He'd gotten his work done, Sage, the best friend she was turning it in for him and even helping him skip....he'd definitely treat her to ice cream at Fortescue's this weekend, she deserved. After all, thanks to her he was free to take a much needed nap! The only thing left standing in his way the very long way down to the grounds...

Okay typically it wasn't THAT bad but his ankle hurt. Sore and slightly painful if he walked too much thanks to Sage and his grand adventure last week still, he refused to go to the hospital wing. Even when Sage had brought up how he could get it healed up faster that way than the two weeks it'd need naturally he refused. You'd have to drag him kicking and screaming and Sage, sweet little Sage would never rat him out like that. Oh no, she'd come up with a better idea.

She'd brought the sled, swaddled in a thin blanket and shoving it into his arms the moment he'd given her his homework.

"Hurry up before you're seen!" she'd said.

"But why-"

"Obviously for your ankle silly!"

He sighed, taking a break to lean the still covered sled against a locked doorway as he glared down at the long walk before him. He'd come from the fourth floor, finding himself rather set on not using the very thing that had gotten him hurt in the first place but thinking back...and looking at how much further he had to go...

Would it be that bad?

….maybe not...

He tugged at a strand of messy hair to eye ball the outside through a high window with a small huff, feeling angry at himself for being so damned determined on a nap in the grounds. His eyes going back to the item leaned against the wall even as he moved away to lean over the railing leading to peak over to the remaining stairs. Green eyes narrowing in thought because at least these staircases weren't moving like the changing staircase Sage had decided on before.

"It...actually looks a lot more tame if you think about it that way." he hummed aloud, voice quiet as he started to move back towards the sled. He might as well. Sage had gone through the trouble of lending it after all.

The teacher was rambling in front of the class. William didn't really pay attention, too focused on analyzing every peer in his class. Each study method was consigned on a corner of a parchment. Some were taking notes, other seemed to be falling asleep and his neighbor doodled on the corner of her book. He wrinkled his nose, no way she could be sneaky drawing with a quill on her book. His own pen he had sneak in class was scratching a steady beat.

His gaze slid to the grand window lining the walls, older students going around their business and a class of care for magical creature most likely. He turned to the door just in time to see a silhouette through the frame. His interest captured, he leaned a bit to make out the details. It was slow, painfully so. The boy, actually, limped around lugging something seemingly heavy. Black hair hid his face and a red end yellow tie peeked from his robes. Hit with a air of familiarity, William turned to the front and pretended to listen, waiting for the right moment to get out. Knowing the class would get chaotic the minute the students would get to practice. Incidentally, no one would notice he was gone. Inconspicuously, he began to put his thing back in his bag.

A dull thud made him raise his hand. In a split second he put up a fake unwell expression. When the teacher pointed him, he asked weakly if he could go to the bathroom, pleading he didn't feel well. To add to his little act, he let a shiver run his body. Not really hearing an answer, he took his bag and wobbled to the exit. As soon as he was out of sight, he returned to his usual strut.

A voice pierced the silence of the halls, " It...actually looks a lot more tame if you think about it that way." He immediately recognized the boy with who he argued. Elsian was his name. The gryffondor limped slowly towards a hidden thing leaning on the wall. William quickly reached him and laid a hand on the thing. He asked intrigued, "Hi Elsian! Can I know what would be more tame? And why you are limping? Is it related ?"

His gaze snapped to the other, slightly tensing up as he internally panicked. Hearing a male voice his mind instantly jumped to Mozark somehow finding him out of class again but the fear was thrown away the moment he saw the familiar green of slytherin instead of that ever feared yellow. Relieved he eyed the new comer eyes narrowing in suspicion as he got ready to lie through his teeth on why he was out of class before it actually dawned on him that it was William.

"It's you." he blurted out, lips pulling down slightly in surprise, "shouldn't you be in-" he stopped short, waving away his own words. Here he was skipping class, who was he to judge?

"mm, never mind." he looked at the others hand on the sled, wary as he saw how loose the blanket had become, "nothing...just a potion recipe," he offered simply, hands moving to grip either sides of Sages sled half hazardly balance under the arm not holding his bag. He really hadn't expected anybody to be hear him...he'd need to be more careful in the future.

He moved forward a bit towards the stair case, fidgeting with the blanket to try and wrap it around the sled as he walked when it started to unravel. It wasn't really heavy but the shape was awkward to carry around for him.

"I tripped," he offered, his ankle throbbing back as if in answer. Thinking back to the drop it was honestly a miracle they had gotten off mostly with just some bruises and very rattled heads. He wasn't totally lying either, the sled had tripped over a curve sending them sprawling as both him and Sage tried to abandon ship. He just refused to say how he tripped. "It's not that bad."

It was just a mild sprain but that didn't mean he liked taking the stairs right now. Why did this castle have to have so bloody many stairs? It was ridiculous.

