Oh, shoot.
It's hard to describe. The feeling of excitement and fear. No, fear mostly, 90% at a minimum. She really shouldn't be feeling this way. She really, really shouldn't. She stood up straighter, and made her expression more faint.
"SLYTHERIN! GRYFFINDOR! HUFFLEPUFF! RAVENCLAW!"
Those words echoed in her head. Slytherin as in Slytherin'? An abbreviation of the verb Slithering? It would make sense. Hufflepuff? Gryffindor? Those she couldn't relate animals or actions to. Ravenclaw? As in a Raven's claw? Okay, that was the second one that made, sense. The rest are probably just gibberish that sounds like a real word, though it isn't.
[/font]"Reeser, Lily!"
Oh, the joy.
She stood up straight and walked formally to the hat and sat down on the stool with the ancient piece of cloth on her head. She literally jumped,
"Wow! Lily it is right? You are surely an overthinker! This will be very hard for me! I would put you into--oh, you are a muggle-born aren't you? I won't give spoilers then..."
She sighed and rolled her eyes,
"Ambitious and smart. Oh, an observer too! Accuracy is very good, well fit for Gryffindor. You are also very, very kind. Great for Hufflepuff. Ahhh, no. You will acheive your best in....,"
She waited, impatiently,
"RAVENCLAW!"

Still tired from the trip, most of which Aideen Collingwood had spent asleep, she hid a yawn with a sleeve-covered hand. The hallways reminded her of her own home, and she might get comfortable just strolling down, looking at all the moving art works one day. Just like her father before her. However, right now it was nothing close to comfortable for Aideen. Growing up in a magical house, she wasn’t nearly as surprised by some of the sights, as she noticed from her peers. It was the amount of people, that she had the most problems with. Ending up just staring at her the floor, until the doors to the Great Hall finally opened. Even Aideen had to admit this place was impressive, with the tall ceiling and seemingly endless tables and food. Just so much food. She greeted a tall man in armor as she walked in and nodded politely, before finding a place with the others, switching between looking at everyone’s amazement and the floor.
“Aideen Collingwood!”
Her name was some of the first and she was grateful to be allowed to sit down. The only issue was that the chair was in the front of the room and everyone was looking her way. She decided to pretend they weren’t there and hurried over to the chair. Whatever the hat was mumbling, Aideen was not paying attention. All she could hear was her parents telling her stories about this amazing castle, in the middle of nowhere. It sounded almost like another fairy tale, too good to be true. She had never seen so many magical people in one place before, not even her mother’s annual reunions would get close to this. Her mother was smart and clever, a true Ravenclaw. Although she shared her mother’s passion, her personality was more like her father’s. Calm, quiet, endless patience, Hufflepuff was definitely where she belonged. Her passion for working with animals should only solidify-
“Gryffindor!”
It took a beat before Aideen registered what just happened and she felt her feet move her to the table clad in red and yellow. The clapping and patting from her new house mate felt so distance and she didn’t move, once seated. Her toes and fingers were numb, and she was too nauseous to even think about touching any of the food. She hadn’t finished her first evening at the school yet and her new life in her fantasy castle was already crumbling. The remaining time, she just sat on the bench and thought about what to tell her parents. Obviously, they would be proud of her for just being there and she could just hear her mother go on about how this was probably best for her. That she had to make her time here her own. Create stories that she could one day tell her own children. At this point, all Aideen wanted was to go back home.

He was feeling alone, even when surrounded by so many people.
Blaise walked with the herd of students towards the great hall. A vast, imposing room filled with lit candles floating around, shrouding the space with a warm, comfortable light.
This world was foreign to him.
Although the boy had witnessed magic growing up, it was very subtle, especially compared to what he had already seen on the train, where some of the kids performed cute and colorful magic. The scale of things getting even more grandiose the closer he got to the castle.
Now inside, with numerous other students, he felt very out of place.
The place was beautiful and enchanting. Blaise couldn't help but feel a sense of wonder, despite the disdain he garnered towards magic over the years.
Hogwarts is the opportunity to mend his mistrust in magic.
Being a first-year and not having much prior experience with or knowledge of magic, he knew that here, he was already at a disadvantage. He felt a creeping sense of helplessness climbing up his spine. He knew he had to go forward as hard as possible. To kick and punch and grapple his way up in this magical school, or else his head might not come up on top from even his first day, and this wasn't an option he was willing to consider.
