What is a hero? A hero is someone who achieves more than most do at a normal level or pace. A hero proves their worth by exceeding expectations. They are not those corny superheroes- like Superman- who by the way, is not perfect in every way. Then again, no one is perfect- but Superman’s weakness is Kryptonite. Our weakness is simply just what others think of us- and death.

Judging others lead us to the thought process of beng judged personally. You are your own worst critic. You are your own hero. You make yourself a hero by proving your worth to whoever relies on you. For instance- I, last semester, in my Junior Year- have started to perform a high amount of dedication to theater- where I have earned the scarce award that the theater teacher gives out to those who earned it- and only one person from both semesters altogether (meaning one) win those awards- and it symbolizes your faith- your efforts- and the trust you have instilled in others.

I have seen myself down in the dumps occasionally, well, often, and I don’t see the light of day sometimes- so I immerse myself in a fantasy roleplaying world- and once I exit the false world- I see myself in a newer perspective- happier- joyful- and want to actually hang out with people- to do things with people.

So again, a hero is someone who exceeds the expectations of normal people in society. If I had to put myself in my hero’s shoes- I might have the courage to literally belt out and sing to people. Freddie Mercury is my hero- someone I look up to- even if he’s dead for what’s now- 29 years. Freddie has been bullied a lot for the way his mouth was, when he was growing up- and when he joined Smiles, with my favorite guitarist- Brian May- he made them famous- started a new band named Queen.

Brian and Freddie were the closest friends- as well as Roger Taylor. When Freddie made it big- and his agent notified him of a solo career that he could have and temporarily decided to leave the group to perform several songs- several were hits- then when he decided that he had enough of not having friends to work on songs with- he attempted to join Queen again- and Roger wasn’t delighted about that- considering Freddie left the band- but Brian was willing to let him back. After a bit- they made up.

They had enough trust in each other, that shortly before the Live Aid concert of 1985, a worldwide rock concert organized to raise money for the relief of famine-stricken Africans. (There was another Live Aid in Pennsylvania where Kenny Loggins performed Footloose) Freddie revealed to Brian and Roger- that he had AIDs- and his friends supported him throughout all of his journey- until his death- helping to join in charities that need the assistance- that need the fight- for human beings deserve to live their own lives and be well fed and nourished- as well as clothed.

Then Freddie died in 1991, and his friends got people together to perform a tribute concert- full of rock and pop-rock singers for Freddie Mercury the year after. The fact that Freddie won the hearts of many and did things not for illwill but for making the world a better place, make me happy, and happy to acknowledge that he is a hero.

It doesn’t matter what he looks like- or where he came from- but rather the morals he has- the positivity he spreads- the joy he ignites in others. When we hear Bohemian Rhapsody- most people love it- mainly because it’s one of the iconic songs of Queen- and has the lead vocals of Freddie.

So again- a hero isn’t who is super strong- or super thin- like Superman- or generally just in it for ill purposes mentally- but someone who has the morals to inspire others- to encourage others- to make them happy. They are someone who proves they deserve the title of a hero.