William took a good look at the sheet before Elsian blurted out, "It's you. Shouldn't you be in-"

He raised an eyebrow at the implication. Unlike Elsian, he found himself a reason to wander the halls. It was weak, but a reason anyway. The other waved the question off before answering William's. He crossed his arms and kept his questioning face. While it could be, Elsian didn't look like he was going to do potions. The boy took the sled, hardly lifting it while keeping the sheet covering it. It slid a bit revealing a bit of a ski.

After putting the sheet back up, Elsian revealed his ankle was the product of a fall. Not impossible with the numerous passageways and moving staircases, though the "not that bad " seemed far fetched. To be limping that way carrying something that didn't seem heavy was not a good sign.

"I'm no experts, but I don't think you should put as much weight on it as you are. " William didn't question why Elsian hadn't gone to the infirmary, each had their reason, most were too personal to be shared. " Finally, why are you carrying a sled ? Wasn't it a potion that was more tame? "

He looked at the stairs and winced in sympathy. They were a hassle when your legs were injured. William thought that with all those spells, one could act like an elevator to help students.

Truly contemplating his next actions he bit his lip, fingering the blanket under his arm as he eyed the staircase. He'd just been about to take a step down, for better or for worse just going down the normal way and letting the slytherin come along if he wanted but the others words stopped him.

Elsian blinked at the other boy, mulling over logic with a little head tilt before seemingly coming to a decision. He stepped back, shoving the sled against the rail guard and quickly dragging the sled free from it's blanket cocoon and dragging the thing to lay flat against the ground, dangerously close to the stairs edge. Not too large, not too small, just big enough for two people and made of hardy if faded looking wood.

"Well you're not wrong," he admitted, folding the blanket on top of the sled, "I was holding on to it because of my friend...but now-" he trailed off.

Green eyes looked back to the slytherin as a wicked idea came to mind. He had a feeling the other wasn't the type to snitch but you could never be too sure; besides, something about William still seemed a bit stiff. Like the other could use a relaxing nap...or a bit of fun... He gestured him over, fighting down the smirk that wanted to break out and wrestling with himself to keep up a façade of normalcy.

"Sage, my friend, pawned it off on me after showing me some new magic. The sled just so happens to be the perfect test subject. Wanna see?"

A total lie. Absolute bull, but he played along with it pulling out his wand from his sleeve pocket he'd made. Making it look as if he was just offering to demonstrate the 'spell' on the sled rather than use it first hand. The other didn't have to know that the 'magic' was just Newton's laws.

Yet.

The Gryffindor seemed to ponder a bit, almost taking a step out. William took a step forward intent on at least helping him, but the other stepped back. William watched critically as he uncovered then laid the seemingly sturdy sled near the stairs. It was position in a way on would place it on a hill top.

"Well you're not wrong," Elsian answered. "I was holding on to it because of my friend...but now-" William waited for the rest but it never came. Why would a friend have left Elsian with something to carry while he was clearly injured was one of the few questions rushing to his mind. He leaned forward as if asking for some sort of answer. The Gryffindor beckoned him closer and the Slytherin took tentative steps forward. His curiosity was bound to get him in trouble someday.

"Sage, my friend, pawned it off on me after showing me some new magic. The sled just so happens to be the perfect test subject. Wanna see?" Elsian tone had a slight hint of eagerness, That made William impatient has to what he was about to do. His answer was short, fast and to the point, "Sure ! What is it ?"

When Elsian got his wand out, a part of William wanted to bounce on the sole of his feet. He reigned it in and compose himself, choosing instead to take another few step forward. Being a muggle-born, he wasn't as used to magic as the other and he wanted to learn everything he could. Even if he strongly doubted the sled as the test subject, he couldn't help but let his excitement wash over his mind.

Like a switch the moment the other was close enough for him to grab onto without too much of a fuss, his face broke into a mischievous look, lips curling into a satisfied smirk. His free hand whipped out, grabbing onto the Slytherins wrist before giving a quick tug, forcing the other to land at the front of the sled. The only thing keeping the thing from sliding down a one way ride the way Elsi forced his own weight onto the back of the sled, half kneeling on the thing to keep it flat on the ground. The front dangerously tipping for a moment at the Slytherins sudden weight.

"Might wanna hold on," he offered, leaning forward as the entire thing dipped forward a slight bit in warning.

He wasn't the strongest. He knew as much, he was much better suited to other things and he knew that the only reason he was able to drag the other down like that was out of surprise. So it was of no doubt that while he could keep the sled from moving forward it was only long enough to really let the other grab onto to the flimsy rope and actually settle himself in a somewhat decent position.

