Professor of Transfiguration

Welcome, @Makaio Kāne, our newest Professor of Transfiguration. Better known as Dennis Tumberton, Ravenclaw Prefect. One of our more grueling subjects, please extend Dennis your condolences.

This does mean that we will be considering our next Ravenclaw Prefect in the near future.

Year 1-7 Spells have been placed in the shop. The staff shops for dissemination of spells from classes is now a work in progress. Over the next few days you will note the addition of prerequisites to some spells because of their dramatic impact on balance, so it is recommended to hold-off on making spell purchases for a few more days. Purchases made on an in-progress system are done at your own risk. As for bounties, I am offering a limited time opportunity for members to identify typos in the new spell shop items in this thread. If actual typos are identified (first come, first serve) in the new spell items we have created, I will make the edit to the spell and reward the member that identified the error with a bounty. Again, this is first come-first serve, so if three people find the same error, it is the first person that posts the error that will be rewarded. Finally, this is for actual errors, not for preferences.

Transfiggy Awwwnouncement

Hello! Professor Kāne here to answer everyone’s burning questions about Transfiguration. I will be rolling out the new homework this week starting with Years 1-3 and working my way through the rest. What you can expect is what you’ve seen so far from some of the other professors.

In related news, if you are working on the current homework, fear not! You will still be able to submit your work up to May 31st!

Potions Changes

Potions will no longer be a consumable item, meaning they will no longer be 'used up' if used in an event. Potions will also be automatically granted upon the completion of the lesson. Not just the knowledge of brewing the potion, but the ownership of the actual potion item itself. There will also be a consideration of inventory in terms of potions and other items. Finally, Potions will be obtained either by purchase or by class.

Why

• Potions are underutilized as a system.
• Potions are very expensive.
• Potions are lost with use, discouraging utilization.
• We wish to align with spells, how they are acquired and utilized.

Inventory

As much as we would love to imagine a bandolier of potion bottles that every player carries with them at all times, this is not reasonable. During conventional roleplay, inventory management would not be necessary but inventories may be relevant for moderated scenarios.

What does this mean for the brewing system?

The brewing system will be dismantled as we presently know it, however we intend to repurpose this for errands that can grant users potions as an alternative reward.

I spent a ton of money on my potions using the brewing system!

Yes, we know. There is a lot of math involved, but we plan to refund you. You would obviously continue to own the potion(s) you have brewed which you can trade or sell (so consider it a net profit) because we are not asking for the potion to be returned to us.

How will Potion errands work?

This involves some changes to the shop and to existing systems and is considered a high effort, low priority project at this time. Broadly speaking, there will be a reduction to the cost of components as well as an equitable system for members to participate in these errands. We also plan to offer something similar for spells, but again this is a system that will not be in active use for some months.

How will this transition look?

1. Potion brewing will close May 22, this is not immediate in case a member has a partially completed app they wish to complete and submit.
2. We will start converting trunks after May 22 at the earliest.
3. An activity check will be completed for all members prior to trunk conversion. Members need to have posted anywhere on site to maintain "active" status. This will be done after the Potion Shop is made.
4. Trunks will be updated for active members.

How will this effect my Components Ability?

There will be significant changes to this ability as well as an opportunity for a refund if you prefer a different ability. The details on these ability changes would be coming up in a few days as well as a deadline for swapping out if you choose to swap out or use the ability as it presently is.

Potions Bounty

Some of you will notice a new shop has been added to the Potions Classroom that sells potions. These potions are a part of the new potions system. There may be some minor shifts in cost as well as prerequisites. So any purchases you make at this moment are at your own risk.

I am issuing a Bounty on this new potions shop much like I had on the spells shops. If you find an error, I will render you a bounty on your find until May 22.

Gryffindor Prefect

@Meiyu Xiang has been selected as our next Gryffindor Prefect, and we couldn’t be more excited. A familiar face in our Discord, Meiyu is known for her friendly presence, active engagement, and genuine enthusiasm for the community.

What truly set her apart was her outstanding contribution to the Spring Ball Team, where her dedication, consistency, and strong work ethic made a lasting impression.

We’re thrilled to welcome Meiyu to the team and can’t wait to see the energy and ideas she brings to both Gryffindor House and the broader site.

Index Clearing

Tomorrow we will be performing an Index Clearing in anticipation of graduation as well as the shop-trunk transition project. Index Clearing is essentially an activity check, as long as a member has posted on site at least one time in the last 6 months, this can even be forum games, they will be considered ACTIVE in the community. Members that are not considered to be active will be removed from Index. To return to Index they will need to reactivate their character with Index Link.

Remember, Index registration is required to:

‣ graduate to the next school year
‣ participate in events, balls, or summer camp
‣ is what we will be using to transition trunks to inventories

After the Index clearing is complete, we will start the inventory transition. Please make sure your trunks are up to date. This does not include any purchases you might have made in potions or spells (despite me telling you not to).

Bounties for Shop Errors Have Closed

Thank you everyone that has contributed to the shop errors bounties. Bounties should have been already handed out. While the bounty has closed for this, if you notice any translation errors, typos or glitches, we encourage you to report them so that we can keep the site running smooth.

There will likely be other bounty opportunities in the near future, so if you missed out on this one, there will be other opportunities.

Index Clearing

Index Clearing is underway. Again, this is the process where we verify the activity status of members. If a member has not posted on site in at least 6 months, then they would be removed from Index. The post can be anywhere on the forum including forum games. Players are able to get re-registered with Index by applying in this thread.

Being registered with Index is required to:

• graduate to the next school year,
• participate in events, balls, or summer camp,
• is what we will be using to transition trunks to inventories

Potion Brewing System Closure – Inventory Transition Begins

As of today, May 23, the Potion Brewing System has officially closed in preparation for our upcoming Trunk-to-Inventory Transition Project. This update will introduce an active inventory system, giving members a more streamlined and immersive way to access and use potions.

What This Means:

• Members who have learned a potion through class completion will automatically have that potion added to their inventory in the new system.
• There will be no need to brew or purchase potions you’ve already unlocked through classes.
• When used in a moderated scenario, potions are not consumed or removed from your inventory. You will retain them for future use.

Additional Notes:

• Inventory management may include limits on the number of potion doses that can be carried into a moderated thread or event.
• More details on these limits and inventory features will be shared soon.
