CL BROOM RACING - GRYFFINDOR vs. RAVENCLAW - FALL 2022

With a final roar, the giant pulled himself free from his prison. He knew the stupid plants stood no chance against him. They were slow roots trying to overcome a mountain, and that mountain had legs and arms to fight with. Even teeth to bite with should it prove necessary. Hugh hopped from one thick branch to another, snatched his own flying tree from the vines' grasp, and jumped back in the race.

As he flew forward, he noticed Bloom colliding with another shape and saw her fall down to the ground. Catching up with the other racer, Hugh found himself racing side-by-side with his old captain. The old team back together then. "Stay down Silverton! Some birds aren't born to fly!" Nicholas gave him a stupid grin, to which answered with a smirk. Noticing none other than the Hunter kid close in on them, Hugh decided it was time for another team-roar. "RAAAAAAAAAAAOOOOOOGHHH!!"

The race was slowly whittling down to an end. And although Ravenclaw saw their fair share of struggles in this match, Ari knew this map was difficult and Gryffindor was a team to be reckoned with. They would learn from this race and become stronger. He had faith in that.

He strained his vision to look ahead at what was going on. He couldn't see Clair and Harper anywhere, so they must've still be lost in the maze. He knew Bloom was barely hanging onto consciousness, and he feared she was knocked out beyond the maze. Maybe it would be good to check on her after this race was done. Hunter was also beyond the maze, and hopefully he wasn't stuck somewhere. Ari was way too behind to save the team at this point, but after this was done, he'd make sure everyone was okay.

This race wasn't her best. But at least Della was able to get through the maze in one try. Judging by the confused looks of some Ravenclaw racers she passed, not everyone was finding it so easy. However, the fog that set on her immediately upon exiting was disorientating. Her broom became harder to fly—she hoped this race would be over soon and someone from her team would cross the finish line already.

The race seemed to be almost over. Another Gryffindor was almost to the finish line. Marina had not done very well, but at least the rest of her team had.

She would have to write to her little sisters after the race. Marina couldn’t wait to hear what they would say.

This round of racing has a violent start as several birds pelt the half-giant with improvised projectiles. It’s a solid hit from Bloom, using the last of her energy to toss a weighty piece of debris at the half-giant before collapsing due to the wounds she sustained earlier in the race. It’s a bit of a grim scene, but thankfully the nurse and some interns are on standby to make sure the event doesn’t become too lethal. Hunter’s swing goes wide and flies off toward the stands, the heavy branch breaking against a tree and sending splinters over a few of the spectators. The unsuspecting Marina doesn’t get away without a scratch, either, as Ari throws a particularly pigeon-poopy branch in her direction, inflicting both physical injury and psychological on the poor lion.

Clair is finally free of the maze, though she does not push the advantage, perhaps content knowing that she has surpassed the greatest challenge that this cursed course has to offer.

UNIT 16 – Moderate Narrow Passageway

Thunk. The pair of lionesses simultaneously smack onto the edge of the passageway, not able to fit through shoulder to shoulder.

UNIT 17 – Hard Vines

Della and Marina get stuck in the vines.

Their next obstacle brings them to a gentle stop as they are wrapped in vines, the last surviving plant matter of the obstacle coiling them up and leaving them hanging in the air as they watch their teammates fly ahead. Well, it’s better than what happened to Bloom, at least.

UNIT 20 – Giant Squid

Nick and Hugh are grabbed by da squid.

Nick and Hugh boldly fly ahead for about ten feet before two whiplike tentacles snatch them out of the air and bring them to a halt. It’s likely that the pair of strong boys would have wriggled out if they’d had the time – however, Xailah has finally returned to her broom and is making the final move over the finish line. She flies through the final unit of the race and George waves his wand and mutters and incantation, sending out a shower of christmas crackers that pop and glitter to signify the end of the race.

“And she’s done it!” he calls. “Xailah Alptraum has crossed the finish line! This race goes to Gryffindor!”