After the last of the students entered the great hall, the doors closed shut with a resonating thud, making several first years jump in their seats.
Blaise looked back at the now-closed entrance, and when he looked back towards what he understood to be the teacher's table, he saw a figure walking towards the front of it. A bearded, scar-ridden man, who looked both wise and experienced beyond his years(although Blaise would not be able to guess his age).
The imposing figure drew out his wand, positioning its tip to his throat, and started to speak, his voice rumbling across the hall by a voice amplifying charm.
After the man, who presented himself to be the headmaster, started to talk about the sorting hat, he was cut by a voice, a voice coming FROM the hat!
Blaise could hear a few students bursting into laughter, while others just stared, enamored and stunned. He was quite shocked, his eyes open wide.
Eventually, the ceremony started, and one by one, students got sorted.
Blaise heard of the Hogwarts houses second-hand, bits and pieces from conversations his sister had with his mother.
He knew that the Linwood family had been sorted into Slytherin by the hat for generations. He didn't know what that meant, but he assumed that's what would happen to him. And just as expected, his sister got sorted almost immediately into Slytherin, giving her brother a quick condescending look as she walked towards the table decorated with her house's colors and emblem. Marina was being greeted cheerfully by several students she had previously met on the Hogwarts Express.
Blaise gave her a disgruntled look.
'That explains the verse about Slytherin. SHE would fit right in.' He thought.
As Blaise waited for his turn to go through the sorting, he thought about the line regarding Slytherin house in the hat's song:
"Those cunning folks use any means.
To achieve their ends."
'That hardly sounds like a good thing.' The boy thought to himself.
He couldn't imagine how his mother would get sorted into a house holding these values.
After what seemed like forever, the headmaster's voice echoed.
He felt his heart skipping a beat and the hairs on his arms standing. Blaise swallowed and stood up stiffly, and then started towards the stool under the headmaster's wise - yet somewhat judging- gaze."Blaise Mallory!"
The moment the hat touched Blaise's hair, a hoarse voice rumbled.
"ANOTHER LINWOOD!"
The volume of the voice made Blaise's shoulders stiffen as he abruptly caught his breath.
"It-... It's Mallory."Blaise mumbled.
"Ha!" The hat cackled.
"Oh yes, it's Mallory NOW, but your family goes way back... I remember you lot. All Slytherins, each one of you in every generation."
The hat stalled for a moment.
"But what about young Blaise? What am I going to do with you?"
The tall boy felt very self-aware at that moment.
'Oh, of course, something's wrong with me.' The boy couldn't hold his thoughts.
"You think something is wrong with you?!" The hat proclaimed loudly, and Blaise failed to hide his embarrassment, his eyes dropping to the floor.
"I would no doubt expect to sort you the same way as your sister and all of the other Linwoods before her, but indeed your mind presents a particular dilemma that most of your relatives didn't.
Yes, indeed, there is strong ambition within you, no doubt, and a desire to prove yourself. And yet, I find myself deliberating another option."
Blaise's senses were tingling; he started to anticipate the hat's decision. Although he was scared, a small rush of adrenaline ran through his body.
"A firm preparedness to work hard for your goals, and a curious longing to feel accepted and loved. I think I've made my decision." The hat ruled, and Blaise stopped breathing.
Blaise's heart sank to his feet. He felt the old hat's weight lifting away, and yet it was as if a huge boulder just materialized on his shoulders. He couldn't help but take a look at his sister, who seemed vexed by what she had just witnessed."Hufflepuff!"
The young boy gave the headmaster a quick, pleading look before quietly walking to the Hufflepuff table, looking defeated.
Without warning, as if nothing was different or wrong at all, Blaise was greeted by shouts of cheering and encouragement from the Hufflepuff students.
For the first time today, Blaise couldn't help but let a subtle smile form on the side of his mouth.

Leila nervously waited in turn. Oh, if she wasn’t in Ravenclaw, her family would be so angry! They would probably send an owl, a Howler, to her. Oh, the wait! Oh, the nervousness traveling throughout her body! She watched as a brown-haired girl walked up, then waited herself in line. Ravenclaw, please!
Leila clenched her fists and took deep breaths. She would get in Ravenclaw. She would. Of course. She had to. When her name was called, she bit her lip and sat on the stool. She was so worried, she didn’t catch anything the Sorting Hat said- the horror! Then, she heard a loud noise.
