MARCH 27
A nice afternoon.

Writing inside on a good day was always a drag. On days like these, George watched the sky through the windows, doodling in his notebook. When classes were over, he was dreading the trip to the Hogwarts Headliner office to get to work on his articles for April - there was no greater suffering than sitting in a stuffy room searching for inspiration on a perfectly good spring afternoon. After just a few minutes, George ripped a page from his notebook, leaving a note behind for @Alexx Séverin and @Evelynn Decipio to notify them that their interviews had been moved to the Courtyard.

He was sitting on the edge of the yard, his denim-clad butt in the grass and his notebook sitting on top of his knees. His body was shrouded in a ratty yellow sweater, stained black around the wrist where the baggy sleeves had dipped into his ink pot by mistake. The quill he wrote with looked to be new, perhaps borrowed or stolen. He hadn't begun to write, just marking the top of the page with the date and the purpose of this meeting, which had not yet made itself clear to him. It was to find the news - he knew that much, as that was the whole purpose of a paper - but he wasn't entirely sure what the pair he'd approached could have for him.

More than he had now. And that was all they needed to have. Nothing had happened in the house Hufflepuff except Jake having his flare-up of nightmares, and that seemed more like a personal problem than anything newsworthy. There was the issue of the Americans, too, that remained unresolved. Lazarus Plott had been commentating at the quidditch match and had shown up at lunch last week as well. Allegedly, Lear hadn't been present for a good long while, either. George wasn't entirely convinced of that. Nothing as blatant as that could have gotten past him.

Those idle thoughts dissipated as he dragged a spiraling ribbon of ink across his notebook page, thinking of Jake. Something in the air felt off. He hoped one of his coworkers would arrive soon...

Friday afternoon. New lessons were fresh in the mind, new homework had been assigned to challenge the mind, the full weekend was ahead to practice quidditch and catch up on reading, and students congregated to socialize, making for interesting people-watching. It was Evelynn's favourite time of the week.

On this occasion, however, she would begin it with something a little bit different. Although she wasn't a writer (yet!) she had been ecstatic to be appointed as one of the new Headliner editors and was pleased to have the opportunity to gain some experience within the paper, regardless of the form it took. Both to keep herself to her own high standards and also with the hopes to impress her new boss and colleagues, she took the role quite seriously. Thus, ever since joining, she had made an effort to nip by the "office" every day after class to check-in and see if there was any work for her yet to be done. She had been consistently disappointment. Until today.

Half expecting the same outcome as every day previous, Evelynn's heart skipped when she found a note addressed to her. It had taken more control than she would have like to admit not to run outright to snatch it up. She even paused before unfolding the paper, taking a moment to savor the excitement of what she assumed was her first assignment. Although it didn't end up being quite what she expected (it wasn't an editing job, after all), her anticipation only grew. Henry wanted an interview. With her! What he could possibly want to investigate, she could only ponder, but she vaguely recalled him having accepted a news-worthy assignment. Perhaps this could be an opportunity to raise awareness and recruit further assistance regarding the strange happenings around the school! She wasted little time after that, making haste for the courtyard as requested.

"I see why you requested to meet out here," Evelynn commented pleasantly as she approached her target.

Having been cooped up all day for classes, this was the first she'd truly properly seen of the day's weather. And a glorious day it was. She promised herself right there that she would have to nip out again later for a bit of flying. Rather one to avoid unnecessary grass stains, Evelynn chose not to take Henry's example, but instead leaned herself back against a nearby stone pillar. Curious, her gaze dipped to the journal laid out in his lap, only to be quickly disappointed by the blank pages. Still... She locked that little detail away for later. Journals were fascinating things.

"How are you today, Henry?" She smiled, lifting her gaze back up to search out his.

[quote]The fact that Alexx was about to be a feature in her own God-damn paper was either embarrassing (showing that there was no one else who gave a damn about the Headliner) or thrilling (proving that she was a star). Alexx didn't know which. Needless to say, she half-heartedly agreed to the situation, because apparently it was too hard to hunt down anyone, literally anyone, who was there on the scene.

Alexx could have named at least 5.

And in all her time at Hogwarts, Alexx had never actually been to the courtyard. She had no desire to; no need to. In her honest opinion, it was too early in the day (didn't matter what time it was, any time was too early) for her to be wandering the grounds and getting ready to do an interview. There were better hours for this, such as midnight, where she would be in her right mindest. But no, George picked now, and right out in the daylight.

"Sorry to keep you waiting," Alexx offered as she strolled in, not particularly caring about the situation at hand. Her task was all too simple: give them the information and go; she had no reason to want to stick it out and chit chat. The life of Alexx Severin was a busy and demanding one, and there were far too many things afoot for her to worry about... This.

Looking between George and Evelynn, neither of which she knew well and only knew for the reason of being their boss, she tried to think back to her days as a younger student, just to see if she could have any sympathy for them and not hate them for their age. It didn't work.

"Anyway, what do you wanna know? Personally I have some conspiracies about who all is behind this; I don't know about what else has happened, but an attack on Slytherin? Seems to me like a load of Gryffindor crap. Well, it isn't funny, because it woke me up! You can quote me on that, too. Whoever is behind ruining my sleep, I will find them, and they will hear a few words. Everyone is so dramatic about this, when we don't even have all the facts to prove that it isn't just some pre-mature April Fool's Day prank." It was true; everyone in the Common Room had panicked, and Alexx desperately tried to keep it under control before failing miserably. They didn't know shit about what was really happening, but everyone made impulsive decisions that could have cost them their lives.

