Things were getting hot. Quite literally. Ripping the blindfold off of his face with an aggressive tug and tossing the offending item away to the ground, he was oh so displeased to find his sleeves wreathed in red-yellow flame, a gauntlet of his lack of attention. No matter.

He needed to move, get some cover between the other team- some semblance of a human shield- in some attempt to cover Alexei. Two already down, luck was not on their side. But he would just have to barrel right through that, no matter how futile it looked. His granpappy ain't raised no quitter, after all.

"BLAST IT!!!" Neculai lost all of his patience. None of his spells had hit whatsoever in the entire game. "Well done, Neculai! You can cast spells, too bad you can't aim..." He could hear the imaginary laughing of the opposing team and the disappointed sighs of his teammates in his head... "You're useless!" "Ugh... Why do we have him on our team!" "If a muggle was bound on a chair and placed right in front of him he wouldn't even be able to hit it"

"N-no... I-It's not true..." The Dhampir tried to fight the negative thoughts in his head. "J-just focus... You're bound to at least hit one of them..." Once again he raised his wand.

Glinting eyes swept over the ranks of the enemy as soon as one of their rooks was removed from the board, having fallen just moments before as a result of Evanore's and her Flipendos. Three of the enemy were still standing, but Karilyna didn't care. All she could see was that the white team's queen stood, unprotected, directly in her line of fire. How perfect. She'd actually been logical, realizing that if the now-unconscious rook was eliminated, she and others would have a chance, as well as an easier time, targeting the queen. And now, their spells had paid off, leaving the queen in her range ─ actually, in the range of three of her other teammates as well.

She could waste no time. Having now seen several rounds of strategy, the Thunderbird was positive someone would soon step in front of the queen, shielding him from attacks like Evanore was doing for her, and so they had to attack now. "Flipendo." Again. She barely even had to put thought into the incantation and wand motion, concentration already razor-sharp. After all, she'd cast the spell so many times in the past twenty minutes or so that it had become practically an automatic response. And it hit, sending the white team's queen backwards with force which little Karilyna surely could've only mustered with magic.

Despite some missed spells yet again, the queen glanced around at her team confidently. Perhaps not everything had gone perfectly, but they were definitely in a good position.

Chess Combat, Game TWO

The closer to the end, the more spectacle unfolds. Johannes basically jumps to another cell, when he's caught with the effect of the Levitation Charm, making his clothes go up in the air, with himself included. This would leave his Queen exposed despite standing being in the air in front of him. But what a turn — the Queen (Alexei) got hit, though Karilyna might have missed, with the same charm and went floating nearby, those just a little bit lower. This would still make the two girls (Karilyna and Evanore) impossible to target him. But Alexei was still exposed for Erik and Neculai, though this time not being able to effectively dodge their attacks. Which he did quite successfully before going up in the air.

Raine's torturing Evanore with tickling was a secret weapon of the Team, which wasn't proving too effective by now, but maybe a game-changer in the remaining 3 minutes of the game? Maybe her casting distracts Erik standing nearby and casting spells that backfire and can send him out? The outcome can be unexpected.

It was easy enough to predict what the boy in front of her was going to do. If he was paying any attention at all, it was clear his Queen was getting assailed from all sides, so even just stepping in front of him to shield him from the worst of the attacks coming from the Ilvermorny girls might save his team. Granted, with the match drawing to a close and two of the White Team's players out, there wasn't much of a chance of them winning.

Logically, she needed to stop him from doing that to benefit her team. The spell that came to mind was Wingardium Leviosa. It worked, just not in time, and the boy was left hovering by his clothes in front of his Queen. Well, that was a shame, but again, it hardly mattered. All the Black Team had to do was avoid taking hefty amounts of damage and this game was theirs.

"Flipendo!" The Ravenclaw said it with so much vigor and focus that he was absolutely sure he would hit. But it just seemed he didn't have any luck in this game... Or didn't he? Although he had been burned, he had kept his cool. In fact, the other him, hadn't come out to play. So there was still a silver lining after all. Maybe he couldn't prove to Bridget that he now was an asset to the team, but no matter. At least he proved he wasn't a liability. It would seem they were entering the last of the game so once again he would try. Pale fingers took his glasses off. "Ah! This was the problem after all!" It seemed that there was a smudge on his glasses and maybe that was why his aim was off. Quickly cleaning his glasses and putting them back on he once again aimed the cherry wooden wand.

In between sneezes and laughter, Evanore did her best to assess their situation and hope to find the best possible action for the last bit of the match. They had been doing well, now they just had ro maintain their position in hopes of the other team not managing to gain the upper hand. Keeping your mind one step ahead at all times was not an easy task, and strategy was never a strength of Evanore’s. Still her team had worked well together, and the game was not over yet. Evanore did her best to keep her mind focused for the last remaining part of the match, hoping to get through the sniffles and laughing fits.

Clearly the spells started to work, however, this was not the results Erik had been hoping for. Before he knew it he flew flat on his back which caused the air to leave his lungs. By Merlin's beard that hurt!, he groaned between hasted breaths. He tried his hardest to fill his lungs back with air. Once he felt his legs were steady enough to carry his wait he reached to his full height. This guy was done for. That much was sure. He would reign down hell on him. With a look that could kill he resumed the game.

Time was running out fast, slipping between her fingers faster than she'd realized ─ but Karilyna wasn't worried in the slightest. Well, perhaps she was slightly concerned for her teammates whose spells continued to spontaneously backfire, unnecessarily tiring them out, but at least they were all still standing. A few certainly looked closer to passing out than others, but it was pretty clear that the team as a whole was in better shape than their opponent; after all, they had five players, and the other team had three. As long as her team fought on, not faltering nor losing concentration, Karilyna was pretty positive they could win.

Okay, but the match was still far from over. Thinking quickly, the girl aimed for the other queen again. "Wingardium Leviosa!" The words were bizarre, even to her own ears. She'd seen her Flipendos hit time after time, eventually knocking out players altogether, and knew they were powerful. Still, she couldn't afford to let him move ─ behind a teammate, probably, and thus receiving protection ─ and so hopefully levitating him would keep him in place. Logic was a thing, after all. The cast, though successful as evidenced by the light sent promptly out, didn't seem quite right, and she was about to drop her wand with a massive eyeroll when it connected. Her brown eyes widened slightly as the other queen rose off of the board ─ and all because of her cast and outstretched wand.

Though she and one of her rooks [Bridget] had apparently had the same idea, wanting to disable movement that could put the black team at a disadvantage for connecting spell to target, the opposition had moved quickly, positioning the boy on fire [Johannes] in front of their queen. Karilyna merely shrugged, already racking her brain for the next move. With little time left, the queen having a human shield wasn't exactly a huge issue. They could deal with this.

So, this was bad. Even the relatively persistent and optimistic Alexei had to admit that. The boy in front of him had been levitated, which had resulted in Alexei being hit for the first time in the game. He didn't think he remotely liked it as he began to float. Still, the game had to be nearing the end, so he steeled himself for a shocking comeback.

Long story short, I survived
