Matthias is a hopeless romantic. He believes that there is a girl out there solely for him and shes going to be the love of his life. He believes in fate and that something better is going to happen when something doesn't work out. Like for example, when Matthias will meet willow, the reason he's going alone is because he's going to be rejected three times. Hell give up with the thought of there's someone special that I'm supposed to meet"
His mother is like a goddess to him. He thought/thinks she was the most perfect woman ever. As a young boy before she died, he would constantly find something to give to her to show his love. He tried everything he could to avoid angering her or upsetting her. She also was the one person who truly understood him and what he needed or felt. Once she died something in him felt as if it was missing. When he meets willow, she somehow filled in that emptiness.
Deep down he wants someone to truly love him and know him. Not just a girl who looks good on his arm or the other way around. He wants a family and love and to care for someone.
