and quiet, but peaceful. She might’ve found her favorite place outside of the library.

Closing her dark brown eyes, the first year took her wand out of her pocket. Waving it in the air in a fluid motion, the piano sprang to life and started playing a ballet tune. Slipping off her shoes, Amelia began to dance some steps her mother had taught her as a child. She proceeded to flow with the ups and downs of the melody coming from the piano, leaping when right and sashaying every now and again. She was having fun, sliding around on the smooth floor of the Ballroom, completely lost in the music and the memory of home.
