French?
Dawn was sitting at a table in the Library, peacefully completing her History of Magic homework, when a memory popped into her head. Her mother had told her to learn French during her time at Hogwarts. It took several years to learn French, so why not start before Second Year was over. She might just be done by the end of Seventh year if she started now. Her cousins lived in France with her French uncle on her mother’s side (her mother’s sister’s divorced husband). All of those cousins, five to be exact, spoke fluent French and often used her unknowingness of French to insult her without her knowing. Quickly scribbling down the last sentence of her homework essay, she got up rolled her homework parchment back up and put her book away. Then, rushing to the Hufflepuff girl’s dorms, she grabbed her French book that her mother had placed in her trunk at the beginning of school and took off again for the library.
Opening up the book to the first lesson she cringed, this’ll be hard, she thought. Silently screaming for help, she pushed through one lesson after another, until she at least knew one word. Then she got into the really confusing stuff. “Oh, I wish that I knew someone here at Hogwarts who knew French, then maybe I wouldn’t be struggling as much,” she intentionally thought aloud. Then whimpering with frustration, she closed the French book and waited for someone to respond to her comment.

French?
Lauren shuffled her way to the Library trying to find a nice and quiet place for her to read. Before she had let, her father had given her a few books to read, some french and some English so she could keep up with the language. Her father being from Beauxbâtons, he had insisted she learned french with her mother since she was very small and quickly caught onto the language and accent.
"Rappelle toi toujours que tu es française Lauren!" (Always remember that you are french Lauren!) He would tell her in the mornings before she went to school. It had never bothered her to be bilingual and she even found it useful. People tended to respect others more if they could speak different languages as most feared of being spoken behind their back. She would never abuse that knowledge but she did find it to be useful in some circumstances.
As she finally entered the library, she came upon a quiet table to read and sat gently on the chair, her robe floating over her minuscule body. She heard at many times groans of frustration coming from a girl but chose to ignore them even if they were a bit distracting. The girl continued to make a bit of whimpers as Lauren looked at her with a confused yet not really welcoming look. She was about to move when the other Hufflepuff whispered “Oh, I wish that I knew someone here at Hogwarts who knew French, then maybe I wouldn’t be struggling as much,” The comment caught The first year's eye as she sighed and walked up to the girl, closing her favorite crime book. She took a deep breath before looking over her shoulder and peeked at the book she had in front of her. She decided to finally try to help
"If you are in desperate need of help, I can speak french fluently." She declared setting her own book aside and sitting down besides the other Hufflepuff. She was rather young about her age, maybe a year or two older and had beautiful light chocolate eyes that were valued by pink glasses.

Dawn saw the people around her slightly get annoyed as she began to droan. It was a library, after all. After she made her desperate plea for help, she saw a younger Hufflepuff approaching her. Dawn could only assume she was a first year, as she had never seen this younger girl before.
Dawn looked at teh girl with thankful eyes. "Thanks so much," she said. "My cousins are all French and they ust love to insult me in French behind my back. I absolutely despise it though. Over the summer, I told my parents about this and they told me the only solution was to learn French. I've been trying," Dawn gestured to the book in front of her. "but the book hasn't been helping." Dawn shoved the book asied. "I was about ready to give up," she continued. "But then you came."
Dawn pulled aside a chair and motioned for the first year to take a seat. "And, boy, and I glad you came. I might never understand my cousins." Dawn extended her hand for a hand shake. "Silly me," she said. "I think I forgot to introduce myself. I'm Dawn Riley. I'm in my second year in the Hufflepuff house."

Lauren sat next to the girl trying not to be rude to another hufflepuff.
"I understand, how frustrating it can be but giving up won't do any good." She observed the other Hufflepuff who was grateful someone came along to help her. As she mentioned the book not helping, it was obvious to see why. The dove right into grammar ad conjugation which, while being necessary, was confusing at first. "Ok here's the thing. This book won't help you unless you use it a little bit later on. You cannot just zoom through a lesson as its still complicated." She tried to sound the most professional an eleven year old could be. While she was a Hufflepuff, she did not find herself to act like one or to be as nice as someone who would imagine what a Hufflepuff would be like. "My name is Lauren, I am eleven year old, a first year from the pure-blood descendants of the house of Wildhawk."
The younger girl held out her right hand to the second year as a proper introduction. "I'd be willing to teach you some french in my spare time." She then continued to explain the possibility of her helping out. She cleared her throat and presented herself in French this time "Enchanté, je m'appelle Lauren, j'ai onze ans, je suis en premiere année et j'appartiens aux descendants de la famile Wildhawk. Yes I am aware that it is a lot to take in at first so to start, just repeat after me. I'm going to say "Nice to meet you, My name is Lauren" The first year waited a second for Dawn to nod making sure she understood.

Dawn nodded along as her fellow Hufflepuff spoke. When the girl said something about the book not being helpful, Dawn exclaimed, "Exactly!" She quieted down after getting a few dirty looks from the nearby students. "That's what I tried to tell my parents, but they said that since the book said 'For Beginners,' it was the right book. Shows you how much they know. And now I've wasted all my money on a book that won't do me any good any time soon." Dawn sighed and placed the book under her seat, generating a louder SLAP! than anticipated.
When the girl said her name was Lauren, Dawn shook her hand and said, "Pleased to meet you, Lauren." Dawn scooted her chair towards the table a bit and sat up as the girl introduced hersalf again, this time in French. Dawn sighed. This girl spoke French really well. "That was really good," Dawn complimented her. "I'll never be that good." Dawn hung her head. She knew she was being hard on herself, but she didn't care. She wasn't in a good mood anyway.
When the girl said something about repeating after her, Dawn asked, "Do I repeat after you with my name or yours?"
OOC: GTG! Dinner time for me! I might be back while dinner is cooking, or I may not. Either way, see you later!

Lauren frowned slightly at the agitation of the second year. She found her a little too loud for her liking but brushed it off. She continued to explain what she meant by the book was not helpful "The book will be helpful in a few lessons because it teaches you how to write it, not pronounce it. Don't be so hard too, french isn't easy. " The Hufflepuff got startled as Dawn let the book go hit the floor. Lauren Let out a small shriek and out of habit took hold of her wand even though she could not do any spells at all.
When dawn Complimented her, she laughed a bit out of nervousness and replied "Thanks I guess. But keep in mind I've been speaking it since I pronounced my first word. I should have a good accent by now." Lauren slowed down what she was going to say and sighed, realizing she had to take things really slow.
"Ok stop saying you're never going to get good. I have had eleven years of practice. So in eleven years if you were spoken to in french constantly then yes you would be as good. You'll never really get totally the accent unless you spend at least 20 years on it which you wont. But, you can get a hold of what people say and can reply somewhat in a few years. So yeah you'll never be as good as me for the next I dont know how many years. But that doesn't mean you won't be able to understand me, and maybe reply. So get your head up, get the book so I can show you and pronounce to you the words. Simple words like "Hello" and "good"." Lauren waited for the girl to take the book again having a serious look on her face and faced her. She opened the book and looked out a few pages before she found the two words and helped her look at them then pronounce them. This was a first for the girl who had never really helped another classmate with work even less taught them a language. She wasn't sure she quite liked it, but she pushed the thought aside and convinced herself to give it a try After all, she was sorted into Hufflepuff so there had to be a reason.
