Noah Jupe wrote: 21 Jul 2024, 15:14 Hey friends.

Sooo you know those spells we gain via "graduating" to the next year? Well, in the duelling spell list, they're marked as the previous year. I have two suggestions regarding this because otherwise people won't have them until the next year and it makes sense for you to tie them with the proper year that you gain them.

1. Put them into an existing homework or homework that is not written already (but seeing as just about every homework has been written, putting them into an existing lesson works.). This ties them to first year (Diffindo, Spongify, Pack, and Rictusempra), and second year (Alarte Ascendare, Descendo)

2. You could just move them into the next year instead of saying that they're "first year" spells when you don't get them during your first year, you could say they're "second year" spells and they gain it automatically for the next year.

This suggestion was made because a question was prompted in hogwarts-help xxxx

I feel it is logical to do either of those because (1) none of the other years [3-7] have that and (2) if its not something for a player to obtain via homework, why is it listed as something you can use of that year?
As a prefect, the homework is completely out of my power, but moving them in the list would in fact make a difference when it comes to prodigal learner. Right now, these are spells learnt upon graduation (so by the end of first year if you want to put it that way), moving them in the list would make them spells that can be acquired early by those who pick the ability.

Can't give you an update or even tell you if it will be changed, because priority lies elsewhere at the moment. I believe this hasn't been discussed anywhere yet.

I know these will probably require some coding, so I don't really expect either of these suggestions to be added, but it would be great if we could get some kind of indicator to show whether or not we own a item already (and if so, how many) while we're in the stores. Yes, we can always double check in our trunks, but that's kind of a hassle especially when shopping for potion ingredients.

In addition to that, a "are you sure you want to sell these items" (or something of the like) message when selling items from your trunk, would be immensely helpful too.

Before me, you rightly tremble. But, fear is not what you owe me. You owe me awe....

Since we can get doubles of every flavor beans and theirs already a trading system for chocolate frog cards I think it would be cool if there could be a trading system for every flavor beans too!

It would also give a way for first/second years that haven’t gotten the fake permission slip to trade while they can’t get chocolate frogs yet

Hey to both of you :) Since these are both coding suggestions, I'd advise you to repost these suggestions in this thread here: viewtopic.php?t=15378 It's where Zach would check for coding suggestions. This thread is more for forum suggestions that can be implemented without needing access to the codebase!

I've added a line to the beginning post of this thread for future reference!

Totally forgot about that thread, thank you for the reminder! 😂 I'll go ahead and forward my idea to that one. Also, thank you for adding the little clarification on the beginning post in this thread!

Hopefully this doesn't seem stupid, but I thought of an idea. Currently H.io is a bit too normal, I was wondering if official (not mandatory, you can still choose to simulate a normal Hogwarts student) big dramatic event could happen every once in a while, such as the reappearance of a dark lord, a danger of dimensions colliding, a secret dark wizard in the school who is endangering everyone, etc.

For every complex problem, there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong.

This is not a stupid idea at all.

I would invite you to check out some of the dramatic events that have occurred in recent history, notably:

Main Story Index

Faeritale Endings

Magical Masquerade

Red Moon Red Knife (You'll have to ask some Slytherin kid to recount the tale, if you don't have access.)

Pyre

Also, anything with the name "Athanatos".

These are just a few of the rather dramatic events that have occurred or are occurring at Hogwarts. One reason why we don't see a huge overarching narrative is quite simply that it would require the full time effort of multiple people to a) conceive & write; b) manage and c) moderate. Just ask any of our ball planners how much work it takes just to run a small event like a ball! There are other reasons such as player engagement, burn-out, time commitments and the like.

Your best bet is to remain engaged with the community, do your research into the past history, and keep your eyes open for drama as it's unfolding! And keep in mind that there aren't really any rules saying you can't come up with your own drama! You have the setting and the tools! You may not end up being the next dark lord, but there's no reason you can't participate in the drama!

Hi Yougle,

Just to add on to what Prof. Starwise said, I would suggest that you engross yourself with the existing narratives of the site and the rules of the index team. From there you can either find out how you can spot the goings on before they happen, or plan a narrative story of your own with a group of likeminded individuals, so long as it is approved beforehand. This is how I am approaching things and it is so far turning out to be a very rewarding way of getting to write fun things.

There are some dramatic events going on every now and then right now actually. You just have to be active on the site, participate in as many opens and other things you can find and keep an eye out! The best kind of dramatic fun is usually found during summer camp or one of the balls Hogwarts holds. Those are the times usually when dramatic events start up! The current iNPC arrival thread also has dramatic stuff going on which is really fun. So keep an eye out for that next time the iNPC students arrive too! <3 Plus like the others said above, you can also plan out some fun things with other students and/or teachers too.
