Dear Eva,

I wish you were here to see this place! Hogwarts is huge, and it's everything that Ma and Da described it as. The portraits talk and there's ghosts and the stairs move and it's so amazing. The train ride over was pretty uneventful--I was mostly staring out of the window--but do you remember how no one would tell us what the secret thing that happens to first years was? I'll tell you about it, but you probably won't believe me.

We had to row across the Great Lake in little boats! Some of the other first years were terrified and they kept talking about the Giant Squid that lived in the Lake, but since Ma and Da always speak so kindly about it, I wasn't worried. Still, we were lucky to get across the Lake with only a few drops of water on our cloaks!

Anyway, at this point you probably want to know what house I was Sorted into. I know that Ma was betting on Ravenclaw since I'm always trying to be more like Sherlock, and Da kept joking I'd be in Slytherin because of my stubbornness, and you thought I'd be in Hufflepuff, BUTTTTTTTTT I got sorted into GRYFFINDOR!!! You were all wrong, ha!

Well, that's enough about me and my adventures at Hogwarts since you can never be part of them. I wish things were different I don't know what it's like to know this magical world exists and you can never be part of it I'm sorry you'll never be a witch How are you? How's Ma and Da? How's Aunt Orla and Uncle Seamus? I could list all of our relatives, but I'd run out of ink! Ha ha.

I'll come home every holiday and see you, don't worry! We can finish our D&D campaign and rewatch series four of Sherlock. Can't wait to see you again; I miss my cousin-slash-best-friend.

Love you,
xxx

Dear Riona,

Wow, you seem to be having lots of fun! Don't worry about me back at home--I've got a lot of shows to watch and games to play, not to mention school! It's weird to think that this is my last year in primary, though. What is junior high even going to be like? It's kinda... daunting.

Congratulations on being a Gryffindor! You're right, no one expected it, but we should have guessed that the Hat would mistake your stubbornness for courage. Hehe. I never would have guessed that you had to cross the Lake though. Even if the Squid's harmless, the Lake's still dangerous right? What if you're like me, and you can't swim?

We're all doing great here. Aunt Colleen and Uncle Darragh, your parents, are missing you a lot. Aunt Colleen is counting down the days until you return, while Uncle is a lot more quiet than usual. They're treating me a bit like a daughter right now, so that's good at least. My Ma and Da, your Aunt Orla and Uncle Seamus, are also acting a little bit strange. I think they're sad that I'm not there with you. I'm a little bit sad about that too, but it's okay. Stop worrying about me. I'll be alright.

What about you? Have you made any friends yet? I know you have a hard time with that, but I'm sure there will be people who like you! Just don't replace me, okay?

That's it from me. Owl me again soon! I want to hear all about your life at Hogwarts!

Much love,
your cousin Eva
