He carefully held her hand again, gently pulling her into the waltz position. He looked determined to try again. Carefully looking up at him, she rested her hand on his chest once more. Maybe this time it would go better. Alex seemed to be focussing, concentrating. His feet nervously shuffled over the sand. He...He's really trying his best, isn't he? In the process, he didn't seem to notice how close he was pulling her.

Slightly averting her gaze as it flushed red, she let him guide her. But soon stuff went out of hand. Before she knew it, she got dragged to the floor, pressed against the Prince. 'Wh-WHOA!'

And again. There they were. On the floor. Except, this time the other way around. Nico didn't land as hard as she did before. Instead she landed soft. It was warm too. Smelled...pretty.. nice... She could hear his heartbeat. It went quite fast. Soothing.

WH- Swiftly, she got up as fast as she could. Quickly brushing the bottom of her dress back to its original position, setting a few steps back. Quite embarassed. 'I-I'm okey, yes. S-Sorry..' She wasn't entirely sure if the fall was her fault. She pretty much left everything up to him, as how waltzing worked. 'A-Are you okey?' She held her hands at the bottom, firmly keeping the fabric under control. No breeze would do whatever it wished to.

She carefully loomed over him, to check if he was okey but he soon got up. He seemed to be fine. Good. Honestly, she felt kinda worried. She couldn't help it. He handed her back her bottle and she clutched it nervously in her hands, pressing it against her chest.

'I-It's fine. I.. guess sand isn't very easy to dance on.' She smiled softly as to reassure him. Nico wasn't used to it either. Her feet slipped away often and it wasn't easy to keep a decent balance when holding onto someone.

She looked around and took another sip of her butter beer. Just hanging out here would be nice. Maybe they could sit down on the shore and watch the lake. 'Well... I don't mind just chatting. Besides it.. it isn't really cold out. So that's fine by me.' She nodded at him in agreement, before looking further down the shoreline. 'Do you... wanna sit here or ..' She saw another big rock, sitting at the edge of the shoreline and the foresty path. 'Or we can sit over there? Might be a nice view on the lake.'

You're gonna need a bigger boat

@Nico Shymane and @Alex Cloverfield continued to do their mushy stuff. Despite the chaos all around them, they were in their own little world. There was a boy getting his ass handed to him on a silver platter along the shore and another boy was attacking women lurking in the shadows. They were missing out on all of the fun. If they were going to miss all the action, they should make some action of their own – kiss gosh darn it!

Meanwhile, @Ruka Tân was emotionally exhausted and with that likely came a physical fatigue as well. The castle and a soft, warm bed were both likely sounding pretty good right about then for the young Gryffindor. Meanwhile @Donnovan Perrywinkle was going through an emotional crisis – how he was a burden, always negative, that his contents were not as described. Where Alex and Nico’s first date might be just starting, their evening looked like it was about to end. The relevance of Edric being beaten to a bloody pulp or Howard, well at this point being Howard… which was synonymous with angry, was being destructive towards some unknown woman.

Which brings us to our troublemakers…

@Thomas LeStrange was a drunken, rambling fool but he was also not waist high in water as Howard White performed his one ‘good deed’ of the millennia as he rescued the pickled fool from tipping over and drowning in water shallow enough that his feet touched. The rescue was clumsy, they both fell onto the muddy shore. The Slytherin drunkard left to recover there, Howard would disengage as he maintained the persona of a lone wolf. Perhaps women liked the solitary, angry types – the overuse of testosterone, the propensity for violence, the general lack of interest. Yes, women were strange. But unlike the girl in the lake, this one had no interest in getting to know a schoolboy such as him in that way.

Yes, there was a strange glow that came off her. It was the reflection of moonlight on her silver hair and on her armor. Yes, steel armor with a hint of blue that seemed to be reflected in the night. Her features shadowed, but like her voice the boy would not know her face either. The boy drew his wand and as he did so, the woman reached for her hip. She was drawing her weapon, but her weapon was not a wand but rather a whip. With a snap, a long black tendril would reach out as fast as a viper’s bite and attempt to coil around the boy as she was launched back by his flippendo. “You damn fool!” She shouted as she tightened her grip on the leather in her hand and tugged. “Do you really want to get yourself killed!” She snapped. He would her a crash through the brush, it was likely her body breaking through the branches, followed by a singular clank.

