2021, Stage 1 Ravenclaw vs Gryffindor: Match 4

The tension was getting to him, creeping under that gloss of propriety and spreading like ink in water. Shockingly, Pericles was losing patience. Maybe he was taking a page from his partner's book, catching a spark from Tom's fiery energy. Whatever the source, when his spell was evaded and enemy healed, the Ravenclaw wore a small scowl. It smoothed away quickly enough, quelled by the rationality that he'd have done the same in her shoes. Yet impatience had begun to bloom beneath that calm countenance, driving him to relentlessness, the desire for an excellent duel outbidding his usual empathetic restraint. The spell which came hurtling from the side was dodged as he crouched low, letting it whizz by overhead. Peri didn't bother to dust himself down before raising his wand once more.

It was becoming increasingly more difficult for Katrina to catch her breath. She took the first opportunity once her wand was back in her hand to gain some respite. The pleasant tingling filled her as her healing spell undid a bit of the damage she’d taken thus far. She heard the grumbling from the opposing team but she decided to ignore them for now.

The Ravenclaw boys, despite the slight setback they had experienced in the previous round, were not ready to give up yet. While Katrina seemed hesitant on what to do next, Pericles and Thomas both had their ideas clear.

Pericles decided to continue casting Ventus, and while previously Katrina had managed to avoid the spell, this time she wasn't that lucky; still, the spell only slightly hit her, the wind was not as strong as it should have been, and it will make Katrina's movements slightly more difficult in the next round.Thomas' eyes landed on Katrina, and his well executed Tarantallegra flew across the platform and easily hit the girl, almost as if she had run into the spell; immediately her feet would start moving, dancing along a rhythm that appeared similar to tiptap.

It seemed like Ravenclaw had managed to regain the upper hand on the duel, but nothing was fixed yet.

Spectator Thread

Simply put, the tenacious boy was growing bored of this entire endeavor. His choice of spell was one that sought to put something of a smile on his face, and watching Katrina dance accomplished just that. Happily, Thomas recalled the Chess Combat event all those years ago, watching Mars make their best attempt at fine ballet while under the influence of the same spell. There was nothing like making an opponent seem like a fool, in his eyes, it sated his need for victory momentarily and brightened his mood.

He hummed a little to whatever beat Katrina seemed to be dancing to, imagining some song to go along with the choreography.

As much as Pericles was keen on the concept of fighting a match to the bitter end, something didn't set right with him about duelling someone who didn't fight back. Unease settled in his stomach as he raised his wand to Katrina again, her lack of retaliation causing only a second's stall before he barked Ventus. A narrow hit, hardly a hit at all, but still a strike (from what looked to be his favorite spell). An eyebrow quirked at his humming partner, then the aspen wand was readied once more.

Katrina was still out of breath and missed the opportunity to retaliate once more. Inwardly chastising herself, Katrina raised her wand too late. A heavy wind slammed into her, causing her breath to be momentarily knocked out. Immediately after she begun dancing a stupid little dance. This was exactly the opposite of what she wanted to be happening…

This round was particularly calm, as nothing major happened; the situation was still favouring Pericles and Thomas, even though Katrina had a good share of luck.

While the girl had decided to cast Incendio Duo towards Thomas, the spell, unfortunately for Katrina, did not hit him, as Thomas easily dodged out of the way of the flames. However, the Ravenclaws' luck would end there.

Both Pericles and Thomas tried casting Flipendo towards Katrina, hoping to bring the duel to a closer end, but their aim was not the best, and at the same time Katrina was more than determined not to be hit, which resulted in none of the spells to land. The situation was not decided yet, and anything could still happen.

Spectator Thread

This entire scenario was enough to drive someone mad. Thomas himself was starting to notice his composure eroding, frustration simmering and growing more magnified with every missed spell. He was no stranger to the sensation of being overwhelmed, his outbursts and meltdowns once an every day sort of past time, and he recognized the feeling once again. It wasn’t worry or anxiety that pressed heavily on his chest, but white hot anger that made his face flush and closed his throat—breathing evenly was hard all the same as a panic.

Still, Tom didn’t say a word. He simply wanted this duel to be done.

While Tom burned hot in aggravation, Pericles was frigid, his expression flinty and cold. Twin forces of Flipendo barreled across the piste. Both were evaded, though this elicited no reaction from the Ravenclaw save the slightest squint. He could keep up this rhythmic barrage no matter how long it took- though, it had begun to feel as if they were battling for months instead of minutes. @Katrina Walker had proven herself to be a tenacious opponent.

After another bout of spells that resulted in exactly zero hitting their mark, Katrina felt the exhaustion taking its toll. The constant string of insults from Thomas had at last faded and in the silence Katrina could hear her tired breaths. She was tired. But there was still time to win this.