RAVENCLAW!!!
She sighed and smiled as the blue-cladded table cheered for her. ‘Well, I do look good in blue and silver,’ she thought excitedly. She wasn’t going to get a Howler after all! Then, she only just realized the beauty of the Great Hall. Candles floated so prettily, and the ceiling! Oh, the ceiling! She loved it so much, already Hogwarts. Who knew she would end up here, of all places?
Leila nearly cried as she walked towards the Ravenclaw table, smiling as her sister patted her on the back. She loved Hogwarts already, it was her home. She patted down her hair, so elated that she missed everyone else’s’ sorting. She smiled, the butterflies in her stomach going away. ‘I love this place.’

Krystal stared in awe around the massive hall. The four tables were lined with plates and silverware, ready for the food. Krystal couldn't wait to start eating, but the Sorting would take a while. There were hundreds of students. She would also be one of the last called.
The playful arguments between her parents started running through her head. Her mother was a Ravenclaw, and her father a Hufflepuff. Krystal herself tended to show traits from both her parents houses, so neither of them knew where she would be placed.
The nervous sensation in her stomach grew as she waited. She was only semi-aware of other students being called up to have the hat placed on their heads. Krystal was more focused on the house she would be placed in. What if it wasn't Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw? What if she was a Slytherin, or a Gryffindor? Would her parents be disappointed?
Krystal had always though that no one could be placed perfectly. No one could exhibit exclusively Ravenclaw traits, or only Gryffindor traits. It was impossible. Everyone was unique, made up of a different combination of all the houses. You just got placed into the one you fit best in. Like everyone, she had traits from all of them.
"White, Krystal!" the Headmaster called.
Krystal walked with shaking legs to the stool. The Sorting Hat was placed on her head. Its voice whispered in her ear.
Interesting... There's bravery and courage. But there is also wisdom and loyalty.
To her surprise, Krystal found the hats voice comforting. Instead of becoming more nervous like she thought she would, she actually calmed down. The hat continued-
Yes, yes, I think you'd be best as a...
GRYFFINDOR!!
And that was it. She walked to the Gryffindor table and sat down, her worries melting away. When it was finally time to eat, Krystal stuffed herself with the delicious food. But all she could really think of for the rest of the night was that one word.
Gryffindor.

Looking around her, it seemed her mother hadn't lied. Hogwarts was indeed a special place. After all, the scene before her eyes clearly wasn't something just anyone could boast about ever witnessing. Especially, Jasmine couldn't help but be amazed, and intrigued, at the stars-filled roof. How could the candles even stay up? Was it a spell that, once cast, stayed potent without the need of additional magical energy? Or was there someone behind it? Or was it the castle itself that provided the energy needed? She'd have to re-read Hogwarts, A History in case it was information she missed or forgot about.
Though her gaze resolutely stayed upwards, trying to analyze every detail of the astounding roof, Jasmine still paid some attention to the happenings around her. It seemed the Sorting was going to take place with the help of a... hat? Her eyes left the roof to observe the peculiar being. Her mother didn't tell her anything about a talking hat, probably trying to keep the mystery surrounding the Sorting Ceremony intact. Of course, she read about it in Hogwarts, A History so the secret wasn't kept for long, but it was still interesting to look at it with her own eyes. So this hat really was intelligent... and didn't sing very well it seemed. How did it feel to have it look into her mind? She couldn't help but feel excited at the thought of it.
Slytherin, Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff... Well, it was pretty obvious where the name Slytherin came from. When it came to Gryffindor, she had good enough french to know that "d'or" was golden. So basically a golden griffin. It made sense. Though a griffin had the head and wings of an eagle and the body of a lion, the creature was enough part lion for her to allow it. The others, however, were the ones she just couldn't understand. Huffle and puff? What was this house's deal with breathing? And Ravenclaw's animal was obviously an eagle, so why was it named after the claw of a raven? Were they supposed to believe all birds were equal? She might as well call it Pigeonclaw then. Well, she probably would if her mother wasn't a proud alumnus of Ravenclaw... And after all, she hadn't been sorted yet so she could very well end up in Pige-... Ravenclaw herself.