If Alexx didn't have PTSD by the time she left Hogwarts, then call her invincible.

"Hello, Evelynn!" George sang in reply to her, smiling up at the girl as she joined him in the courtyard. He was pleased that she was pleased with it - although this wasn't a first ever impression, given that they had worked together on the Headliner a bit, it was still the first real extra-curricular interaction they'd had in a sense.

The girl's gaze wandered to his journal, and he moved his hands so she could take a look. Unfortunately blank, with all of his personal secrets locked earlier in the book. His mother had urged him to keep a journal so the family could look over his magical experience. George was concerned about the statute of secrecy when it came to that. Wouldn't do to be sent to Azkaban on his first term. "I'm just dandy. How are you?"

Alexx's entrance made George sit straight upright, giving her a respectful bow of his head. While Evelynn was his peer, Alexx was his commanding officer, and boy did she run a tight ship. In their brief time together in a working relationship, she had impressed him a great deal. She was the editor-in-chief, after all. She had a letter on every issue, and she seemed to know everything there was about how to disperse a newspaper. The look on George's face when she addressed him could have been awe.

The starstruck routine came to an end real quick when she started talking, barking out information at him without even asking how the day was. Still, George took diligent notes of every word she said. "It woke me up!" a direct quote from miss Alexx herself...

"Sorry- Alexx, what woke you up? What was the attack on Slytherin- and oh, tell me your conspiracies, too!" He dipped his quill in his ink pot again. This was going to be an incredibly enlightening afternoon. A load of Gryffindor crap, she said? At that note, he turned to Evelynn, raising an eyebrow at her. "A load of Gryffindor crap? What do you think of that - and has anything so sensational happened in your lion-hearted house, Evelynn?"

Just one question in, and George was already thrilled. He was starting to see how the Daily Prophet could get by reporting so many half-truths as it did back in the day - it was bloody interesting just to hear what people had to say, even if they had no clue what they were talking about. The young Hufflepuff was fidgeting in his seat on the ground, spreading the grass stain on his bottom further as he did so. It was exciting to know the news.

"Well enough, I suppose," Evelyn replied placidly.

Small pleasantries was all it was. It had hardly been that long since the recent Gryffindor-Slytherin Quidditch game, and she was still nursing a bit of a veiled temper. Although she was well over the physical injuries she had sustained on that day, it would take some time before the events of the match were forgotten. In particular, the image of the very individual who was to be meeting the pair of them in that courtyard barreling towards her with what had felt at the time like murderous intent. As content as she was to meet up with the Hufflepuff, she couldn't help but stiffen slightly at the sound of their boss' greeting, lips thinning with the off-handed jab at her own house.

"Wait... attack?" Evelynn commented, expression shifting from annoyance to curiosity once she had gotten past the insult and her elder's words had sunk in. "What attack?"

Her gaze flicked then from the editor-in-chief to aspiring journalist, then. She paused momentarily, weighing his questions, a quip on the tip of her tongue to address the first. To her better judgement, however, she let it slide and chose instead to address the latter.

"I'm not sure about sensational, Henry," she began, making use of the boy's surname as was typical of her. "It's not as though we've been attacked in any way." Storm-gray eyes flicked over to the blonde, lingering perhaps just a little longer than they usually might have upon her uncannily perfect visage, before glancing back. "But there definitely has been a few interesting things, although not really anything new, really. Before the holidays, we found that some of the tapestries in our dorm had been bewitched — apparently by Professor Lear, if the portraits of Miss Minerva and Sir Cadogan are telling the truth — to hide some sort of message about Mr. Potter. At least that's what we think.

"And we discovered some interesting... letters... in Professor Lear's office. I can't believe he's still missing. And somehow some people haven't even noticed this. And there still hasn't been any kind of announcement by the faculty. I've been trying to get this story out with the Headliner for months, but nobody has seemed interested at all in it. Which I just don't get, frankly. There's a love letter between him and Dolores Umbridge, for goodness sake. Who wouldn't want to write about that. I mean, it was a code for something else, sure, and probably not a real love letter.. But who knows?"

As she began, it became hard for her to stop. It was quite evident that she held a certain passion about this topic, and more information than she knew what to do with. She had been dying to conspire with someone about all of this. Meenauh, the now prefect, had been her first attempted confidante and co-conspirator, but the upperclassman had seemed to want little to do with her. Nor had there been much progress from the various Liberation meetings. The redhead certainly couldn't manage the investigations all on her own, however; especially not with the increasing amount of homework as the year approached its end, and the spike in practices leading up to the most recent Quidditch games. Perhaps this could mark a renewal in her scheming.

"But anyway, what's this about an attack on Slytherin?" she continued, fixing her attention onto Severin, typical interrogation protocol be damned, apparently. A speculative expression had crossed her features, the gears of her mind already turning in anticipation. And like George, she pulled from her bag a journal and pencil, already flipping open to a blank page to jot down thoughts and important bits of information. To the keen eye, they would notice labeled coloured tabs and several page markers. "I wonder if it ties in somehow..."