The whip would grow slack about whatever body part it had wrapped itself around, if any and retreat into the darkness like a black slithering snake. If he did not know better, it would be as if it was alive. The sound of trudging footsteps could be heard tramping through the wooded area in their direction. An inhuman hiss would emit from the mouth of the strange woman. “It’s coming…” A glint of steel in the wood several feet away and a mane of snow that was more like a cape than a head of hair reaching what one could suppose was likely mid-thigh. Unique whatever she was. She was not about to pursue Howard however. “Oi!” A departing voice called out. “Not liking me finding the corruption, got under your skin,” there was a hint of laughter in the voice as it got some distance. There was also something else, crashing through the brush.

Whatever it was, it was big.

Howard would a glimpse of it, whatever it was, it did not seem like it could be human. A hunched over carriage. Spindly limbs. Tall, but not like a tall man… like something else. The light did not reflect off of it, in fact what was outstanding was that there was just darkness, an absence there. And it was in pursuit, just not of Howard.

Then there was the shoreline, the scene of a beat down more than a confrontation. To Patrick Kowalski’s benefit he did not seem particularly keen to hit a girl, but it was not entirely rules out either. He was more frustrated than anything else, by Marcia’s rejection and how that made him feel powerless and alone and by the embarrassment he felt when a couple of little kids made him stumble in front of his lady. He had taken that frustration out on the younger and very much weaker @Edric Banes. It felt good to be stronger. It felt good to force his will onto others. It felt good to salve his bruised ego. It felt good to release this frustration before it built up inside of him any longer. Each blow was like opening to top of a shaken soda bottle, a burst of air released with each twist, then the cap tightened before the contents spilled out. This would be done again and again until the pressure was no more and the contents within were flat. Yes, Patrick was like a bottle of shaken pop and this was his release.

There was not much left after Edric was rendered unconscious. He felt—annoyed, even a bit sad. Not over the wimp on the ground or the terrible expression the Hufflepuff was making. It was the fact that the old broad was right about everything. Patrick grit his teeth and the sopping wet soles of his shoes scraped against the ground as he took a step away from the felled boy. Glen shouted something about a ‘detention’ – worth it he concluded. He would give the Prefect a smirk that plainly said – don’t fall asleep anytime soon kiddo. Little did they know, this was not going to be their meeting with Patrick Kowalski.

Enter brother Banes. Patrick was familiar with Harry Banes, not that they were on casual, speaking terms but he knew the face and the name. “That’s your brother?” Patrick echoed before letting out a sarcastic laugh. “Dumb little F’er thought he had a chance against me, he’ll rouse,” he added dismissively. It was true, Edric would live. His ego a bit bruised, but fair-is-fair. They made Patrick look bad in front of Marcia, now it was his turn to have Edric lick the floor in front of his girlfriends. “Grabbing a butterbeer,” he sighed. “May as well get something out of this shit-night.”

That was confirmation, Patrick was the source of Edric’s injuries. He walked towards Harry, chortling like he was a bit cracked in the head. There was no warning with a sucker punch, just a tightly clenched fist.

Howard felt the familiar tingle of power course through his arm, surging out of his wand as the spell cracked towards the strange women’s direction.

SNAP!

There was no time to react. A flash of black would be seen out of the corner of his eye. The boy’s free hand would instinctively reach for his throat as the whip wrapped around his neck, immediately cutting off his air intake. “Guhh!” The only sound that would escape his lips as his face reddened, his eyes bulging in shock. Unfortunately for young Howard, this women had a good grip. His head snapped backwards as the momentum of his spell knocked the women backwards into the bush, jerking him forward as she fell. He reached out with his arms as his knees crashed to the ground.

Howard gasped as the leather unraveled around his neck, retreating into the darkness back to its owner. He sat back on his legs, his wand arm stretched out pointing into the shadows as his eyes scanned the scene before him in frantic movements.  He scurried to his right as footsteps crashed through the wooded area in front of him, throwing his body to the ground in a prone position. A glint of steel would catch his eye as the moonlight reflected off her armor. He aimed his wand at the mysterious lady.

“Ksssss!”