She wouldn't mind being sorted into it, actually. If she thought about it, she'd probably end up in either Ravenclaw or Slytherin. Gryffindor wouldn't be too shocking either, but she didn't really expect it. When it came to... Hufflepuffle?... Hufflepuddle? Hum... Oh- Hufflepuff! The breathing house, yeah. Well... if there was a possibility, its probability shouldn't be very high. Jasmine didn't think of herself as traitorous, but she definitely could agree that she was a bit selfish. Others weren't necessarily at the forefront of her mind, and nor patience nor modesty were qualities that could be used to describe her. Therefore, she didn't think about it much.
Her gaze focused on the stool where the hat was placed. Some students looked pretty nervous upon being called, while others seemed confident enough. Likewise, the hat didn't take an equal amount of time on everyone. A few had their house called after barely seconds, while some had to stay on the stool quite a bit longer before joining their table. So some were harder to place than others... It made her curious about the category of people she'd fall into.
Sure enough, her name was soon called. Thank God her last name started with a C or she might have been bored to death waiting for her turn. She took light, airy steps towards the stool and flashed a small smile at the Headmaster before sitting. Poor Headmaster would have to go through the whole ceremony. If she had any water at hand, she'd probably offer it to him; it couldn't be good for your throat to repeatedly call so many names... and the list was long, too. She was silently praising his courage when the hat was placed onto her head, and a voice resonated directly in her mind.
What a funny girl... I can sense a bit of mischief... Well well... How cunning and intelligent... Yes... a bright child... very curious... adventurous too... Oh, I can see you are quite an impatient child... Thoughtful yet a bit childish... Jasmine couldn't refute. Indeed, there wasn't a point in living if it wasn't to have a bit of fun. The hat mumbled for quite a long time before saying again. A great student, but I can see it is linked to your pride... Yes, strong pride... You want to prove your worth, keep your head up high... You would do great in several houses... Your mind and thirst for knowledge would be greatly appreciated in Ravenclaw, while your cunningness and ambitions would resonate well in Slytherin... Yes, this house would help you reach your goals... Hearing those two houses made Jasmine open her eyes wide. Were her predictions right? But the hat didn't stop there. A strong determination... And your boldness cannot be overlooked... No challenges could make you back down... Yes, you have the courage to stand up for yourself and what you believe in... Rules don't necessarily bind you... but you're smart about it. Once again, the hat started mumbling, leaving Jasmine to look around her. This process seemed to be quite long in her case. At least, she was seated. Soon, the voice resonated more intelligibly. Yes, I know. You'd be perfect in...
Gryffindor!
The lion table boomed with cries and applause. Jasmine got up, looking in their direction. How interesting... She certainly was a bit surprised, but this house seemed full of energetic and funny people, she definitely wouldn't get bored. Her lips formed into a smile while she took her signature airy steps towards her new family. Yes, this would be a fun year.

Cade Darkbound was pretty exhausted, to say the least. The ride on the Hogwarts express had been longer than he imagined. He'd been sitting for so long he thought his knees would be glued and stuck at a 90-degree angle. He was relieved when the train finally pulled into Hogsmede station. But just as suddenly tense when that girl fell into the black lake. They made it to the castle but most of the other 1st years were soaked and shivering. This wasn't the exact way he pictured arriving at school. But he supposed it would make quite a memory in the years to come.
Cade was happy now that they were inside the toasty great hall. He could almost start to feel his legs again. Looking around the grand chamber, he first noted the vast amount of students staring at the newcomers. He hoped none of them noticed how disheveled he looked at the moment. His hair was soaked and his bangs dripped lake water down his nose. His new school robes were not only creased from the long day's journey but wet and speckled with mud. Looking at his peers he decided he couldn't help it and he wasn't the worst one of the bunch. Directly above the various tables of students were floating candles, hundreds of them bobbing about the air. Cade wondered how on earth the staff got around to lighting them all and if they ever were extinguished.
But before Cade could observe more, the Headmaster of the school gave instructions on the sorting ceremony, but Cade already knew what was about to happen. His father had always recounted the memory of his sorting. His father was a proud Slytherin. One side of Cade hoped to follow his father in that house, but another side of him wondered where else he would fit. Certainly not Gryffindor. He didn't think himself to be in any way daring or courageous. Perhaps Hufflepuff, he could be loyal and trustworthy. Alas, no... he wasn't like that all the time. Ravenclaw was the only other fit. He loved to learn and he thought himself to be creative. Always reading and drawing. Cade would just have to wait and see.
