Elementary Civics
George stared down at his parchment, making idle marks around the notes he'd taken. A thick tome sat open beside him - the history of the Wizards' Council - but he had long since run out of patience for it. Instead, he sketched little flowers, trying to imitate his roommate. He couldn't recall the shapes in all the magic beasts just as well, though. Nor could he recall the structure of the council, or which kings had done what with it, or when it even started. The Wizengamot was alright, since it was still around, but the whole history of it was worthless.
What good was it for him to know this stuff? These wizards were all long dead. It'd be much more impressive if they weren't, but he had only heard of Nicolas Flamel doing something like that. He stayed alive for 600 years or something close to it. George began drawing an old man. Would he like to be alive that long, he wondered? He rubbed his eyes as he thought about it. Hopefully he would make it to 20 before he started thinking about the next few hundred.
The young Hufflepuff lifted his head, tapping the tip of his quill in a rhythm against he parchment as he looked around at the other students who had stuck around after the lesson to complete some studying. It was a thin crowd, but the sort who stayed in class tended to be the intelligent sort. Or the exact opposite - but it tended toward the former. He exchanged pointed glances with many such students, waiting for one to catch his eye...