The noise caused the boy to freeze. It was unlike anything he had ever heard come from another person. She seemingly called out to another in human tongue as she moved forward into the woods. Pushing up with his hand, Howard began to follow. However another sound would stop him in his place once more. He couldn’t see it, but damn he could hear it. Something was crashing through the brush as the sound of crushing tree limbs met his ears. Whatever it was...it was big!

Howard squinted into the darkness as his eyes tried to follow the sound. Just then, for the briefest of moments he would spot it. The sight sent a chill down his spine. Had he been standing, it would have towered over him, even though it seemed like it was hunched forward. Long scraggly limbs clawed thier way forward as it made it way in hot pursuit. He blinked hard at the sight of it. Unlike everything else around it, the moonlight did not illuminate it. It was as if a tiny black hole had taken creature shape, there was simply just a void as it moved along.

Howard rose to a crouched stance. With a deep breath he steadied himself. A lone wolf he may be, but whatever this thing was spelled danger. With the Blossom Ball in full swing, the majority of the student body was gathered on the grounds. He gave follow as quietly as he could.

Serena heard the previously quiet Prefect finally speak up. His first word was threatening everyone with a detention, which definitely included herself. She used magic outside of class, she knew it included her - even though she did not agree with it. Nonetheless, she did not say anything. She was doing what she thought was right. Whatever the consequences of her actions were now... well, it was simply too late to worry about it.

She left the unconscious boy in the Prefect’s hands and rushed to retrieve the water. At least he would likely be safe in his hands, right? Either way, she went to get the water before returning to Edric. Serena threw the water over the unconscious boy’s face. As she did, she heard someone shout nearby. Very nearby, actually... At her? Serena’s head quickly spun around to look up to see another older student shouting. It was a different student but he was clearly older than she was. This boy was shouting at the Prefect, it seemed.

The Hufflepuff blinked for a moment, confused as to what was even going on. Below her, Edric was gaining consciousness, finally. But something snapped within her. Serena stood up, clutching her wand once more. She immediately stepped closer towards Glen and the older boy, almost positioning herself between them, “What the fuck do you think you’re doing?” She asked the older boy, her wand clearly out and aggressively pointing at him.

Did she think she could beat him? Hell no. Did she think she was better than him physically or magically? God no. Would that stop her? It would not.

Serena had had enough of these threatening bullying horrible older boys that seemed intent on shouting and hurting people for no apparent reason. She had no idea why this guy was yelling at Glen or who he was. All she knew was that she was done with these older students thinking they could bully the younger ones. All she knew was Glen was innocent and did not deserve getting beaten up by this guy who was clearly threatening him aggressively. She glared at him to the best of her ability, despite the fact that she was terrified that he was going to swing his fist directly in her face for this. She knew there was no way to win this fight but... She had to stand up for the innocent, right?

Hufflepuffs may not fight. But they were loyal. And Serena really did not want to deal with two unconscious boys as a result of two older bullies.

Interacting with Serena, Edric, Edric's brother & NPC
HOW had this day turned out the way it did?? Glen could barely stop himself from shaking (whether from shock or anger or fear, he didn't know. Some kind of adrenaline, certainly) as he stared in disbelief at [Harry] yelling at him. Where had the second older student even come from?

Who was... oh, right, Eddy must be Enric... Although, Eddy made it doubtful that Enric was his actual- Not important. What had he done with 'Eddy'? Nothing, though that might be the problem. He was a prefect for Merlin's sake! He should've prevented this (or at least tried to). And instead, he'd been useless. (Maybe he shouldn't be a prefect after all.)

His first instinct had been to step between his classmate and the new guy but he quickly aborted the movement when the boy seemed to be ready to attack him instead and actually defensive of his classmate on the ground. Still, he would not let another student wail on his classmate, no. If the boy were to try something to attack [Edric] he'd be ready! However, it didn't seem to be necessary.

“I didn't-” was as far as he got before the Hufflepuff returned to throw water in E-whatever-his-name-was' face. Several things were happening seemingly simultaneously now. While the girl (how was she that brave?) stepped between him and Eddy's friend, his classmate regained consciousness. At the same time a new confrontation between the two upper years seemed to be brewing. (Brewing was probably an understatement.) Glen was just left feeling wholly overwhelmed. Again.