He didn't have to wait long. While he was busy thinking the headmaster had been calling out names.
"Darkbound, Cade?"
A strong chill ran down Cade's spine. He slowly moved forward and immediately all eyes were trained on him. Never before had he attracted this much attention in his life. Don't mess up, he told himself. He squeezed past the other first years quickly and sat on the stool. The sorting hat was placed on his head. He immediately shut his eyes.
Instantaneously, a loud voice seemed to resonate through his very skull. A very sound mind, we have here. Very clever, I see some sparks of ambition from you. Wandering and wondering about every plausible notion you are. Despite his mind reeling over this odd experience, Cade tried to think blank thoughts as if to try and help guide the hat to a quicker answer. Observant and creative too... perhaps I know just where to put you. Yes, yes! That's where you'll be... And just as quickly the hat came to a conclusion.
"RAVENCLAW!"
The word echoed throughout the hall. There was a sudden roar of applause from the table of the Eagle. Cade opened his eyes all the nerves ebbing off of his bones. He didn't remember bouncing off the stool and finding his seat at the Ravenclaw table, he was just relieved he didn't make a fool of himself. A goofy grin spread across his face, his cheeks pink with happiness.

Eva stepped into the school, it looked a lot bigger up close than it had as they rode the boats in. There was a man standing by the entrance of a grand room full of lots of people and noise. That must be the great hall. She thought.
As Eva walked into the Great Hall with the rest of the first years, she nodded to the man at the entrance in greeting. Then entered the Great Hall. It was magnificent. Four long tables full of older students stressed the length of the room. When she and the rest of the first years arrived at the end of the room, Eva noticed the man from earlier standing in front of them. He introduced himself as the headmaster of Hogwarts and began to talk about the houses. Then the sorting has was placed down and the sorting begin.
Eva thought all of the houses sounded cool, but she knew what houses she wanted to be in more than others. Her father was in Ravenclaw and her mother was in Hufflepuff, so being sorted into either of those houses would please her. Eva began to worry though. What if she wasn't put into one of these two houses. Would her parents be upset that she wasn't in the same house as one of them? No. She thought. She knew what her parents thought. They didn't care what house she was in. Eva remembered her mother had told her; "What ever house your sorted into, we will be proud of you." This lifted Eva's spirits a bit, but she was still hoping for Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw when her name was called.
"EVERGOOD, EVA"
She walked up to the hat and stuck it onto her head. She sat there for a moment in silence, then the hat began to talk to her in a soft voice. "I see lots of independence in you, and a thirst to prove yourself. Diligence, yes... and loyalty... The hat stopped talking and Eva sat in silence for a minute. Then the hat began to talk again. I think you will do best in... SLYTHERIN!"
The last word was yelled out so the whole room could hear. There was loud clapping and cheering from the Slytherin table. Slytherin? Eva thought. Why Slytherin? It has lingered in the back of her head that she might be sorted into Slytherin, but she didn't think it would actually happen. Did she even have any family that was in Slytherin? She would have to Owl her parents to find out. Eva stood up of the stool she had sat on for the sorting and walked over to the Slytherin table to find a place to sit. Her thoughts swirling about what had just happened.

Karkat felt clammy in the packed hall. the room itself was surely bigger than anything he'd ever seen. if he could actually see the bulk of it on account of there's enough scrambling youth in here to kill a camp counsellor. it still felt completely unreal, he thought his mother was crazy but here he was surrounded by other students who looked as if they'd been preparing for this their whole life. he'd never worn robes before and despite being the same as everyone else in the room he felt sorely out of place, they were just baggy enough to hang from his nimble frame and make him feel strange.
his calamity of thoughts was interrupted by someone singing, nobodies mouth seemed to be moving... it took him a moment to realize that, it was the hat! it couldn't be, that's an inanimate object. right before his very eyes, that hat was singing a jolly tune about the houses. the shock soon faded to neutrality as he waited throughout the long list of names. being a Vantas, his name was at the utmost bottom of the list. so he waited and waited, name after name called into a sorted amount of houses. the hat sat atop the head and scrunched his.."face" for a moment before booming out a name. this went on for practically an hour until it was heard. "Karkat Vantas". the boy nervously stumbled onto the seat and felt the hat slightly weigh down on his head. how did it choose? how did any of this work? how did-
i see a lot in you boy, similar to your kin who once walked these halls, a voice stated, it wasn't quite heard but it was there. although you try to hide it, and put up a front, you have a good heart.youre patient, the type to help a friend in need what was this old thrift store reject talking about? Karkat didn't put up a front! that facade won't help you in the long run, underneath it I see a kind soul whose determined it was silent for a moment before booming out, Hufflepuff! Karkat let his eyes peek open to see a table streaked in yellow with welcoming faces. As he sat down the fellow hufflepuffs gave him pats on the back and warm smiles. His mother said the hat was never wrong, that it'll know things about you that you don't even know about yourself.. intriguing.