A very familiar twist settled in his stomach as his foot slipped. A small yelp almost pushing past as he barely caught himself by twisting to kneel on the sled, said sled shakily swinging back and forth on the stairs as the slip disturbed the delicate balancing act and his body instantly remembered the feeling on falling and the panicked adrenaline from when the staircase had moved at the last second when Sage sent them tumbling down.

It should be safer than the moving staircase had been however.

...in theory.

"Going down," he grinned sharply, not hesitating to give them that tiny little shove needed for them to finally tilt.

William had a bad feeling the moment Elsian's face morphed from composed to downright mischievous. He had no chance to ponder over that drastic change before he was grabbed by the wrist, "Wha..." He had no time to finish his question. He was tugged on the sled, landing with a small "oof". The sled leaned a bit, William grabbing blindly at his side for something to hold on to. His heart bounced before the sled righted itself. A quick look behind told him Elsian's weight was the only thing preventing them from plummeting down the flight of stairs.

"Might wanna hold on," offered the boy behind him. William didn't need to be told twice, he nodded quickly. Adjusting his position in a matter of second, he positioned his feet in front of him and grasped the rope in a white-knuckled grip. He hoped his position was good, or at least okay. He had rarely sled before, and never had the slope been this inclined. A shuddering breath passed his lips. A chuckle escaped him. As much as his caution told him it was a bad idea, he was mostly excited. And scared too but he wouldn't show it.

The sled swung back and fort a second time. A yelp pushed past his lips. If it was possible, William tensed even more on the precarious sled. Breathing hard for a moment, he let it return to the rhythm it previously had. The slytherin glared over his tense shoulder to the gryffindor behind him. That little stunt was entirely his fault, he was the only anchor to the safe floor.

William was still glaring when the other boy announced with a grin,"Going down" . The boy was quick to turn around as the sled tilted down until it hit the first step. Though, William was pretty sure Elsian had pushed a bit to gain a bit of speed. They were beginning their fall, it was to late to back down. His body finally loosened up and it took everything for William to bite back a cry.

He couldn't help the small laugh that escaped him at the others glare. Quiet and airy, with a tinge of maniac and maybe nervousness hovering just underneath as the sudden feeling of weightless came over him. For a moment time seemed slow down, making it feel like time was crawling before him as the sled lurched, slid then bounced a small bit as it hit the stairs, trying to find a balance. Feeling jostled he immediately leaned forward, one hand grabbing the edge of the sled and the other grabbing onto the Slytherins shoulder to stop the other from leaning backwards, immediately remembering how it had helped balance the thing before.

For a moment it seemed like it would bounce again. Then that sluggish crawl seemed to speed up, sending a rush of adrenaline through him as they sped down the staircase with a new speed. He cackled, for that's all it could be called. Feeling almost giddy as the sudden wind from their fall sent his hair and robes whipping around him violently.

It reminded him of the first time he'd gotten on top of the roof. But not before almost breaking his arm. Exciting.

Not nearly as perilous as the last time but somehow just as fun if not a bit nerve wracking.

"Way faster right?" he asked smugly, letting go of his shoulder and instead peaking down slightly to see how far the stairs could go before they would reach the next floor making the sled tilt a bit with a wobble and a small huff as he sat back down, "3 flights," he muttered to himself.

Of course, the staircase they were on couldn't last forever and seeing the end of the line coming up he shoved at the others shoulder lightly to get his attention, "lean!" he laughed, starting to move his body backwards and leaning right "like a broom, lean right!"

Or crash went unsaid.

Time seemed to slow down as the sled lurched forward. It bounced a bit on the first step before it balanced itself on the angle of the slope. William grasped tighter―if even possible―the short rope. He wanted to lean back just as much as he longed to lean forward, get that precarious balance they had seconds before just to get the sensation filing his chest another time.

a hand stopped him from choosing the first option. The gryffindor behind him had grabbed his shoulder after giving them the final push. The hand seemed to ground him, even though William was sure it wasn't meant that way. His tensed muscle fought instinctively against the hand holding him until he bumped into Elsian. He pushed his fear back and leaned forward like the other boy.

The sled started slowly its descent, picking up speed as it traveled down. His hair floated against his ears as well as what sounded like a laugh of pure joy. His robes whipped around his arms and body. Soon enough, his own laugh joined the other's.

"Way faster right?" asked the gryffondor letting go of his shoulder. William almost had to yell his answer back because of the wind screaming in his ear. His answer was muddled with a scream and laugh, " So right! Way funnier too!"

Elsian muttered something behind him. Not paying him any attention anymore, William almost let his body fall forward even more. Only the shove and the order brought him back to reality. His front row seat showed him clear as day why they had to lean. a small french curse pushed its way past his lips. Their ride was ending pretty soon if the acceleration they were still gaining was any tell. A "like a broom, lean right!" cut clean trough the air. William automatically did as he was told. As well as they tried, nothing could've stopped the crash that followed