“You, uh, got into a fight and got knocked out, I guess... Trying to stop that guy” he weakly answered his classmates question with a nod toward [Patrick], “I... ” He stopped. He honestly didn't remember if the book (at least he thought it was a book) had been saved or not. He winced and with a nod to Serena continued: “Uhm, she defended you.” Giving a helpless shrug, Glen internally cursed his own uselessness.

He almost asked if he was okay, but who was he kidding. Of course the guy wasn't okay after the beating he took.

Feeling ashamed Glen would shut up and stare meekly at the ground. If Patrick and Harry devolved into another fist-fight, he would try to overcompensate for his earlier failure to put a stop to things and get between them to try and get them to stop so as to avoid any further fighting, possibly mumbling something about further detentions.

This thread also finishing up in terms of moderation. This places people onto different paths.
Serena's glare was like an angry puppy that wanted a bone but forever reason could not reach it. She was about as threatening as a rabbit facing off against a fox. With an accusatory glare and a harsh word, the Hufflepuff would point her boom-stick at Patrick. Patrick would give the former Head Girl a wide grin, he looked half mad with a light in his eyes. Edric's older brother was clocked in the jaw, it should not have been enough to knock the older boy over despite the power and the force behind Patrick's attack but that was the point of a sucker-punch, to catch someone unaware (and because Edric did not post). "Too little... too late little girl," Patrick announced as he walked in her direction almost daring her to try and hurt him.

He was done with this display of manliness and superiority. Marcia was slow to warm, but that was part of what he liked about that cold-hearted bitch. He would win her over in time. His martial and casting prowess coupled with his good looks and the fact that her other potential paramours would have an unfortunate accident with his fist in the coming years... she would eventually see things his way. Might makes right

Edric had been roused, his brother incensed. Serena was working her way up to her most powerful attack -- tears. The Prefect had tasked himself with giving everyone detention: oh the paperwork. He would look forward to that owl, hopefully the twerp would proctor it.  Whatever. He eyed Glen before he left, "I will be seeing you in the common room." It was not a threat, rather a statement of his mortality. Glen's life in the Slytherin House was about to become rather unfortunate
Patrick has left the thread. Permission to Glen Pope and Edric Banes to control this NPC and use him to torment their characters in the form of bullying. Permission also to Marcia Kingsleigh to control this NPC and use him to poorly try to earn her love via forms of bullying her peers. He will be relevant in future adventures involving Slytherin
As for Howard, he had a close encounter of a different kind. Their tussle while brief had caught the attention of something else. Howard had started a fight he should not started, but there was something else that was about to finish it. The woman, whoever she was bolted and there was something in pursuit. A scream. "Sectumsempra!" A curse. A roar. The sounds of claws scraping, no ripping through wood. The ping of metallic armor being struck hard. Another scream. The woman was in the midst of a fight with the darkness, that much was obvious. With heavy breathing and a shaky word "...Confringo!" The voice sounded desperate but followed by a bright light and a radiant heat that could be felt from even where Howard sat.

Then there was movement, away from the lake. Away from Howard, circumscribing the lake, headed in the general direction of the castle. If Howard was mad enough to try and follow the chaos, he would notice something immediately -- he did not need to be a hunter to follow her trail. Whatever was in pursuit of the woman made a clear path. Brushes were ripped from the ground, leaves and twigs kicked up exposing the dry, bare earth. The bark was ripped from the trees. They went south

Then there was evidence of a struggle, the leaves on broken branches and even the trees glistened. Under the glow of the Lumos charm he would see the crimson fluid, it was blood. Someone was hurt. not far from the site of an obvious scuffle was burnt trees, the blackened trunks and still glowing embers of trees and thorny bushes told the tale of a firestorm that had went off moments earlier. The fire might catch, it was always a possibility. What was a party at Hogwarts without fire

The path from here less obvious, Howard would hear some movement still. Be it the creature or the woman, that was impossible to know for certain.
If Howard does attempt to find the woman, he would find her near a Hogwarts entrance in a fresh thread. Yes, she is (like the Hags) a relevant potential story, just not a Hag. If that happens, let me know. Otherwise she will crash another outdoor thread.