his calamity of thoughts was interrupted by someone singing, nobodies mouth seemed to be moving... it took him a moment to realize that, it was the hat! it couldn't be, that's an inanimate object. right before his very eyes, that hat was singing a jolly tune about the houses. the shock soon faded to neutrality as he waited throughout the long list of names. being a Vantas, his name was at the utmost bottom of the list. so he waited and waited, name after name called into a sorted amount of houses. the hat sat atop the head and scrunched his.."face" for a moment before booming out a name. this went on for practically an hour until it was heard.
Nicholas McCowan couldn't tell whether he was feeling an odd sense of melancholy, or a boisterous excitement, the two conflicting emotions seemed to be conducting some kind of synchronised dance within his stomach as he finally stepped into the hall. It was grand to be sure, filled with students and a veritable feast. Yet, the stories that his parents had woven had painted a picture as if something out of a fairy-tale. His awe and wonder had been spent throughout the rest of the day, the train and the boats had lessened the blow of the drastic shift in his reality. It had already become quite real to the boy, he was here, he was at Hogwarts. As such, his eyes did not widen as much as they otherwise would have, despite the scene being by far the grandest he'd ever witnessed. The emotion of wonder had been dancing throughout his mind for so long that he'd become used to it, as if the fantastical was no longer fantastic.
At the end of the day, he was in a school, and as such he found himself moving in step with the other students in the line. His face, it seemed, had betrayed that other feeling that he'd not even considered. He was terribly nervous, of what house he'd be put in, of being away from home for so long, of the whole experience. The presence of the towering headmaster did little to dissuade that nervousness, even if his handshakes and encouragement had done the same to other students. Nicholas had been lost in his mind for quite some time, running over the scenarios of being placed in a house and having to adjust to a new life. It seemed he'd been too quick to write-off his sense of wonder.
The gaggle of first years all seemed to be lost in the same sense of wonder and that odd childish fear of change, and the Ulster boy was no stranger to such. He'd taken to darting his eyes across the entire room, drinking in the sea of colours of the different houses and mentally preparing himself for the ceremony that awaited him. He barely even registered as those around him went up and found themselves sorted to the groups that would form the basis of their identity for the next seven years. After all, he was much more concerned with his own future. There would be plenty of time for learning of his classmates once he knew who he would be spending his time with. Not for the first time his eyes shot towards the table underneath the silver snake emblazoned on emerald.
"Nicholas McCowan!" The headmaster bellowed, and the boy found himself shocked out of his trance. He'd not even realised who had gone before him.
With tepid, nervous steps, the tall lad approached the hat. He sat with such an air of aloofness that it was almost painful to witness. He'd expected grand ceremony, and yet the hat was placed upon his head with neither pomp nor circumstance.
His disappointment seemed to be sensed by the hat itself, and the tattered thing all but chided him, "Not exactly what you were expecting, boy?"
Nicholas bristled, aghast at his own thoughts.
"That would be the ambition upon you," the boy swore he could hear the hat chuckling upon him, "such great ambition you have. You seek greatness do you not? An almost natural Slytherin, and yet... Hmm, it seems its less ambition and more of something else. It's determination, an unbridled drive. I daresay you're ready to dive headfirst into a fire." Nicholas swore he heard the hat chuckling at him again, "I suppose, it's quite fitting..."
"GRYFFINDOR!"
Before he could even register what had happened, the hate had been taken from the boy's head and he as ushered toward the house in red, their applause loud and booming. He blinked a few times as he sat at the end of the table, trying to comprehend what had occurred. His father had been a Gryffindor, that much was true, but he'd never taken much after the old man. For the first time that day, the awe at the grandeur had truly faded, and been replaced by legitimate confusion.
Nicholas McCowan was a lion.
