Things Are Never Lost to You PV Ruby Closed

“Things are never lost to you; you are lost to them. If ever in need of a thing that has lost you, simply stop hiding from it.”
― Shannon Hale, A Wonderlandiful World

She didn't know where she had put it, where she had mislaid it, where she had seen it last. And that was driving her mad. The ring her mum had given her on her tenth birthday was precious, a symbol of motherly love. It had been made of a stone her father had plucked out of the sea. Not to mention, Highland Marble was known to be lucky to all those who carried it. After the series of events of this year, Ruthie needed luck more than ever. She simply had to find her ring. But her search of the Sycamore dorm had turned up fruitless, and each classroom was likely filled with newly forgotten things, abandoning her ring to some forgotten closet. She could, theoretically, in the summer have a new one set in silver, just the same, but that would require a new stone and money. Money was something the Greers did not have. She didn't want to think of the financial pain she might inflict.

But time went on, and she was forced to go about her daily routine like anyone else. Of course, any shimmer of light green caught her attention, but that wasn't very often. The castle was, for the most part, a place of more neutral colors like beige, tan, and dark pine. Perhaps the ring should pop out brightly amongst this darker background, but so far it had yet to show itself. Still, a girl could hope.

The Ravenclaw made her way down to the Great Hall in her robes to start the day. Every once in awhile as she walked down the stairs, she'd reach and rub the ring finger on her right hand. It felt so naked now. She wished that it might appear somewhere as she walked--on a step or down a corridor. But, alas, she made it to the Great Hall without any trace of her missing jewelry.

Once she stepped through the double doors, she figured she may as well eat. So, she walked over and took a seat down at the Ravenclaw day like she had been doing all year. It was pretty quiet and she didn't manage to spot anyone she knew. This wasn't completely uncommon. She was used to early starts at home, and coming down for breakfast earlier than the others was something that happened more often than not. Still, it would have been nice to ask people if they had seen her ring, even if they almost definitely had not since the last time she had asked them yesterday.

Gritting her teeth, she pulled several pieces of toast onto her plate along with an omelette and a couple sausages. Before raising her fork, she pulled out her copy of Magical Theory from her bag and set it on the table. Peeling back the cover, she ran her fingers across the pages until she found out where she had left off. After pressing the page down with her left hand, she began to eat, looking over to the page every so often so as to multitask. Reading when it was quiet seemed most opportune, and if it took her mind off her missing, that was all the better.
