FAQ — Questions
Hi, how do stats work? Like how do you know what they are, or do you just choose them yourself? Also, how do your stats play into duels and deciding what spells work and whatnot?

Hey there Jess!
So, here is a guide to stats written by the Headmaster himself. Hope this helps!

@Nell Zoldak is right. You can find the guidelines in the link she provided.
And about your question whether the player should choose the stats, the answer is yes. You decide in which areas your character has more strength and in which areas he/she is weaker.
Regarding how the stats count for duels, please find the info here: https://www.hogwarts.io/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=12038
And for the spells used in duels: https://www.hogwarts.io/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=11802
But if by "duels" you mean the general fighting in RPs, I think all spells your character has learnt can be used. Just make sure that you know the intended effect of each spell; for example whether your character wants to cast a fire-making spell or if she wants to make the enemy unable to see for several minutes.

As an addendum to everything they have said. We are a community of consent. Unless your player has entered a moderated situation (that being consent to put things out of your control), you cannot be forced to fight nor can someone force you with our pvp options. This being an important distinction from other communities where you can enter threads, prevent a user from leaving and force them to fight or force other things onto them,
The duel system is not fully released yet, but will likely be out soon.
Spells are used in adventures.
There is something about ambition, how it not only propels you but also defines you.

How does 'rolling' work? I've seen the term 'd20 roll' used a lot recently, but have no idea what it means.
Thanks
Also, are iNPCs allowed to have pets, or not? I'm already developing my Beauxbatons iNPC lol

@Lucia Fox Rolling is a complicated process but once you get the hang of it it is quite easy. It is for modded events. Example; the blossom ball or a house event. Without rolling anything could happen and students could make very bad decisions.
If someone does melee attacks they will do a d20 for the accuracy. The person being attacked would be doing a d20 for evasion. If the accuracy roll is higher than the evasion they would do a roll for their Strength check to know how much damage is dealt.
For rolls for magic it is about wisdom. Obscruo has a Wisdom Check of 10. If your wisdom is 10 or over you have done it successfully however if your wisdom is under that you need to roll for it to work. My wisdom is 7 so I would need to roll for it.
Example;
D10+7 = 3+7 = 10
This would be a fail. You need to have either a 4 or higher rolled to cast successfully.
This is so brief and doesn't cover everything. I can send you an owl that has more detailed explanation
Hope this helped a little bit with your understanding. There are lots of youtube videos out there that deals with this as it is similar to DnD

@Lizzie Verdine
Thanks!
It'd be great if you could send me an owl, thank you - but if you don't have enough time it's fine.
So, just to clarify, all spells have a wisdom check? If so, where do you find the wisdom check for each spell?

FAQ — Questions
@Lucia Fox I will send an owl straight after this
I only know the WDC [wisdom check] for the dueling spells which can be found here. For the ones that don't have wisdom check I do not know that. I think they are rolled for and if it's higher than your wisdom is works.

FAQ — Questions
Hi there!
So, a little while ago I owled Elaine Pendrast and Béatrice Lydursdattir regarding a backstory change. These owls included all the changes I wanted to make. Both owls have been seen/read, but I have not received a response.
Then, I started to wonder if there was anything else i needed to do in order to complete a backstory change. So, is there?
Thanks in advance!![]()
